Largely Austin Powers franchise is a parody of anything spy related including James Bond. At the time of the first movie, there wasn't many decent parody movies. The genre was already in notable decline to begin with. You can only imagine the impact Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery caused!!!
It was a surprisingly a clever yet silly take on the spy genre. Several characters including Austin is a direct parody of James Bond characters. This might come as a huge surprise my favorite character actually is Dr. Evil. Whose a parody of Ernest Stavro Blofeld being Bond's nemesis. It's a similar situation to Dark Helmet in Spaceballs whose a parody of Darth Vader from Star Wars.
Some of the essential aspects of the characters they're parodying still present. Yet there's a few notable changes making them more likeable as well as harder to predict. Which was quite a challenge to do parodying Blofeld. Somehow Myers found a way to do it justice. The second movie brought in time travel.
Some of my favorite jokes were in that movie. The third movie was a rather unexpected parody of the bond film, Goldfinger. I also need to point out Myers plays a few characters. Fat Bastard possibly the most offensive as well as disgusting among them. Goldmember I felt was easily the strangest by far. Austin is a much less serious James Bond with extra good luck on his side.
I also gottta mention two newer commercials. I apologize if I might've already discussed the first commercial from General Motors Ad. Along with the more recent Verizon commercial has a few similarities not quite the same commercial. Both ignored Dr. Evil turned good at the end of Austin Powers in Goldmember.
Which means both commercials possibly non canon. But we get the more sinister version of the character everyone loves. It's nice seeing Myers to reprise the role a few times. Next year with Spaceballs: The New One coming out. It's a bit refreshing some of my favorite comedy franchises making a come back in some form.
I know some shows like Archer or particular episodes from American Dad! are the closest things to this. Sometimes you just can't beat the classics. It also was nice to see Seth Green to reprise the role of Scott Evil. Green is responsible for the show Robot Chicken. Whose also widely known being the voice of Chris Griffin on Family Guy.
I also know people going to be funny about them parodying legacy sequels. Scary Movie 6 didn't shy away doing that. I'm sure Spaceballs: The New One isn't going to either. Why should this upcoming Austin Powers movie do the same? Of course, we don't know if we would return to Scott Evil replacing his father taking over the organization or not?
There's a small chance we'll finally see sharks with laser beams attached to their heads!!! I mean come on you knew that joke was coming. They likely make a few Bond references towards the newer Bond movies with Daniel Craig. What's amusing is they actually gotten an alternate version of Austin Powers to be played by Tom Cruise.
Cruise is widely known for playing Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible series. I guess the Bond actors were busy doing other things lol. The alternate version that I personally found to be incredibly hilarious was Danny DeVito as Mini Me. It's a shame Verne Troyer passed away who played one of my favorite Austin Powers characters.
Mini Me went from the dark side to become one of the essential supporting good characters. Now I don't know if that was done as a parody of Darth Vader. Returned becoming Anakin Skywalker or not. I don't think the movie going to suffer by not having the character. This also could mean more Scott Evil or a surprising return of Fat Bastard.
When we last saw him, he loss a ridiculous amount of weight. What's next we're going to see an even skinnier version called Slick Bastard? The fact there's time travel they could have a little fun messing with time. Like if the present Dr. Evil doesn't know how to stop his son from taking over the world.
Then Austin gets the crazy idea of going back to the past when Dr. Evil still in control of the organization. Then having him ask himself the past version how to stop his son in the future. Of course, things going to get out of control. Another possible angle is there's a new villain not even the past Dr. Evil could compete with.
Just across three movies we went from deep into the earth to the moon then back to the world in the ocean. Two of which involved time travel to clarify making that even more confusing. So I would imagine if I had to make an educated guess. They could do a flying fortress still within the atmosphere of the world.
Depending who the main antagonist turns out to be. Which might include Number 2 I don't write these names lol. I think the grand scheme is a weather machine to manipulate the atmosphere causing natural disasters to happen around the world. Which is technically a bit too serious for the concept.
At the same time, they still have a lot of room to work with. Personally that would've been my concept for another Austin Powers movie. Another possible scheme could be full blown digital. At a point, the AI they planned to use to switch over money from any bank account in the world. Which would be directly parodying the Bond movie GoldenEye.
The AI goes rogue to become a digital doppelganger of Dr. Evil. Glitchy Evil who knows what name this thing could be possibly given? This would force both sides to join to confront a greater threat either has ever faced before. An AI capable of enlisting the biggest army within the entire world as if it were royalty.
I know it's been a little over two decades since the last Austin Powers movie. But legacy sequels became a notable trend. Sure there's a lot of people that wants another Austin Powers movie. Then there's the opposing side feeling it's going to doom the franchise. I strongly felt the actual video games done that just saying.
They also could reveal more of Dr. Evil's past that we don't know. Supposedly it's going to be more directly focus on him. Which is a rather interesting perceptive. I also felt they could do a distant cousin joke. Honestly, it's so easy to screw this up with time travel involve. I do think this deserves a shot.
They also could have Basil retiring but things kept coming up. He kept coming back to assist Powers joke. You know just like James Bond, Powers getting a new girlfriend. Unless they plan to stick with his previous girlfriend from the third movie concept. I believe even if the actor who played Random Task gets out of prison.
He's not going to be in this Austin Powers movie. The very last thing they want is allowing such a person into the movie. In fact, this even could cause people to openly spread bad word about the movie. I would prefer he doesn't return to the franchise. I rather have the Lucky Charms guy come back honestly.
They might do another Osbournes reference since Ozzy and his wife Sharon took part in a few jokes. I doubt Sharon would agree to return though. I am still expecting something getting fired then quickly appearing on radar joke. Myers also could introduce another character played by him.
There was a Netflix show called The Pentaverate. Which heavily referenced many Myers' movie roles. I really wouldn't be surprise that happens once again. Another possibility is they would have to fix time by returning being enemies to save all of time. I know that's a bit ambitious of a concept.
This also would mean the two brothers were always meant to be their greatest enemies. It's sorta like at the end of The Flash show on The CW. Barry convinced Eddie the two Speed Forces could work together. Regardless, I am hoping this Austin Powers movie happens. I don't know how long it possibly could be until it does happen.
Regardless whose the main antagonist always expect new henchmen. For Powers, new gadgets to use that's going to be even sillier than ever before. There's still some room left to work with. Especially parodying James Bond whose in a lot of movies. I still felt in many things of the genre, Austin Powers never truly run out of ideas.
