Chucky
For a lot of people the original Child's Play movie was their introduction to the character. I actually didn't see the movie until around my teen years on cable television. My introduction to the character was actually Child's Play 2. Which is still among my absolute favorite horror sequels as well as numbered 2 horror movies ever!!!
I do understand not everyone going to be afraid of Chucky. A lot of people don't take him being a possessed doll seriously. But his personality works amazingly well because of it. He was a serial killer that gotten gunned down. Before he died, he was able to transfer his soul into a Good Guy doll. Chucky's popularity was already quite high following the original movie.
In fact, Universal bought the franchise not long afterwards that still owning it today. Universal had a notable history with horror movies. It was a good business decision at the time. Brad Dourif truly loves being the character. He is officially retired from acting but refuses to let someone else play the character. Mark Hamill voiced two versions of Chucky.
He originally voiced Chucky in a particular Robot Chicken sketch with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He later voiced Remake Chucky in Child's Play (2019 film). Like original Freddy Krueger, Chucky often dropped funny one liners. Both so happened to wore striped clothing. Not to mention, both were serial killers before they became something else.
Now both of them are in Dead by Daylight. Despite actually being Remake Freddy in the game. Chucky is rather impressive for a short killer. He ended killed the President of the United States. At times, Chucky ends up being surprisingly relatable. A lot of times, when he takes people out. We're cheering him on the entire time!!!
Adding in Chucky show, Chucky been through all kind of situations. Sometimes you just don't know what he's going to do next? Part of the fun of watching Chucky causing chaos. His success led to more killer toy movie franchises to show up. None of them even came close to him though. The only Chucky movie I seen in theaters funny enough was Seed of Chucky for my birthday.
I was fifteen years old first seeing that Chucky movie. Bride of Chucky was among a few pay per view movies I watched years ago. If I recalled the same cable service I also first seen Leprechaun 4: In Space. My absolute favorite Chucky appearance in terms how he looks was Bride of Chucky. My least favorite without question was the disguised normal Chucky in Curse of Chucky.
Chucky has shown a lot of creativity with his kill scenes. Yes the show had a few huge kill like the famous Halloween Party kill scene at the White House. We even seen him as a ghost it was somewhat interesting. Personally I prefer watching him as a possessed doll. Then Cult of Chucky added in a spell splitting pieces of your soul into multiple bodies in this case more Good Guy dolls.
We already know how crazy things could be with one Chucky. There were times we seen multiple Chuckies. Late Season 2 ended that trend though. The Colonel whose among the craziest Chuckies stands out. A parody of a character in the movie Apocalypse Now. I hated the buffed up Chucky myself. Unless it's Uber Jason that surprisingly worked.
Buffed versions of slasher villains does not work!!! Chucky also worked with other people especially on the show. It's debatable whose more evil him or Tiffany? What I do know is he's more honest than her. He is widely known for his anger. This might come as a huge surprise for those. Who haven't seen the show, Chucky died a lot!!!
I can't name another slasher villain that died nearly as close as many times Chucky had. Yet he still kept coming back for more. For me, Chucky always been entertaining in some form. I will confess he doesn't necessary scare me. But he is a well written horror character. There's some depth into his character not a lot of people realizes.
Up to a point on the show, they kept doing flash backs revealing a large amount of his past. Some of which was somewhat touched on in Curse of Chucky movie. Chucky is proof big things does come in small packages!!! His creator always went big for the character. Similar to Damien Leone been doing for his slasher villain, Art the Clown.
I also haven't heard another slasher villain who cursed more than Chucky either. Chucky is a rather unusual take on the slasher genre in a few ways. Prior to the original Halloween, most slasher villains didn't speak. They also didn't give much personality. I guess we all can thank Freddy Krueger for breaking that trend.
Chucky doesn't care if he dies anymore as shown on the show. Due to the fact, most people doesn't know possessed dolls exists in that universe. Chucky gets away with a lot of stuff. Some of which is a rather difficult pill to swallow. Chucky can easily get away from being arrested or committed to a hospital.
This makes a lot of his actions even worst. He's like that spoiled brat you're forced to let him win. Chucky also made a lot of interesting appearances outside the franchise. Yes that would include video games like Call of Duty. Yeah I could imagine a possessed doll going around gunning up soldiers!!! Now I know this is technically licensed cosmetics not the actual characters.
Yes that crossover included Tiffany. Chucky also appeared on WWE as well as a few award shows. Chucky was among the huge horror icons from the late 80s. Also a precursor to how modern horror franchises gets around. Largely you got Chucky to thank for that. Chucky is so much more than a slasher villain.
Chucky is simply a villain character that works incredibly well. Even with the more questionable written stories like Seed of Chucky. He often steals the show in some way. Chucky always been my favorite character in that franchise for a long time. Of course, it meant a lot to me seeing the character in Dead by Daylight!!!
Hell even that one Halloween movie commercial. Where Chucky talking to Michael Myers was huge!!! I believe this was before Dead by Daylight. Two of my favorite slashers in a movie commercial I couldn't believe it!!! Chucky brought so much to the slasher genre over the years. You bet I wanna see the new Chucky movie soon.
Chucky is easily among the most entertaining slasher villains I ever seen!!! It's safe to say Chucky among the most popular horror icons Universal owns. Easily among the most recognizable today with the world constantly wanting more. You can bet this doll not done slaughtering anytime soon. Honestly, if he didn't exist I might've not been into slasher horror films as much.
Conclusion
Chucky is easily among my favorite killer toy characters in history. There's still a lot of possible angles haven't been done with the character. Assuming Dourif lives to do Chucky one more time in a movie. I hope this Chucky movie ends his legacy on a good note. Yeah what happened with Angus Scrimm from Phantasm: Ravager was inexcusable.
Also Chucky will always live on in some form. Technically with his daughter played an younger version of Chucky within flash backs. They easily could give her to become his replacement. Possibly the only person he would allow. Chucky is a character that truly works wonders. Always had some form of creativity making anything he's in rather refreshing from other horror franchises.
