Top 5 Reasons Why I Prefer Devil May Cry over God of War

Hi everyone I'm Jack Red, today I want to talk about one of my favorite Capcom series. Devil May Cry series still is something that many game companies are attempting cash in on. One of it's best known competitors is Sony's God of War series. Originally centered within Greek mythology with the newest entry being in Norse mythology instead.

I am here to state my best Top 5 Reasons Why I Prefer Devil May Cry over God of War. Obviously both do have a huge fan base. Not everyone will enjoy my blog which is fine by me. As long you don't act like spoiled brats that by all means do what you want.

5. Better soundtracks
I am aware comparing both franchise's overall theme would easily led to controversiality. Especially God of War is more epic while Devil May Cry plays heavily towards intense rock songs. I could name more songs I like in Devil May Cry series than those in God of War series. Even some songs in DMC2 are good for what they are.

You can listen to a lot of those songs to keep playing for hours. I doubt you would feel the same way with God of War series. I also do prefer the sound effects within Devil May Cry series. Pretty much everything audio wise is more appealing to most gamers. Especially fellow otakus like myself & my wife.

4. Shorter levels
Let's be honest some levels in God of War series are so long or short with tedious puzzles. Yes some puzzles in Devil May Cry series can be frustrating but at least those are easier to memorize. Most levels within Devil May Cry series are short with some being lengthy and a select few being really short.

In God of War, you can upgrade during several parts of the game. But in Devil May Cry games after the original, you can replay levels. Let's say you used up too many health items or need more moves. You can replay any level you want for hours to help you in the long run. You can't do that in any God of War game.

Also I can change out the difficulty while maintaining my save. Which means I don't have to start over every time like in God of War series. It also means I can do the easier difficulties & harder ones within the same save. This by itself does help when the difficulty spikes. If you aren't properly ready in God of War series.

Trust me when I say you will lose often. They don't do much to help you out either. I could rebuild gold orbs that acts as extra lives to continue after I die. When you die in God of War series, you start from your previous check point. Some sections can take a while to get through. I should mention a handful of levels within Devil May Cry series is just a boss fight.

A fewer amount of them are boss rushes you have to complete. Thankfully you don't have to do all of them in DMC3. But if you choose to, you'll get a fragment of an blue orb that can increase your overall health. Some levels alter the reasons a little bit to force you to rush through areas to a particular point.

This by itself does challenge the player to do better & think fast on their feet. Last I checked God of War doesn't do that. Also it is majority to finish some enemies & bosses a particular way in God of War series. Thankfully this doesn't imply to many enemies & bosses in Devil May Cry series. Also in the case of DMC2, there's two endings.

3. More difficulties
God of War has a few difficulties while most Devil May Cry series has a lot more. Not just pushing you in your gaming skills. It also challenges how fast you can think on your feet & extra challenges applied by some difficulties. Some harder difficulties adds a lot more health to enemies with them doing more damage to you.

Heaven or Hell difficulty has you or your enemies dies in one hit. Which means this could be the easiest or hardest difficulty to you. Hell or Hell is similar except only you die in one hit. Your enemies are even tougher than previous difficulties. There also exists one in DmC game where you must get your combo up to triple S. Which on many bosses in general is very difficult to do.

If you don't get up to triple S then nothing you are doing is hurting them. To sum it up the hardest in God of War series falls short to some of the hardest difficulties in DMC series. These games on higher difficulties are really challenging games. Even being fully upgraded and filled with all items necessary.

You are actually more likely to lose just within one level of those difficulties. I am not kidding, if you don't believe me. Go try out Dante Must Die and some of the tougher difficulties to see for yourselves. Some of them really force you to get better at them fast. Just imagine doing one of the boss rush levels with one of those difficulties.

There is a chance you might lose it in seconds. At the same time, you are heavily into very tough to beat games. I highly recommend Devil May Cry series to you. Also the difficulty from easy & normal in God of War series is a huge spike in difficulty. A true DMC fan that is hardcore could beat all of them on their hardest difficulty.

In fact, if I ever met someone with proof of doing that. I would do way more than just give them a handshake. Those are the gamers we all wish we could be. God of War series has some of the most frustrating puzzles. You could be constantly watching a video & easily screw up these puzzles. The method of fixing them to properly again is tedious & not exactly obvious.

In Devil May Cry 4, there is a area you have to know which directions to go to reach the boss. You have to do this twice for the same boss in two levels. At least you can quickly figure out where to go. Especially every wrong direction leads you to a dark closed off areas with a handful of enemies. Among defeating them you can continue the puzzle.

2. More playable characters
More extra characters in God of War series aren't that different from Kratos himself. In Devil May Cry series starting with DMC2. You can play through the campaign with a few playable characters. Just in DMC2, both characters do face some bosses. At the same time, both has bosses only they face. This also means Lucia's campaign is shorter than Dante's.

Every playable character has their own fighting style. Dante himself has four main fighting styles you can switch out. Even their father Sparda has some differences from his children. In DMC3, Vergil does have a few cut scenes that aren't present while playing his campaign. Also no cut scenes from Dante will play in his.

Instead of Dante fighting Vergil three times. Vergil will face a red Vergil that suppose to represent his brother Dante. In Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition, they added Lady & Trish in a similar character usage to the original campaign. But Vergil is playable in every level in DMC4SE. Also unlike DMC3, this time the new characters has some cut scenes of their own.

Some original cut scenes are still present to a degree with a few key portion late in the campaign are removed. Instead of a cut scene before a boss, you simply go right into it. Yes you can upgrade their weapons & add moves too. Each character has their own feel making the same campaigns feel refreshing.

Trish is done differently from DMC2 to DMC4SE. Which by itself makes playing as Trish more interesting. Lady is so far only playable in the newer version of DMC4. Trust me you will be surprise how the game play differs with her. The extra battle during ending credits is different for all three campaigns.

Another cool thing that DMC series has is better costumes. Especially some later ones does greatly affect the game play. Such as Devil Trigger unlimited variations allows you to abuse your enemies with infinite usage of your devil trigger. Playing as Trish in DMC2 allows the player to do both versions of the campaign.

You get a lot of stuff to work up in the long run. Very easy to get use to with plenty of moves to help you out. Devil May Cry series simply looking out for you more. Each character can make some parts of the campaign easier or harder. You can also play as all of them in Bloody Palace mode. Originally you could play up to 9,999 levels.

Of course you could go the really long, slow way or a slightly faster way skipping ten levels or a very fast way of skipping one hundred levels. Originally in DMC2 there wasn't an ending to this madness. More recently they greatly lowered the amount of levels down to a little over one hundred of them. Regardless yes this mode will test just how good at the game are you.

1. Better boss fights
I am very well aware this could piss a lot of people off. I am speaking from my own experience. God of War series as stated before does force you to beat them in a particular way. By failing to do so will allow them their missing health back. Some truth this does apply to DMC series as well but not as much.

I strongly felt the bosses not counting DMC2 is simply done better than those in God of War series. Each boss has a different strategy with difficulty playing a huge factor. Most final bosses will truly push you as a gamer. As stated before yes there are boss rush levels. Most of them you do have to defeat every boss in those levels.

Each DMC game has an unique way of spicing up the boss fights. None of them ever gets boring after hours of playing. Some DMC games does have more boss fights. Yes a good number of them are rematches. Some of those do differ from their previous encounters. A perfect example is the final boss of DMC2. This being once ruled the demon world with a particular form, each character only faces.

In that regards sorta mirrors some of the early Resident Evil games in that way. All three encounters with Vergil in DMC3 are more different from each other. Each one greatly forces you to change up your strategy. Of course I should mention Mundus in DMC1, he gets some tough boss fights. Including the flying boss fight that took me several attempts to complete.

In some DMC games after defeating some bosses. Dante gets new abilities you could use when you want. Yes God of War series does do something similar but most moves are difficult to pull off. DMC series made doing that a lot easier to do. Which will really come in handily with boss fights. Very few bosses are more than one boss fighting you.

A great example are the two talking swords you face in DMC3. Which so happens to be one of my personal favorite weapons within DMC series. Some bosses requires doing enough damage to start attacking their weak spot. Some bosses do take away what you need for devil triggers. I should mention facing Jester in DMC3. You do have to face him once but you could take him on two more times.

Although not much changes in his boss encounters. I do like the idea of optional boss fights. Which is surprisingly rare in these games. This is how I exactly felt about this topic. Devil May Cry series to me will always be a much better experience. I really spent hours among hours playing the hell out of them.
