De Rombkekomber review

Hello everyone I'm XboxClown89, I got an unusual demon movie to review today. This movie was made with no budget. Which I know right off the bat sounds bad. But this was in fact a home horror movie. I do respect many low budget movies especially home movies. Home movies is still a form of movie making at a low budget that often uses family & friends.

Even if I were to dislike the movie in question, I won't be as harsh. It's kinda like Chef Ramsay when asked how he treats those competing on MasterChef to those on Hell's Kitchen. He had a rather simple answer "Those on Hell's Kitchen should know better." It's also a Dutch movie called De Rombkekomber, I'm not used to watching Dutch films myself.

I do like how each country differs itself in some way when it comes to horror movies. Hell one year the website Cinemassacre done an entire month worth of different county horror movies. This already sounds way more interesting than Attack of the Killer Donuts, you all knew it was coming lol. I think it's time to get on with the actual review.

De Rombkekomber (2022)
I actually wanted to start off how I found out about the movie. I'm one of many admins on a Facebook group called History of Horror. Ricardo van den Bragt comments on one of my newer recent posts there. He later asked me to watch this movie. Now it's one thing to being asked to watch a movie. But here the creator of this movie himself asked me to watch his movie is something rather unexpected.

The movie is about this woman inherits a music box. One of her friends plays the music box. Which in return summons a demon, so the movie is kinda similar to Hellraiser franchise. In both cases, an object that's played with in some way ends up summoning demons. I should point out this is virtually an 0 budget horror movie.

I can respect they really worked with what they had. In most cases having too much money ruins a movie. In other cases not having enough money forces changes that ultimately affects the final movie. Sometimes, they stay within budget but it doesn't do well. Otherwise, there's also the positive side to all of this.

The demon looks more like an goblin. Which is fine for a few reasons. I could joke these people are being hunted by Demogoblin. He's essentially another Green Goblin rip off character that became a demon. I can respect regular people not even being actors took part in this. Home movies works better that way than having someone trained among them for a few reasons.

For starters, that actor could be a big star. Yet delivers a lackluster performance that hurts their career in the long run. Sometimes, people doesn't think about those. Also it just feels more right not having actual actors. Thus everyone can be more natural in comparison. I do have an unrelated story that connects to the theme in some way.

My parents knew another family making their own home horror movie. I never learned much since we were last there at their house. It was kinda cool knowing people making their own horror movies. I trust that way more than companies that openly makes mockbusters to rip people off. Here this is more if you watch it go right ahead the decision is yours.

I can also say the acting is what you expect in home movies. But trust me when I say it's way better than Attack of the Killer Donuts. Yeah you know a horror movie is bad when even home horror movies does acting notably better. Not to add salt to De Rombkekomber personally. I am just stating a simple fact here.

The music box is a little different than what I expected one to look like. Of course, you also see two guys playing Street Fighter II on SNES. I'm sure for gamers that brings back a lot of memories. I also recommend if you don't understand Dutch, make sure you enable Subtitles. This short movie is on YouTube.

The length is a little longer than expected but it's a nice fair length. The movie itself is around forty five minutes long. Another reason I respect home horror movies is how creative they have to be with the special effects. Especially in this particular case since as previously stated this is a 0 budget horror movie.

Let's be honest, if you are creative enough with the right people involved. Then yes it's very possible to do those movies. You have to work with whatever you have without getting anything additional is rather an unique challenge. Honestly, that by itself gives you enough reason to watch this. I would say the music chooses kinda works so that's a good sign.

You don't fully see the kills on screen which the web series Dead Meat won't like. Horror movies quickly became it's own universal language. Yes it even applies to home horror movies as well. It's a low budget movie that's better than you are expecting. Yes I have seen some home horror movies mostly from the youtuber James Rolfe.

Another factor is you have to work with people when they are available. There's no expect them to be present while filming the movie. Which is vastly different from even direct to video movie studios. In turn notably different from bigger, more main stream movie companies. Also there's a real dog unlike the fake animals in Attack of the Killer Donuts.

I hope you see the irony here, a movie with a slightly more notable budget couldn't even real animals. Here we have a home horror movie that has no budget at all has one real dog in it. I would say audio wise in terms of the sound effects it works for the movie. Yes I should mention a shower scene, a lot of home horror movies does that tread.

I also wanna clarify this isn't a found footage movie. Not to insult anyone whose a big fan of them, I just not crazy for em. This movie doesn't shy from the demon getting personal with his victims. Not even a small dog, there used to be a time stuff like that wouldn't affect me. Now when I see animals getting harmed or worse in horror movies, I get somewhat emotional.

Story wise it's not bad but you just wish more of the actual movie was filmed at night. Even a scene or two at night would've made this movie pop a little more in my eyes. The creator is making a sequel to this, we will see how that movies does. I would say a lot of home horror movies I seen are way better than the late director Ed Wood.

De Rombkekomber is a movie where a demon you summon will kill you. Of course, over the years there's different takes on the concept. Like the Necronomicon from Evil Dead series being another famous example. Which I actually can connect here because not a lot of people knows before the original Evil Dead movie.

There was a short film called Within the Woods which also had the actor Bruce Campbell. Parts of the short film were reused in Evil Dead movie. Back to this, De Rombkekomber does a good job with it's 0 budget concept. It's virtually a free home horror movie on YouTube. I would recommend giving it a watch.

Some previous victims gets reanimated too. The guy who caused the events runs a lot like this was an marathon. I do like how they went about surprising him later in the movie. He let his guard down then all of a sudden things went out of control. This demon will collect what it wants. I do like how they went about the story.

I felt for a home horror movie, it does work. It never set out to be a master piece. But I say it's more decent than expected. For a 0 budget movie you can watch online I say it already paid for itself. Oh wait I didn't pay anything lol. Overall, this was an interesting home horror movie. I do like the style behind making this movie, it's something I could get behind.

I will put a link down below for anyone whose curious enough to see the movie...
