Truth or Date (2017)
The story centers on a group of college students. They chose to rent the same place a previous horrific event took place for Halloween. Of course, they started to play Truth or Dare. This variation goes from a fun time to one truly mess up experience. Some of this borders on what some considers as nightmare fuel. A ghost gets involved by making the game more twisted.
Some rules with Truth or Dare applies. But choosing to not do the dare will lead to death. This ghost will actively stalk it's victims. Like Unfriended, some cheating was involved with the circle of friends. Yes this does turn into drama as well. Some dares involves harm to yourself or to others. One particular dare was forcing Luke to rob a gas station, yes it gets crazy.
The ghost does use technology to a degree as well. One dare was get run over by a car. This was because the ghost knew he previously hit someone in a hit & run accident but drove off. Therefore, this dare was actually the ghost punishing him for that. They even get forced to do Russian roulette. You know the famous gun game until someone dies from a head shot.
This ghost is punishing the group for their obsessions as well as their sins. A handful of them eventually found out that previous Truth or Dare game had a survivor played by Heather Langenkamp. Whose best known for playing Nancy in A Nightmare on Elm Street series including herself. Sadly, the movie ends before we could see who survived.
Which can be quite annoying considering such a crazy movie. One instructions forces two people to remove seven body parts. Thankfully, that wasn't for one person it's shared between the two. This has to be one of the meanest ghosts I ever seen in a horror movie. Also, the ghost will make sure to get it's way in each aspect of Truth or Dare.
Sadly, there's no I'm done in this version of the game. This is essentially similar to movies like Saw series & Would You Rather. Where they are forced to do truly unspeakable things to each other. The ghost doesn't even cares about the harm it's doing to them. Honestly, someone had a lot of guts to make such an unpleasant ghost movie.
There's a lesson here, don't hide ugly stuff like that. Eventually it's going to come out especially in ways you can't contain the amount of damage it caused to other people. Virtually, that's exactly the movie's message in a nut shell. No one is truly save from this entity. Hell you could be in the bath room considered to be a part of the game, all of a sudden you get killed because no one told you anything.
The very thought being involve with a game like this is terrifying to the right people. The game itself had it's own obstacles. Someone thought no that's not satisfying enough. Then someone at the studio said, "Maybe bring in an unpleasant ghost to terrorize the group?" "Yes that's a great idea, let's get to work people!!!"
Truth or Date is a movie that's difficult to watch at times. You will see some amazing special effects. Especially in harming themselves. Honestly, this was a great concept for a horror movie. Sadly, it isn't an exclusive content deal. Many people would do their own twisted variation of the concept. Why do you think we have so many frickin' shark movies!!!
