Black Clover
Originally I was going to start out slowly to introduce things. I personally felt that would've been disrespectful to it's main character Asta. I strongly felt this was the next Bleach. I know a lot of people view Jujutsu Kaisen as that. Black Clover to me was way better in comparison. It's not often when an manga series gets transferred.
Black Clover used to be written at the same manga company as many popular Shonen manga series. The author couldn't keep up that led to the transfer. Officially it's a lesser known manga company from the big one he came from. During the few years of it's run. We're currently waiting for the final chapters right now.
The author would release a few chapters together over a few months period. I'm used to this because of Berserk had very notable waits for chapters. The story was getting rushed before his transfer. Although from that period of chapters I still ended up liking to a degree. I figured to get some of this before talking about exactly what is Black Clover?
On a more sad possibly depressing note. The author currently going through a difficult time. His family isn't doing well with an childhood friend passed away. I think it's becoming more obvious he wants to finish the story soon. Hopefully before something else bad could happen. I wanna say Yuki Tabata earned my respect with this story.
Now I feel better to talk about Black Clover. It's a story about a young kid whose born without magic. A world filled with magic users making him an outcast. His name is Asta with the dream of becoming the Wizard King. By now, many Shonen franchises has a similar dream. Like Monkey D. Luffy wants to become the King of the Pirates.
Black Clover is essentially a more medieval magic Bleach. There's some strikingly strong similarities to Bleach I couldn't ignore. Asta has some huge similarities with Ichigo Kurosaki. A huge part of how brigades are set up is similar to the 13 Court Guard Squads. Black Clover does differ in many ways from Bleach.
I simply love the real twist being this character lacks magic. Yet he ends up getting access to anti-magic. Which ends up being a truly scary thing in the right hands. Asta is proof you may not be born like everyone else. At the same time, if you're willing to work hard for your goals. Then in due time you could become a respectful warrior to the kingdom.
Asta does become an knight in a rather interesting brigade. I'll be honest, I'm not crazy about the rest of them. I didn't expect to really prefer the Black Bulls that much. Black Clover does have some huge twists you won't see coming. I am excited to eventually see the rest of the ending myself. A lot of rememberable characters on the way.
Black Clover is a story you could quickly get behind. The underdog that's blowing away people's expectations is exactly what Asta does. I know some people are quite harsh even before the story's transferred. I have seen worst rushed story arcs coughs Jujutsu Kaisen. I do see the potential of Black Clover.
You're getting a rather unique take on the concept. So many similar stories has the main character with higher than expected magic potential. Yet we got a guy who rather directly fight his enemies regardless what they could do. Not only that, this story even made some magic types more interesting as well. There's some amazing depth to that especially later on in the story.
I felt Black Clover deserves a little more respect. Especially if it ends up with a better ending than My Hero Academia or Jujutsu Kaisen respectively. I was even surprised how much Bleach inspired this!!! Yes they do cover the other nearby countries. I also liked they made training essential in the story. Black Clover felt like Bleach while more of it's own thing.
Obviously not just a Bleach rip off with a cheap coat of paint that's it. The story gets a little deeper than expected at times. The action with many fights being very destructive. Let's be honest, you expect places getting destroyed. You also expect people tanking or getting sent flying from blows. Throwing in complexity with several types of magic.
It's not Naruto's techniques repetitive but it does come close sometimes. I also wanna say the drawing during some of the craziest battles were mind blowing!!! This is a story that delivers on epic showdowns. It also delivers on many critical twists as the story goes on. Black Clover made Asta's journey a rather unique one at that.
This guy will never back down no matter how grim things seems to be. I know some people compared Asta to Dragon Ball's Goku. But he's way more like Ichigo than anyone else. I actually could see an crossover with these two being very awesome!!! I never said it was Jump Force lol. "Oh you're serious!!! ha ha!!!"
Black Clover was an outside the box idea. Some stuff you could expect may show up in the story. I am trying to not give direct spoilers. I will confirm Black Clover is a reference to Asta's grimoire. You would be surprise all the stuff Asta pushed through. I also wanna give my thoughts on how I think his story could end.
I don't have any inside information whatsoever. I do have some rather interesting ideas though. The first idea is he won't be allowed to become the Wizard King. Which may upset a lot of people before they fully reveal what's in store for him. They might create a new third king position. There's currently two king positions for the Clover Kingdom.
You got your usual king, I never cared for the guy. You also have the Wizard King. Whose suppose to be the strongest magic user in the kingdom. I believe this third king position could be meant for the underdogs like Asta. Regardless of their obstacles, their incredible determination. Eventually earning that position could be a nice reward.
The other realistic possibility is Asta gets offered to become the new captain of the Black Bulls. Let's be honest, the guy beneath his captain doesn't want his job. His captain does depend on Asta a lot as well. He virtually like a father figure to him. An handful of characters including Yami is similar to Bleach's Kenpachi Zaraki.
I highly doubt Asta be given his own brigade. He ended up bringing them together in a way no body previously had. I wouldn't be surprised if the author went this route plays on that. I do believe some last major twists might leave some rather mixed reactions from people. The Black Bulls are like an family more than anything else.
I do plan to read more manga series. Both finished with not many ongoing manga series. Right now I wanted to stick with four ongoing manga series that's all on the verge of ending. I'll be mixed emotions myself when the story is over. On one hand, I felt I'm going to enjoy the ending. At least more than a lot of people.
On the other, I still want more of the franchise. I'm sure there's some possible room to continue something in some way. It doesn't even need to be an sequel. It even could've been a surprise spin off story that eventually connects to the main story. Black Clover quickly left a huge mark. I actually see it as an unique gem of a magical action adventure story.
It's notably more about the action. But I do like how it goes about the adventure aspects. I don't wanna say this suddenly made stuff like Harry Potter franchise look bad. We all simply have different taste in things. I particular an swordsman main character in these style stories. A major reason why I liked Sword Art Online shows as well.
Black Clover brings so much to the table. It may not be the greatest manga story ever written. It's far from some of the worst I heard off videos as well as websites. It felt more like the right people would enjoy the story a lot. I love when some of the complexity in the story telling shows up. This is far from a rather uninspired magic story.
You would be amazed how much I'm not revealing. The only way you're going to know is my upcoming review of Black Clover. Which will have a lot of huge spoilers. For the present, Black Clover was unlike anything I ever came across manga wise previously. I wasn't expecting how truly awesome things actually get!!!
