I decided to do this comparison blog in sections. Don't worry in due time a survivor version will come. I recently put so much time into being the Mastermind characters. I figured one long comparison blog won't do as well. Also, this gives me more room to breath while making this project. Just don't expect this to be over soon.
Hello everyone I'm Jack Red, I know it's a little early to do a smaller comparison. I figured since I put a lot of time just this month into being all Mastermind characters in Resident Evil: Resistance. Why not reveal how I truly felt about the experience on being the villain in matches. Now I know this likely regardless how I go about will have some people disagree.
Keep in mind, this is strictly my opinion alone. This is virtually combining a lot of reasons to become just 5 great reasons. Now, I put a lot of hours into both games. Trust me, you may find this interesting to read or ignore it altogether. To me, it makes absolutely no difference. I just hope those who do read this enjoy my work.
5. Some creatures wears cosmetics
Let's get this out of the way, Dead by Daylight has a lot more outfits in comparison. There's no hiding that but here you can pick which zombies wears em. There's some joke outfits too to make things interesting to say the least. My point is you can use multiple different outfits across several enemies. Instead of simply wearing one outfit.
Yes, I know in DbD you have more freedom to alter how you want to look. I still prefer having enemies dress up like things you just wouldn't expect. Clearly, these developers have a weird sense of humor. Zombies could look like mummies, Count Dracula, a dinosaur costume and a few others. I just like you can use multiple outfits during matches to spice things up.
You also can spray pictures on the map. Another somewhat funny thing they actually allowed is doing gestures as well as taunts as some of the creatures. Now it's not everyday you'll see a zombie doing some dance moves lol. I don't think they included the moon walk move from the late Michael Jackson. Honestly, you can't do that at all in DbD.
4. More map control
It's no secret some killers in DbD doesn't do well with map control. Thus, the player has to work harder to try winning matches. It likely comes down to luck or just plain stupidity of the survivor players. Regardless, as a Mastermind you not only fully see the map. You can switch between the cameras. Most sections of all the maps has a decent amount of cameras.
Basically you got eyes everywhere for the most part. Which is important in games like these. You also can do many things to slow down survivors, more on that later. Doors can be locked forcing more effort out of the survivors to open them. In some Area 3 sections, the Mastermind can cover up tanks the survivors needs to destroy.
3. Your goal is simply waste time
Although in both games you have the choice to being one of four survivors or the villain player. The dark side of it has different goals. In Dead by Daylight, for the most part the killers needs to sacrifice survivors. Sure, you could use a mori that does require hooking an survivor at least once. But that depends which type of mori or method of getting one.
Some are more strict than others to pull off. In Resident Evil: Resistance, the goal isn't about killing the survivors. As long there's time left they can revive for another chance at escaping. The Masterminds are more about wasting time to prevent them from escaping. Trust me, sometimes you have to be creative to waste time during matches.
Keep in mind, using creatures and traps but they ended up getting taken out by the survivors adds to their time. Nicholai does have a famous strictly gun build, which I tried out not long ago. It greatly reduced their ability to increase their time. But I do need to mention, this is rather tricky to pull off. You have to get better at using guns as well as being ready to move to another camera at times.
2. Voice overs
Currently, none of the killers in DbD has actual voice overs. I loved all five Mastermind characters has voice overs. In fact, a lot of lines with some you can choose to say during matches. Daniel in particular has the funniest lines in the entire game. None of them are hiding how they felt about torturing and killing the survivors.
Simply having the voice overs alone, I felt more like I'm actually them while playing matches. Of course, Nemesis has a few lines too like his famous "S. T. A. R. S.!!!" line. Sometimes, William will say "Help me!!!" like he did in his first boss fight in RE2 remake. I also liked some of their lines goes with some of the survivor's lines too as if they were having an conversation.
1. More in depth builds
This might come as a surprise to those who only played DbD but not Resistance. There's a lot more to consider when making a deck for any Mastermind. Like each Mastermind has three skills with one directly affecting their Ultimate cards. You also get equipment that can be less or the maximum of 25 points.
Obviously, this means you can't fully use every possibility like in DbD. But it does better help with the balance. You also can choose up to 10 cards. There's a lot of ways you could play the matches here. Mostly creature theme, gun theme, trap theme, a mix of those and more. Personally, I do rely on using Vapors to quickly add effects to creatures.
Oh wait that's still not all folks. Each Mastermind character can select up to two exclusive cards. Area 2 will give that Mastermind which Area 2 card you selected. Same with Area 3 with those cards. There's a couple misses but the hits among them do stand out like Remove Shell is absolutely no joke. Some of the other reasons also applies here as well.
You also can select between five options for a map layout with the fifth being random. Basically leave it up to chance which one out of the four you'll get. This does effect where key items will be in Area 1. It also does effect the later sections with objective locations for the survivors. Thus, you could plan an ambush or stall them in other ways.
The best part of all is in DbD as the killer you're mostly by yourself. Recently with The Twins, it's virtually two killers. They act as the solo exception to this following point. When you play as The Mastermind, you control a small army. Thus, you use Bio Energy to your advantage to making their odds not as great in comparison.
I actually seen some builds where those players were able to quickly filled an room with enemies no lie. I should point in equipment section, a handful of it applies to Ultimate cards. Mostly how long they last as well as how much damage they dealt that's it. You also got stuff to increase other functions like cameras or weapons that attach to them mostly different types of guns.
A great Mastermind has to plan for as many possibilities as possible. You never know if you could be facing a group of skilled survivors that have access to the hidden weapons. Some of these will do a lot of damage to whatever you summon. You also get great at wasting their time as well as their resources during a match.
There's a few types of cards you can use in your deck too. Creatures, Traps, Firearms, Effect and Mods respectively. You also could gain access to a few bonus cards that won't cost any Bio Energy at all to use. It depends if the survivors kill the supply zombie or not though. If they kill him, they could get some great stuff.
If not, you possibly could get Generator Mod - Large which helps with getting more Bio Energy in a short period of time. There's also Binding Flash, Ivy, Teleportation Trap and Grenade Launcher. I felt most of those will help more than Generator Mod - Large sadly. Using equipment can greatly improve your chances if you know exactly what to go for within 25 points.
Effect cards are mostly enhancers you'll use on creatures. Like Regen, Infection (very important), Energy Leech, Berserker and Invulnerability respectively. Mod cards are bigger risks but more meant to reduce the amount of work you do during the matches. For example, there's a virus mod for a short period makes any creatures you spawn already infectious.
I highly recommend using stuff like discount or any Energy Booster cards. This will temporary lower the amount of stuff you'll need during the matches. Trust me, this can greatly increase your chances at winning any match. Stuff like Overclock is a quick boost of Energy Boost with a notable waiting period but having Clone card.
Yeah I do need to discuss, one of my absolute favorite cards in the game. Clone card could appear at the beginning of a match not costing or doing anything. But it can quickly show up as the same card you just used. Keep in mind, every clone card is one more Bio Energy than the actual cards. These discount cards used prior could quickly be reused again.
As for your Ultimate cards, it's rare to gain access to them in Area 1. But for the most part are that Mastermind's strongest offensive card. You also could use two of them defensively to block some objectives as well. Personally, Remove Shell is worse to go up against than Mr. X honestly. Just building a deck you want will take time due to ranking all five Mastermind characters up a lot.
Trust me, it is worth going through the trouble. A great deck can hold up amazingly well against great teams. If you choose to do strictly traps and guns direction, you greatly limit the survivors gaining time. But at the same time, you have to more directly hunt them down. There's cons no matter how well set up your deck is.
