The Thing (1982)
I wanna keep it just the famous remake of The Thing from Another World by John Carpenter. The Thing is a beautifully crafted movie in every sense of the word. The movie is about a team sent out to Antarctica. They soon discovered an spaceship deep within the ice. We gotta talk about these creatures they mimic other life forms to a point.
They are shape shifters that unless you know the signs will likely kill you. The special effects in some scenes are down right terrifying. Like this guy on a table a doctor kept trying to bring him back. All of a sudden, a big mouth opened on his chest biting both his hands off. A lot of notable stars in this movie too. Like Kurt Russell, whose in a lot of movies since then.
We also have Keith David who later voiced Spawn in the HBO Spawn show as well as two characters in Saints Row series. He also replaced Clarence Williams III as the devil in Tales from the Hood 2, let's pretend that movie doesn't exists lol. The movie heavily involves paranoia because overtime you don't know whose replaced by an alien.
These creatures love the cold but can't stand heat especially from an flamethrower. I did like the blood test scene where a strange reaction happened after a particular person's blood got tested. Of course, the scene where the creature disguised as a dog killed another dog was difficult to watch. Keep in mind, they are a notable distance from civilization.
Which means only members of your team can save you when things goes bad. They do show more of the spaceship later on. You can tell the original movie meant a lot to Carpenter. Both versions from The Thing movies has been shown as a movie within a movie concept in Halloween movies. Audio wise, it's very spot perfection.
You get to see how these creatures works as well as people trying to survive to the best of their ability. I would say among the scariest aliens in a horror movie hands down. You could destroy the body but the creature can transform the head into it's own creature. Which makes things even more terrifying in the long run.
Flames seems like their best weapon. Very few members left even risked triggering an explosion. Honestly, this is a movie I always enjoyed. I would even say it's among my favorite horror movies of all time. To me, the single greatest horror movie remake I have ever seen. Of course, I have seen some bad ones.
I also seen some decent remakes like 90s version of Night of the Living Dead. This one felt like a very strong effort. Carpenter's version is actually more faithful to the original story these movies were based off of. Not to mention, The Thing is hands down Carpenter's scariest movie. Everything just works so incredibly well even after a few decades.
The Thing is such a great alien horror movie. You actually get so involve by watching. You kinda wish you could've helped them survive this threat. There's no question, this movie helped most people involved to some amazing job opportunities since then. In all honestly, The Thing is a classic every horror fan needs to see for themselves.
