How Similar is War Gods to Primal Rage?

Hi everyone I'm Jack Red, I grew up with several fighting games. Among them were Primal Rage on Sega Genesis. Which was ported by the same team who ported the first Mortal Kombat games as well as Batman Forever to several consoles. Oh the horror that is Batman Forever still one of the worst controls I ever experienced in a video game.

Later in my child hood, I gotten War Gods on Nintendo 64. Oddly from the same company responsible for Mortal Kombat series. Maybe this is just me but War Gods comes off in a way ripping off Primal Rage. This is purely my own opinion but I felt some people might've at least once thought that.

Primal Rage originally hit the arcades in 1994 while War Gods came two years later. It doesn't help a few Midway compilations had Primal Rage. In both games, you play as gods that ultimately wants to be the supreme god. Obviously, how they went about this concept is vastly different. In Primal Rage, most of the roster was dinosaurs & two giant apes.

War Gods actually given us demi gods to real gods in comparison. Also you do get finishers that kill your opponent. Which majority of those are better in Primal Rage. War Gods didn't even come close to the amount of ports Primal Rage got. Let's be honest, Raiden & a few gods were playable in Mortal Kombat series.

In a way since Raiden was playable in Mortal Kombat 1, both of these are ripping off that concept. War Gods does have two real bosses while Primal Rage forces you to face every character in one match. Yes you can play as those boss characters but it is differently among the ports. I can only directly judge the N64 version.

War Gods was created to better Mortal Kombat 4's chances with the new 3D animation style. Sadly MK4 was the last arcade release in that franchise. It is kinda weird but you let the game run sometimes you will see bios in War Gods. But the endings of Primal Rage do reveal the origin to each character.

Eventually a different giant monster fighting game that isn't Godzilla related called War of the Monsters done that. There is more playable characters in War Gods but a lot of moves are too similar between the characters. At the same time, Primal Rage didn't really didn't have that problem. By now you kinda see what I had to write this.

Midway in some way was involved with both of these games. Yes they do have a saying that's different from Mortal Kombat's Finish Him/Her. In War Gods, it is Prove Yourself while in Primal Rage you get nothing at all. I can't exactly compare characters to each other like in my previous related blog.
