Why Resident Evil 1 and 2 remakes are better than Resident Evil 3's?

Hello everyone I'm Jack Red, rather than doing a full comparison blog of solely Resident Evil 3. I don't think I could do something like that enough justice. I know some fellow fans wants to know how I felt when comparing RE3 remake to the previous two remake games. Don't worry I won't hold back here. Let's just say spoiler alert not good.

For starters, both RE1 and RE2 remakes are very faithfully to the original games. They do often change many things while staying true enough to enjoy them the same. Sadly, RE3 greatly fell harder here than I realized. Let's start with the enemies, an easy place to start. RE1 remake maintains all previous enemies while adding some new ones.

Resident Evil 2 remake does remove spiders, rats, cock roaches and crows from the game. But they actually made Ivys scary for the first time to me. The Ghost Survivors has three additional zombie types you could face. They also made G-Type creature into a recurring enemy while in the sewers, genius move.

Majority of their boss fights is kept with some getting changed more than others. RE3 removed Grave Digger, a giant worm you faced twice as a boss in the original game. Honestly, I felt they could work with that but simply chose not to. This meant the only boss monster in that version was Nemesis. Two of which were somewhat similar.

Oh I'm not done yet, a lot more enemies from RE3 aren't present as well. Such as Brain Suckers and Sliding Worms. It really doesn't help how they went about placing some of these enemies. In all honestly made the game felt limited in what it could do. The perfect example being Drain Deimos in only one location when originally they appeared in most locations.

The closest of new enemies so happens to be Lickers and Pale Heads from RE2 remake. Yeah I was kinda hoping we gotten more than this. To be fair, both hunter models are beautifully done in this game. Hunter Gamma being one of scariest by far. Although, they only can do an instant death move this time around.

Both RE1 and RE2 remakes had better overall pacing. Keep in mind, RE1 has multiple endings with both characters. RE2 has four possible scenarios you can play with some notable changes. Not as much as the original game though. You can clearly tell this game got rushed due to how easy you can speed run several sections of it.

Another notable problem is lack of unlockables. Sadly, there's no variation of the game unless you count Nightmare & Inferno difficulty of RE3. There's no mini games like the solo mini game of the original game. Most of the dlc support actually went to Resident Evil: Resistance. Which is very unusual the main game itself got the short end of the stick here.

Costumes is very in short supply as well. Due to removing Carlos' classic outfit, you only get three outfits between two characters. Now I know, there's way more outfits in Resistance but that's more of it's own thing. Both RE1 and RE2 remakes had a great selection of outfits you can wear. The amount of puzzles does seem to differ.

RE1 remake clearly had the most puzzles. I felt RE2 remake's smaller amount works better for it's style. But come on, there's virtually a handful of puzzles in RE3's. The original game had a lot more interesting puzzles in comparison. Which also brings me to another great reason why it failed. Originally, you had these quick time events that do alter many things.

Such as how the story plays out or item placements. One of these also can give you a boss fight with Nemesis in front of the police station. I am very disappointed this mechanic didn't return. Basically you only get one ending regardless how you play the game. Now granted a couple of Resident Evil games done that as well.

Yet most of those are way better in comparison to this. As stated before, RE1 and RE2 remakes has multiple endings. I don't have much to say on inventory since it's decent in all three games. RE1 remake does feel the closest to the original RE games without question. But RE2 remake virtually changed how one should remake any video game.

Sadly, RE3 remake is more like it tried doing it like RE2 a little too much to stand out on it's own. I actually was hoping they might've add in more story in a few sections of the game. RE1 remake does add more story to what already was there, I loved it. In some regard so does RE2 remake. In terms of recreating Jill from RE3, it was alright, nothing special.

Which is a shame because Jill Valentine a big fan favorite among the characters. I will be brutally honest since I kept holding this in for so long now. I actually felt including the side characters & Nemesis, all of them looks as well as sounds better than Jill. Now you know you are doing something wrong with that happens.

There's no question I loved Nemesis' new look, I respectively prefer the classic one a bit more. Some notable deaths were somewhat better. But come on, you ruined Brad's death with this. He originally got killed out of no where by Nemesis while Jill was watching. He ended up getting killed shortly afterwards by Nemesis.

Now that's such a iconic video game death why did they changed it being killed by zombies? To me, that felt like a huge slap to the face. I do liked Mikhail & Tyrell more in the game. I actually prefer Mikhail's new death scene. Depending on things, all of them has sections you play as other characters.

There's a few of these with Rebecca in RE1 through Chris' campaign. You play as Ada or Sherry only once rather than twice like in the original game. But they actually felt like you were playing as them in RE2 remake. We haven't even got to the other modes in RE2 yet. In most versions of RE2 including remake is The Fourth Survivor as well as The Tofu Survivor.

The Tofu Survivor was a harder, parody version of The 4th Survivor mini game. In the remake version, you can play as five tofu characters. They didn't hold back from that joke did they lol. There's also The Ghost Survivors mode where you play as those who originally died in the campaign. In these non canon stories, each playable character survived their own way.

The voice acting was way better in RE1 and RE2 remakes respectively. The hidden weapons are fine like a heat knife, infinite assault rifle, infinite rocket launcher, infinite handgun, and RAI-DEN. Originally RE3 just reused the same hidden weapons from RE2. So I am happy at least they changed it somewhat.

I still say RE2 remake had the best hidden weapons. Not only you'll get the same three hidden weapons from the original game. You also get a knife that doesn't break and an infinite handgun. RE2 even went the distance with nostalgia in comparison. You actually can wear PS1 inspired costumes which are free dlcs.

You have to pay for it, the original RE2 soundtrack. This alone was beyond anything RE3 remake ever done. The main reason I'm not bashing RE1 remake for not doing that because it's own soundtrack was better than 3 remake's soundtrack. They even removed areas from RE3 remake. Like the zoo area is completely absent.

Some areas even gotten shortened down a little too much like the police station, hospital and underground facility. RE2 through 2nd run campaigns differ every puzzle solutions to spice things up. I strongly felt everything was perfect balanced for RE1 and RE2 remakes. Clearly, RE3 remake simply can't compete with either of them.

Honestly, All three of them are technically great games. But I really can't say RE3 got remade well. It's clearly rushed, missing too much and all the focus got put on Resistance instead. Thus, it doesn't even feel great to get at fifteen bucks. In comparison, the previous two remakes did an amazing job recreating PS1 classics while being their own thing at the same time.

They shouldn't focus on making the game speed runner friendly. Also, Nemesis doesn't stalk you like he originally did. Which works both ways here, on one hand I can take my time more. But at the same time, he shows up at the worst of times. Some of those just didn't work for me sorry Capcom. I rather being stalked like Mr. X in RE2 or Ustanak from RE6.

This was part of the original vision the team had for Nemesis in the game. Also, the ways one could die just wasn't as exciting in comparison. Although, there's a few death animations that does stand out. Clearly, they were too focus on Nemesis the wrong way. Even to the point, a large amount of the dialogue talks about Nemesis more often than it should.

The original game didn't have that problem. As previously stated in my own review of RE3 remake. It strongly felt like Capcom just wanted to get RE3 remake done so they can remake RE4. Why not Dino Crisis or Code: Veronica? I actually had more fun playing as Nemesis in Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, another not great Capcom game.

Overall, Resident Evil 3 failed so hard being a remake of a horror game classic. At least, I can say it still feels like an Resident Evil game unlike RE6 and Umbrella Corps. In every possible way, it just isn't a great representation on how to modernize a classic. Especially compared to the original game itself felt lacking in content.

The original game had a couple outfits, four playable characters and several epilogues of several characters. Another thing you can't do even though it's mostly being used a joke here is you can't play as Tofu lol. By having quick time events, you can make every play through different in some way. It felt like a major missed opportunity.

My quick thoughts on Resident Evil: Resistance where they stand right now

Also, let's be brutally honest about Resistance. It is very obviously Capcom wanted to attempt cashing in on Behavior's Dead by Daylight. I'll even break it down for you quickly. Both allows you to be one of four survivors with the goal to escape or the killer to kill the survivors. Yes, I know on the evil side it's done very differently.

There's plenty of cosmetics in both games. You can create builds for each character. Although, the entire process of doing that is vastly different. A couple companies attempted to cash in on DbD's success over the years. None of them got close enough to do so. I wouldn't count Friday the 13th: The Game despite the similarities.

Honestly, Capcom simply didn't go about this concept well. They hired a different team just for this online game. The director of that game confirmed the game was finished. Almost a year already over difficult to believe I know. If Capcom can't do it than who the hell will? I still think DbD is better in a lot of ways.

If enough people were interested, I may do a full comparison blog between the two games. I know it's somewhat pointless in a few ways. But as a huge fan of both franchises, I wouldn't mine making it. The choice is ultimately yours. Personally, I am thankful to have Nemesis, Mr. X and William as trump card creatures in the game.
