Jack Red reviews Back to the Future: The Game

Hi everyone I'm Jack Red, considering Telltale is almost gone now. I figured to review a lot of their games I played earlier this year. What better game to start with then the very first Telltale game I wanted. Now considered to be the best licensed game on the movie franchise. A game that really doesn't need any kind of introduction.

Back to the Future: The Game has five episodes. They did licensed many things I know from the movies. Christopher Lloyd reprises his role as Doc Brown actually several versions of him. Believe it or not, despite another actor playing Marty McFly. The original actor Michael J. Fox does cameo late in this game.

The very beginning is very similar to a iconic scene from the first movie. A lot of jokes & songs you know from them are present too. A couple of familiar characters do appear a lot as well. One interesting fact originally someone in house voiced Biff Tannen. More recently in 30th Anniversary Edition, the original actor Thomas F. Wilson reprises his role.

Before this game only Super Back to the Future Part II was worth mentioning. There is no secret majority of Back to the Future games are horrible. I was very blown away how damn good this game is. I should mention even with puzzles taking a long time to complete. There is no real way to lose unless you give up.

You only play as Marty but trust me you will get to explore several time periods. Sometimes it isn't clear what to do or where to find stuff. This is like one big interactive Back to the Future movie. In fact many fans considers this to be Back to the Future 4. Despite the fact they want the main canon to remain as three movies.

Speaking of different canons, two alternate versions has one additional entry. One of them has Back to the Future cartoon that also has Christopher Lloyd while the other one has this game. It is interesting Lloyd also appears in another point & click game called Toonstruck. Which further bags questions since he appeared in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? movie.

They did a great job keeping the story interesting. Yes some concepts got reused but in a way it doesn't get old. You get to learn more about several characters. Telltale did an amazing job recreating what so many love about those movies. I would even say it is one of my absolute favorites among their work.

It is a shame very recently Steam removed this game. I am so glad I got this much earlier in the year. I do recommend a guide just in case you are getting confuse what to do. There are some frustrating puzzles that some guides won't be helping you much in doing. The perfect example is young Dog gets into an argument with his father.

You really need to pay attention to basic things he is saying to help point you in the right direction. Some of what he says can be a little throwing off at first. Thankfully even if you kept screwing up you still can continue the puzzle. You get to see several versions of Hill Valley just like the movies. This felt like a true successor to an amazing legacy.

Yes you can set the game into giving you hints but you really need to figure a lot of stuff out on your own. There's a lot of creative in this game alone to keep bringing you back. Fox's cameo is another relative of Marty's. In some of the movies, Fox plays some of Marty's family members. It makes perfect sense that would be how to bring him in.

Speaking of Fox, all pre orders of this game was directly given to Fox's charity. I heard awhile back his condition isn't good. This guy has talented despite his disorder. Back to the Future: The Game is truly a master piece. If you love the movies, here's the perfect game to play. Not only it puts you in the mood to rewatch them but also play more of this too.
