Hello everyone I'm XboxClown89, I want to show proper respect for one of my absolute favorite manga series ever. It's currently running a little over thirty years. More manga series are getting around that length. It originally started in Japan within the year of 1989. Berserk very quickly changed the world in ways you can't even begin to explain.
I do want to do something a little different. Up to Chapter 364, the author wrote as well as drew everything within his manga series. Prior to his death, there was some confusion. If the company wanted to cancel the series or continue the story through another person writing it. Keep in mind, the author already begun the direction going towards the end of the story by this point.
I want to cover chapters 1-364 separate from all recent chapters following the last chapter he created. The decision was made to allow someone close to the author to finish up his work. I will go more into details what the result of that was. I will say this, Berserk for the most part is an amazing story filled done way better than you're expecting.
Chapters 1-364 (deceased author's work)
I should point out, there's also a prologue too. Which that takes place later on but it does explain in other chapters. The story centers around a man named Guts. He's been in a few units of knights mostly the Band of the Falcon, a mercenary group. After he loss to their leader, Griffith. Guts joined, this group has some impressive victories.
Things were going incredibly well until Guts wanted to leave because he wasn't sure about his life. This led to him defeating Griffith. For a while, things went down notably for Griffith. Unfortunately for Guts, Griffith decides to use Beherit to summon the God Hand in order to sacrifice his own unit. One member was away at the time, they do later confront Griffith about this.
Thanks to Skull Knight, Guts and Casca survived a truly horrific fate. In doing so, both became marked as sacrifices for the supernatural. Stuff kept getting crazier as it goes I'm not kidding. We are talking several barriers in terms of reality gets broken. Which included anything from legends, fables or mythologies can co-exist with everything else.
The artwork alone is insanely well down. The mind blowing designs on everything. I still haven't seen any manga author that can draw like this. We get to learn so much about everything. I strongly felt up to late 2021, the story was incredibly constant. Yes, in later years we had to wait a notable process for more chapters.
Despite those, the author for the most part given us some amazing story telling. He made most of those well worth the wait. I am not going to lie, I'm deeply impressed with his work. We have more dark stuff as well as sexual context including rape. There's a lot of light moments despite how dark this story truly is.
Chapters 365-present (new author's work)
Unfortunately, the story started to notably go down in overall quality. There isn't as much dialogue as there usually is. The level of artwork isn't even close but the new author tried. How he's going about the story is already bagging more questions than actual answers. I know some people will take this the wrong way.
It took for the author to die for his magnum opus to start falling. I am going to be brutally honest, I'm deeply disappointed with the newer chapters. Not only that, you would expect more from someone whose was close to the author. Thus, this felt like a even bigger disappointment. It's not they're full blown terrible, it's still notably better than the final story Bleach arc without question.
Not to mention, we still get notable waiting periods. All of a sudden, all that waiting isn't worth it anymore. Which is really a shame for a story this great up to it started to fall. I will give credit for trying but they should've chosen to cancel the series. At least there, we the fans in our minds creates our own endings.
I strongly felt, this isn't the way to go. Berserk was a true timeless classic up to recently. I don't even wanna bother talking about what actually happened in the newer chapters. Let me tell you trying to explain one is literately like pulling teeth which I'm sure is actually more fun in comparison to do. Out of respect, I can recommend the manga series but you should stop reading by Chapter 364.
Obviously, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure & One Piece are more constant stories overall. Sadly, I felt Berserk could've been done more justice than this. The newer chapters felt notably not completed. After all, the company wanted to finish the story but they didn't figure out how many more chapters. We don't even know exactly how they planned to go about finishing the story.
What we do know is for a story this great. To fellow Berserk fans, we don't deserve this!!! It's a shame they couldn't just leave it alone. Other works with similar break periods like Hunter x Hunter is currently kicking it's ass right now. The same author responsible for that also wrote Yu Yu Hakusho. I wish I could say the newer chapters were worth checking out, they aren't.
