Bad Horror Movie Sequel Wednesdays #14 Saw VII

Just in case I get busy later in the week. I am releasing this entry earlier. I hope you guys enjoy it like my last one.

Hi everyone I'm Jack Red, it takes a lot to disappoint me when it comes to horror movies. I seen a few disappointing conclusions to a few long horror movie series. I felt none has anger me more than Saw VII. Let's be honest we all knew by Saw III. The series was starting to go down but Saw 4-6 weren't that bad. Some interesting concepts in those three movies. Sadly I can't say the same for Saw VII.

Before I even talk about the movie itself. There is one major thing that's annoying to me. Usually for a final horror movie for a series. They stick with one title but not this one. Saw VII also goes by Saw 3D, The Final Chapter & Saw: Train Wreck my personal favorite. The actually 3D effects were very poor. There isn't a lot of good horror movies to nail those effects.

Look at Friday the 13th Part 3 & Freddy's Dead. Both of them gave you the option to watch them in 3D. If it doesn't work back then why attempt it on a Saw movie? Also you know how they tried to get their movies out before Halloween. Their excuse relating to Saw VII's 3D being poor is just stupid. They stated they wanted to get it out the door.

Therefore we could've had a slightly better movie if they would've delayed the movie. In order to improve the 3D effects. Although I doubt that would've helped much. This had such a horrible story that even Saw 5 had a better story than this garbage. You know how one of the main characters has some kind of connection to John Kramer aka Jigsaw?

Guess what the actual connection is so small it didn't even matter to the plot. Please allow me to explain in Saw, Dr. Gordon was a doctor that worked on John. In Saw 2. some of the police officers were on the same case since the beginning. In Saw 3, Jeff felt the same way about Timothy killing his son. John felt about Cecil killing his baby. He wanted Jeff to make a difficult decision to forgive.

In Saw 4, Daniel Rigs a SWAT Commander whose been involved with the case since the beginning. In Saw 5, John knew the horrible lie five people were hiding. Also two agents are playing a game of cat & mouse. In Saw 6, William Easton a insurance executive Umbrella Health denied John coverage. In other words he is letting John to die from cancer.

I hope you are just as excited as me about what possibly connects John to Saw VII? Bobby Dagen was a man lying about surviving a death trap from Jigsaw. Oh wait it gets even worse John came to one of his signings to tell him about I know you lied. Really are you telling me that's the personal connection to John aka Jigsaw? It's like they didn't try to give us something worth our attention.

I am going straight to one of the biggest disappointments of this movie. Usually everybody raves about those death traps. The horror classic Reverse Beartrap that got used more than most tests. Knife Chair meant for Cecil to bring the ugly of his soul out of him. Even some little traps caught my attention like the surprise Billy doll face trap.

I hate to say most of these traps are absolutely horrible. In fact I will name the only two traps introduced in this movie worth rewatching. The Horsepower Trap was easily one of the craziest by far. You have a group of people that will all die brutally deaths. The Pain Trap isn't technically a real death trap since it appears in Jill's dream sequence. Still a nice death trap with a very short scene.

Most newer characters felt like throw away characters right off the bat. Not a single one of them stands out in a good way. The big game as I already stated wasn't the major point of the movie. This really upsets me since a lot of work goes into the big game trap. For those surprisingly new to Saw movies. A test meant to push you in ways you can't imagine. Some movies really went the extra mile.

In Saw, Dr. Gordon was suppose to kill Adam before 6 o'clock. If he doesn't Jigsaw will have Gordon's family killed. A well put together test that's mostly in one large bathroom that could easily go crazy. In Saw 2, a group of people are trapped inside a house slowly breathing in nerve gas. Some tests are meant for particular people within this game.

They have only two hours to find an antidote or die. What's worse is those that don't survive for three hours after the game started. Those doors will open except there's actually more going on behind the scenes. This trick by John pulls was meant to force Detective Matthews to go to the house. In Saw 3, Jeff can choose to forgive or let people he felt could've help him die.

At the end of this test, Jeff can forgive Jigsaw for forcing him in this game or kill him. Not knowing his wife has a death trap of her own connected to John's heart beat. In Saw 4, Rigs is forced to travel to a few select locations. Each one including his home has death traps. He must overcome his obsession to save everyone in 90 minutes. Also within that same time limit is Detective Matthews' life in the bounce.

In Saw 5, I already gave away the big twist of this big game. A reporter found out what actually happened leaving to a lot of deaths. Everybody else played a horrible role in that particular event. Two of them found out they were all meant to work together. This is because most of them are only looking out for themselves.

In Saw 6, William has a series of tests. He can choose to save some of his co-workers. Sadly three particular tests forces him to let people die. In the end, his family gets the final say if William can live or die. A nice twist considering the main person in those big games usually fails on their own. I also like this twist allowing someone else trapped for the entire game to choose to save or kill William.

At the same time has no real way of knowing when he has arrived for his final test. Honestly I thought it was brilliant conclusion to a big game test. How does Saw VII stake up to the previous movies? LOL it sure doesn't at all since Bobby has to save other people. As stated before none of these death traps in this big game are even worth mentioning.

In fact even I did take the time to describe just one of them. I would've wasted your time that easily could've went toward something much better. Guess what the test meant for Bobby is? Could you ever possibly guess he has to rip out his own wisdom teeth. By doing this with the tool placed in the room to get the combination to leave it.

I mean come on Bobby ripping out his own wisdom teeth by himself is your big idea? To me that completely missed the entire point of what a true Saw trap is. I would rather witness the death mask trap again with a explosive twist. Now that would've been miles better than that. I hate to say it none of the kills outside the traps are worth anything.

I should mention Agent Hoffman barely survived the improved Reverse Beartrap. By this point, everyone in the police department knows he is Jigsaw's successor. He goes out of his way to send a robot to gun up the place. He forces Jill into the classic Reverse Backtrap without the key. Unfortunately for him, his true test John left him is finally used.

Back in Saw 5, John confronted Hoffman about killing Seth to frame him. This led to Hoffman becoming his apprentice with Amanda. His true test & the final death trap set into motion by John is Dr. Gordon. I am not kidding the doctor who cut off his own foot to escape the room. It turns out he has secretly been involved with some of their traps.

This test I speak of was about if Hoffman survive, would he forgive Jill? Of course he doesn't leading to Gordon trapping him in that room for the rest of his life. You heard me correctly the legacy of Jigsaw ends literately by himself because of Hoffman. Oh ok I am beyond words in still trying to puzzle this twist.

Despite the major issue behind the ending, I do like Dr. Gordon is the one to stop Hoffman. This movie has virtually nothing good enough to keep you coming back. More like the absolute opposite since it fails in every possible category. What kind of conclusion of the story is this crap? It is very obvious at this point they were already done making these movies.

Saw VII is a mess of a movie that most horror fans need to stay away from. Freddy's Dead had more rememberable scenes. Both attempts to end Friday the 13th movies had a lot more going than this abomination. Even Phantasm: Ravager had slightly more positive things going for it. This is a movie that not only got loss within itself but also completely missed the mark.

Considering this particular series was to tie in for several Halloweens. For this one to suck so bad, I believe most of you would agree. There is many movies out the same year more worth your time than this. Hell I'll name a few horror movies Killjoy 3, Puppet Master: Axis of Evil, Resident Evil: Afterlife and Stake Land. All four of those movies are much better than this crap.
