Warning this will be a lengthy post, please take as many breaks while reading as possible.
The Purge (2013)
The Purge is a period of twelve hours where all crimes are allowed including murder. The country does this annually which gets truly ugly. A rich family paid to be safe from the purging outside. I should point out during those hours all emergency personnel isn't available including hospitals. At a point, a stranger appears on their property.
Sadly that person was targeted by a group of people purging. Which does get a bit creepy as the movie goes on. We have Lena Headey whose in Game of Thrones, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles & Dredd. There's a few twists as the movie goes on. Like those who was close to the family actually planned to purge them.
Yeah imagine that people you work with, you may treated like family ends up doing that. You start to see the corruption within the government as well. Just not as much as the other movies. The Purge was a good start to a good franchise despite a few mistakes. I would say check it out especially with other people. I will praise they had the balls to go for such an concept.
The Purge was ambitious for it's time. I am glad we don't live in a world like this. Personally, I already considered this as a death sentence shared by a lot of people. I also felt for being the original Purge movie it's acting alright. I do agree some aspects in the following movie is better no question. I will say this I still recommend you should check the movie out.
The Purge: Anarchy (2014)
This movie you get to see what it's actually like during the purge. More directly on being trapped in a city with a lot of people purging. Obviously hence the title, this movie gets even crazier. A lot of interesting twists happens during the movie. You get to see the purge at it's worst. No where is safe this time for a mom & her daughter.
I should mentioned this sooner, don't expect a small kill count in these movies. No it's surprising how many people dies within them. The Purge: Anarchy shows you why some people can't protect themselves looks like. It gets truly ugly with a man who planned revenge the entire time. You actually feel bad what happened to him.
At the same time, you are surprised how that plays out. He was even considering killing him following the conclusion of the purge. Of course, we get to see how people supporting the event. We also get to see it from those heavily against the event side. Which I felt should've been in the previous movie. I will say it's a good movie just not my favorite Purge movie oh no that's coming up.
I felt they did a good job upping things the right way. I do think this is one of the better Purge movies. Don't surprise people watch these movies on some holidays. On a more serious note, The Purge: Anarchy went about things just the right way. A lot of horror movie franchises changed too much or forget some important details especially in rushed productions.
I will respect this movie didn't get as rushed as it could've been. Which is why it turned out better than the former nearly happening to it. I would say they do a good job scaring people while you're watching the movie. You shouldn't shy away from this because sadly in real life there are people like those in this movie.
The Purge: Election (2016)
I'm not going to hide it, this was my favorite one. The election is coming, the government fearing a particular candidate may end the purge. They decided to fully go the distance in taking out as many threats as possible. This one fully shows how low they are willing to go to get what they want. I should mention the man I mentioned from the previous movie is back to protect the senator.
We also find out some people going out their way to treat people's wounds. Which is against how the purge works. I gotta say my favorite kill in the entire movie was when one of the medic people. Rams her vehicle into a crazy bitch then killed her not long afterwards, I was loving every minute of that. This movie had the most interesting story out of all the movies in my opinion.
There's plenty of great twists this time around already making it a must watch movie. It turns out a few targets including the senator was going to be purged to a secret community. Those who praise the purge as a form of region yes I'm not kidding. Even actual church people are willing take other people's lifes. Not only that we get to learn so much more in every point of view imaginable.
This one felt like a proper conclusion to the chaos. Originally caused by the New Founding Fathers, very arrogant to called themselves that. On purpose, the government cause insurances to sky rock right a few hours before the purge. Therefore, no one was truly safe I mean at all. The government was heavily out hunting particular targets themselves during all the chaos.
The senator follows great political advice from a supporter. Which led to her becoming the next President of the United States. Which chosen to directly end the purge, a smart move on her part. This was a satisfying conclusion to a great story. Way more than Halloween Ends, you can expect more of those salt coming.
The First Purge (2018)
To me this is my least favorite entry. Obviously this is how the purge begun. Eventually they had to show us that, just didn't like how they chosen to go about the idea. A couple with one of them being actively against the purge. Keep in mind, they went in with stuff that may or may no longer be used for future purge events.
The person who came up with the event ultimately got played by the government. The experiment period wasn't going as they had planned. So the government chosen to alter things by secretly getting involved with the actual testing period in ways they aren't suppose to. One crazy guy does stand out in this movie.
He also gets the honor killing the very first purge victim which quickly got shown to those watching TVs. The First Purge felt like a rushed concept film. If it were given more time minus the show counterpart, things would've been better. I was heavily disappointed in this movie. Not as much as Halloween Ends level of disappointment though.
The First Purge was a prequel that shown us the beginning of chaos. They even planned to paid people to either stay on the island or take part of the purging. Anyone who volunteers in some way has this awesome camera contact lens. Easily, the single coolest thing in the entire movie. Honestly, this Purge movie quickly fell into the crowd to not be heard again.
For my level of disappointment, I really enjoyed the first three Purge movies. Especially The Purge: Election, this felt like a major wasted opportunity. There's so much they could've done to make it even more interesting of a movie. It's not the worst horror movie sequel by any means. Just a massive disappointment for those who truly love these movies.
The Forever Purge (2021)
In my opinion, the single craziest Purge movie yet. Not much happens during the actual purge period. As a viewer, you already know something is up. It turns up, a lot of those purging waited on purpose for that period to end. Then they started what they called The Forever Purge. Yeah, keep in mind, this movie happened following The New Founding Fathers came back into office.
This was the first purge in almost a decade. Then it quickly had an unexpected development from people. Even the government was worry about how much The Forever Purge was damaging things for them. This might be a huge surprise, if you thought the other Purge movies gotten crazy in cities. This is full blown insanity that brought a lot of death.
A small group of people have to survive an unplanned continuation of the purge. This movie is very kill heavy as well. If you went into this Purge movie expecting the lowest kill count. You are clearly on drugs, where are some of those? LOL. The Forever Purge is like the true anarchy side of the people. More so than The Purge: Anarchy move for that matter.
I am not going to lie, this one felt like an reality I don't wanna live in. Virtually everyone else was in constant dangerous. People weren't going to stop raging, they really wanted it to continue. You truly get to see such ugliness within people. This movie really doesn't hold back in any possible way. The Forever Purge is a must watch for a lot of reasons.
You already know it's bad when they show record numbers of people killed around the world. Yes this gotten so big, the world is suffering from the lack of the purge events. At least to those who really wanna unleash their wrath among others. This movie is a bold one for going with such a scary concept. At the same time, I felt they nailed every bit of it as humanly possible.
