Jack Red talks about Sega Genesis

Hi everyone I'm Jack Red, considering Sega Genesis Classics came out for both PS4 & Xbox One. I figured to finally talk about one of my personal favorite game consoles of all time. Maybe this will give you an idea how I view gaming to a degree or answering some mysteries about myself. This console was my first among many of them.

Sega Genesis is the successor to Sega Master System aka SG Mark III in Japan. By now everyone knows Sega went head to head again. This time, Sega was fighting back with a lot of fire power of 16-bit awesomeness. Sure the audio chip is flawed but it still have truly amazing sounding games. This is one of those consoles that seems to keep getting game compilations or AtGames' punishment.

What's funny is there's barely any SNES game compilations around. Yes I am well aware about SNES Classic Edition with Genesis Classic Edition on the way. Sadly AtGames got their hands all over it. They already did a smaller Genesis model nick named model 4 by Sega fans. Quickly doing their own handheld version with SD card support for pirating games.

More recently they released Sega Genesis Flashback that's suppose to be SNES Classic Edition's answer. Which further bags the question of why the same people screwing up the audio so bad are doing it? Also they keep changing up the game line up with a good number of crappy homebrew games.

These games are essentially worse early PC game crap that's more meant to play when you're bored. Don't be more wrong even those computers had games you could play for hours. I mean more like classic educational to mini games garbage they really shouldn't call "Genesis games" mockery. An insult to those who grew up playing hours among hours on their Genesis consoles.

Yes I know I'm going on about AtGames but it is Genesis related so it's fine. This console had some great movie games like Toy Story, MMPR The Movie and Home Alone. Yes I actually like the first Home Alone game on Genesis sue me. Either you have a three button or six button Genesis controllers.

Both of them works just fine even among some of the worst games. Obviously six button controllers are more meant towards fighting games. Which there's plenty of them to go around on the console including four Mortal Kombat games with 2 versions of MK3. Some Genesis games from Japan like Alien Soldier are mind blowing for their time.

Hell Kid Chameleon, Comix Zone, Ristar and several others are truly unique games. There's plenty of ways about getting into this console. Simply because I'm so nice I will tell you the best three ways to get into Sega Genesis without AtGames crap products to ruin any or all interest of it. Just remember Sega put so much into this console for many great reasons.

1. Go play a model 1 or model 2 Sega Genesis
2. Go find a copy of Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for PS3 & Xbox 360
3. Go buy Sega Genesis Classics on Steam

Genesis is also home to some of the absolute greatest entries in many franchises. Konami hit the ground swinging with Contra: Hard Corps: TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist & Castlevania: Bloodlines. The finest Shinobi games are on this console. Tiny Toons: Buster's Hidden Treasure was such a fun platformer for it's time.

Even Capcom had a ball with many of their games on Sega Genesis. I grew up with Saturday Night Slam Masters & The Punisher respectively. Of course Sega had plenty of their own games that usually gets in many game compilations. Sega Genesis also had some of the worst shaped cartridges I have ever seen.

Micro Machines 2 Tournament Edition had two additional controller ports on the cartridge. I should mention Sonic & Knuckles' lock-on cartridge that enable some crazy possibilities. Wisdom Tree had some of their games on the console. Not many of them were colored differently like Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage's cartridge was originally red.

Sega Genesis put up one amazing console wars against SNES. Even in second place, it still made the most among all Sega consoles. This console over the years including more recently got some amazing accessories to spike up the game play. One of those is an custom cartridge called Everdrive. The same company made similar custom carts on many consoles.

This allows you to virtually have every Genesis games in one cartridge with game genie codes & extras. This console back in the day through several devices can add Sega Master System, Sega CD & Sega 32X's libraries. You heard me correctly, Sega Genesis can officially play four libraries of games.

More recently a few websites made a easier to use device to play SMS games on Genesis. The official methods of playing it on both model 1 and model 2 can be frustrating. Genesis also had some amazing exclusive games made by different companies. One of my personal favorites was Rocket Knight Adventures.

I still own two old Genesis code books to this day in great condition. In that series of code books, there was only one SNES book to my knowledge. If anyone knows if they had more than one SNES books please let me know. I don't even need to mention how awesome most Sonic games was. I kinda like Sonic 3D Blast to a degree.

A developer of it chose to make a rom hack updated version. Personally this is the version to play unless you can get your hands on it's Saturn port. I always had a mixed relationship with Sonic Spinball but I like it enough to say yeah sure why not. I am a huge fan of Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine.

Puyo Puyo was a new franchise at the time, they figured to go licensed route to help make an impact in the United States. They first released Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine two years before Kirby's Avalanche on SNES. This & Sonic Spinball are based heavily on Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon.

Sonic Spinball also inspired by the more popular, shorter Sonic cartoon Sonic SatAM. Which I really recommend Sonic fans check out that cartoon it's amazing. Streets of Rage trilogy are truly amazing beat em up games you could play for hours & never get bored of it. Especially Streets of Rage 2 since it is one of the finest games on the console.

Honestly I could go on for hours on this particular console alone. I have a very personal connection to it at a very young age. Sega does have some versions better than their Nintendo counterparts. Genesis even was able to play games that shouldn't been too much to handle. Like Alien Soldier & Phantasy Star IV since they packed so much in many areas.

Another two games that really pushed the capabilities of the consoles. The Adventures of Batman & Robin and Toy Story for similar reasons. I should mention Vectorman series since they sorta were Sega's answer to Nintendo's Donkey Kong Country series. Genesis really stands the test of time in so many ways.
