Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (2022)
This one stands out for a few key reasons. We gotten one of the creators of American Horror Story, Ryan Murphy. Dahmer is being played by Evan Peters. Whose in a lot of seasons within AHS show. He also played Quicksilver in a few X-Men movies as well as cameo on WandaVision show. I felt he done a great job displaying how the actual serial killer was like.
You do sorta feel AHS in this but it's more relatable too. You actually felt bad for Jeff's dad through out the show. They did a great job following the events of Dahmer's life. I felt in every possible way, everyone done an amazing job. This felt more real than originally expected. You have a show that quickly felt like a series of movies.
Obviously, some stuff got altered a bit nothing new when you adapt anything. Dahmer comes off like this kind person that kept feeling alone like no one wanted to be around him. Which was a major factor into why he killed people. They don't hold back on the gore but it isn't as unpleasantly showcase as AHS though.
We got to learn a lot about the man himself. Not only that, other people that were involved in some way. Like his mom, who clearly didn't even want kids in the first place. Another factor I felt led into such unpleasant events happening. You also got to see how Dahmer got away several times. When he actually got caught, it's a little surprising.
Well it's not the most surprising part of Dahmer's story. By the end of the show, you can see Dahmer trying to change things around. Sadly, in one way or another he was going to die. Suddenly he wanted redemption for his actions. I also think they had a great cast across the board. I would even say this done the story of a serial killer justice in how well it was all presented.
Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story also made references to other serial killers. Such as John Wayne Gacy & Ed Gein respectively. Both their fates also got revealed on the show. We even gotten to see them on the show too. Maybe they plan on doing similar shows on them like Conversations with a Killer series.
The big difference is those are actual documentary shows on those murders. I know for some this puts chills down their spines. You do feel bad for some of his victims. One episode deeply focuses on a particular victim you really felt bad didn't make it. I didn't like exploiting people for money suddenly became a reoccurring theme in the show.
I quickly found that in rather bad taste. Most families affected by murders of a serial killer rather wanted them executed than accept money screwing over Dahmer's dad like that. Let's be honest, you can have money which can be quickly replaced. But a family member after they passed can't be replaced.
Therefore, there's no price that could ever bring them back. They also shown the grandma more than what I was expecting. I had my own flashbacks when we last seen her because that also happened to my grandma too. I do like this show felt realistic yet relatable at the same time. Almost the perfect balance that's close to impossible yet somehow they managed to pull it off.
