When Death Battle announced they were coming back. One of two fights revealed right off the bat was Dr. Robotnik vs Bowser. Which so happened to be one of my absolute biggest requests to date. Let's be honest how could it not be? It's essentially Mario vs Sonic but their arch enemies facing each other. I actually felt this had more interesting possibilities in comparison.
It also matters which versions of both characters they're using. Like live action movie version, obviously Dr. Robotnik wins smoking!!! They're both in a lot of canon within their franchises. Death Battle for the most part likes to stick with the main canon. Unless they had reasons to use alternate versions. Such as Xeno Trunks vs Archie Silver that ultimately more interesting than the main canon versions.
Sonic wise what a year it has been. We gotten Knuckles show let's pretend it doesn't exist. A new Sonic game, Sonic x Shadow Generations going to be out soon. Later this year is Sonic 3 movie that should be amazing. I am not keeping up with Mario, I already left Nintendo behind. I still have respect for the character though.
I do sorta recall comparing these two villains growing up. Despite the differences they are strikingly similar in some aspects. Maybe not to the degree of Ganondorf vs Dracula. This is a huge deal for the show. We got two of the biggest video game villains in history facing each other. We already know it's going to be way better than Eggman vs Wily episode.
I'm not sorry Ben lol, I still disliked they done Bowser vs Ganon. I already discussed many reasons why. At least here, I felt both of them has a chance. Not only that, they can actually do a lot more with the characters. We are officially getting another war theme fights. I actually enjoy those a lot with Ultron vs Sigma being my favorite.
There's so much they could do with this alone. It's even good enough to be the season finale in a shorter season. If it's not I might be critical what the actual season finale episode going to be. I previously had in the past that may not change here. I know all this hype, I'm sure it's going to be well worth the wait. I was very excited about it's announcement myself.
Verdict
Bowser
I think the best possible way to determine who wins. We got to consider as many situations as possible. Then limit both their access to additional stuff. Therefore, we can see whose more versatile. Basically gladiator style they go in with what they got with em. This could even be the deciding factor who wins. I strongly felt Bowser simply better suit in that department.
Sure we could take the time to name some crazy possibilities. Majority of those they both done. Well Dr. Robotnik needed something additional to do the same. Like manipulating time, he needed an altered time being as well as another Robotnik to do that. Obviously this is magic vs science concept. Bowser lacks science while Dr. Robotnik lacks magic.
Unfortunately for the mad scientist, Bowser can more easily work around science in this fight. Let's be more honest, he's a more broken character. He virtually trumps stats by default with questionable durability. I see questionable because sometimes he could survive lava while others loses his flesh. The same can't be said for Dr. Robotnik.
Another critical factor is Dr. Robotnik just doesn't hold his own against similar beings to Bowser. Like Perfect Chaos who used all seven chaos emeralds to reach it's final form. Almost like a water based Godzilla monster. He actually gotten one shot by Perfect Chaos in record time. If Dr. Robotnik couldn't handle Perfect Chaos.
How could he even begin to handle Bowser? Army wise, Bowser simply better set up. Then again so was Dr. Wily in his war fight too. Despite Dr. Robotnik being a lot smarter sucks at setting up an army. Honestly I'm expecting his army to be destroyed. Not only that, Dr. Robotnik can't counter a lot of stuff Bowser could do during a fight either.
Dr. Robotnik heavily relies on technology. He lacks combat outside of using technology. Which puts him at a huge disadvantage against Bowser. Whose more used to facing Mario with whatever he had. Although both of them are quite arrogant. I actually can say Dr. Robotnik possibly too much for his own good.
Dr. Robotnik doesn't have many options that could hold up to Bowser within his arsenal. Gladiator style version very likely won't have anything major enough to help either. Bowser's magic mastery is truly game changing here. He even could win the fight at any given time he wants. Dr. Robotnik could bring in Metal Sonic to assist.
In main Sonic canon, Metal Sonic previously betrayed his creator. So it's debatable in this situation where Metal Sonic stands. If he decides to go against both of them that won't end well for him. Dr. Robotnik might altered his design to stop him in his tracks. Even if he copied Bowser's stats, he's not backing down from a fight.
It's very likely despite his speed, Metal Sonic ultimately lose to Bowser as well. He wouldn't know magic, which by itself ensuring his destruction. Dr. Robotnik has to be like Iron Man to prolong this fight. Eventually he's going to run out of time. Bowser simply too much for him to handle. We could give Dr. Robotnik his best stuff in this fight.
I still don't think any of that game changing enough to win this fight. Dr. Robotnik constantly going to struggle against magic. Bowser simply can nope several situations Dr. Robotnik force onto him. Let's be honest, Bowser is among the most ridiculous Nintendo characters they had on the show. Dr. Robotnik often loses to a very fast hedgehog.
Sonic is quite amazing in what he's done. The same also can be said of Mario as well. I know some people going to use the famous Dr. Robotnik loses to constantly getting jumped on logic. Bowser does have a spiked shell, he could easily destroy most of his inventions. Dr. Robotnik simply lacks something major enough to turn the tides.
Even if he had something, Bowser likely too broken of a character for it. Bowser can manipulate a lot of things. He's more of a fantasy style villain character. Dr. Robotnik being the more mad scientist type. Mad scientists are often using their creations to do their work for em. Which kinda hurts Dr. Robotnik against Bowser here.
Does anyone remember the old days of Dr. Robotnik often facing off with Sonic? I sure do, those are becoming distance in recent years. Bowser virtually has exactly what he needs to win this fight. Dr. Robotnik in every possible way requires something to help better his chances. Ultimately, Bowser going to wreck this mad scientist like a wrecking ball going through a wall!!!
I also wanted to discuss a rough idea what the other canon versions are like down below...
Keep in mind, this prediction mostly focus on the main game canons of both characters. This easily could've went very differently depending on which versions used. A good example being the later Archie Robotnik could've rivaled Bowser enough to make it a close fight. Fleetway Robotnik became a God very late into the story.
Also DIC Entertainment that had several shows for both franchises. King Koopa largely the same in those. Surprisingly, they given us three different versions of Dr. Robotnik. The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog easily the most ridiculous among them. I personally describe the show being Ren & Stimpy on crack lol.
At one point Dr. Robotnik had chaos emeralds. Which were vastly different from most canons. It was more like on The Jackie Chan Adventures with the talismans concept. Eventually Sonic & Tails figured a way to win. Just some of his plans doesn't make sense. Dr. Robotnik is essentially crazier than in most canons.
Considering the ridiculous toon stuff Sonic can do in that show. It shouldn't be a surprise Dr. Robotnik in his own right possibly a broken character too. There's a particular episode he kept repairing two robots to the point he finally said something about it. Also he did allow Grounder to exist whose essentially an weirder, smaller, dumber Inspector Gadget!!!
The other two Sonic cartoons had him ruled an planet. Sonic with his allies fighting to get it back. Which also got used to a degree in Sonic Forces game. There's more Sonic shows I haven't touched yet. Dr. Robotnik is notably different in these shows. Therefore, the factors widely changed depending on that.
Super Mario Brothers movie Bowser possibly can beat Dr. Robotnik using the Master Emerald. I still haven't touched comics much in this discussion. Mangas and comics, they're in them too. It's safe to say those possibly more ridiculous than their main game canon versions. I'm very positive they are keeping it just the main canon versions.
Can you imagine compositive every version of both characters? The massive head ache awaiting them. There would be so much confusion while researching as well as comparing the two. There's no way they are going to do that with this fight. Possibly with Hulk vs Godzilla but not here. I just felt Bowser going to win this fight.
If I were doing this fight, I would've done Archie Robotnik vs main canon Bowser. To clarify which Robotnik from that comic series, the later one that ended up being much worst. Now that's my ideal version of this fight in a nut shell. Either way, this is going to live up to the hype. I can't wait to see the episode soon.
