Hello everyone I'm Jack Red, it turns out the game called Slalom was Rare's first video game. It also was originally an arcade game by Nintendo as well as the first ski theme games to hit the NES console. I recently played all twenty four tracks in mostly within one setting. Was this ski game worth the effort or avoid at all costs?
Slalom is mostly a ski game where you can choose which track set you want to do. Each one goes from easy to hard, you will be challenged. You need to master how to maintain speed if you want to get that one Slalom achievement. Some hazards like kids moving back & forward isn't on many tracks. You are more likely to avoid snowmen, trees and other racers.
The music is alright but the sound effects are notably better in my opinion. You have to be focus in later tracks. They will make it difficult to maintain speed with shorter gaps between poles that increase your speed to a degree. Missing one will slow you down just imagine missing a couple of them at a critical point.
You don't have to worry that much about the other racers. You still could move onto them or jump then suddenly one of them moves directly where you're going to fall can be annoying. The game doesn't confirm how many people are using the track that's actually racing. There is no upgrade system which is something both R. C. Pro-Am games in Rare Replay have going for em.
Slalom is not a long game by any means. It sure can become challenging with some tracks likely to barely make it to the finish line. This is a game you can take easy earlier on but you need to quickly get serious as it goes on. Also, beyond the eighth tracks in all three sets. The sets repeats while being essentially harder versions.
Slalom doesn't technically have an ending. It's a simple concept game that works enough to get you into playing the game. I would say it's worth checking out knowing it was Rare's first game ever. Of course, some NES games are better in their own right. I will say this, Slalom is a very straight forward racing game.
The best part is you don't have to worry about coming in first place. Something I also liked about the game Cobra Triangle. Honestly, it's not a bad game you just kinda wish it had a little more. What I mean by this is a little more variety in the snow theme tracks. Like what if an avalanche occurred how long can you survive on the track or going for a very high jump.
