As much as I like both these characters. They didn't properly research several aspects of Chainsaw Man. For example, power scaling wise actually goes to Makima. She was treated as a country level threat. Which does translate to fear empowering devils. We know this because the President made a controversial deal with the Gun Devil.
A notable amount of the Gun Devil as it turned out. But even this portion of the devil wiped out a lot of humans at a scary rate. The deal in question was if the Gun Devil killed Makima. Every US citizen would lose one year off their life span to the Gun Devil. It also heavily implied other countries viewed Makima the same way.
Late into Part 2 of the story we get to see two country level devils face each other. By the way, it isn't just their raw power that increases. No it's every stat that increases meaning Makima also held the speed advantage. Gojo wasn't even to Sukuna's full power when he died. Another critical mistake I kept pointing out to friends they heavily played on.
There's more to go on regarding Gojo in combat than Makima. I know some quickly jump on Gojo's speed. But surprisingly speed has virtually nothing to do with Limitless or his Six Eyes. The later being a trait unique to Gojo proven when Yuta was in his body. Essentially his eyes are incredibly sharp picking up such details most human eyes can't.
Makima by herself was easily out moving Pochita disguised as Chainsaw Man. Any variation of Chainsaw Devil among the fastest characters in that universe. Unfortunately for both universes, neither ever reached faster than light speeds. But Denji and Pochita were notably faster than Gojo. Even excluding late Part 2 stuff, both of them were incredibly faster.
They named the right characters regarding powers that affects minds. There's a few problems with using their own argument. First off, the devil in question took a lot longer to affect Santa Claus' hivemind. She was connected to a lot of doll bodies from one of her deals with devils. Gojo's Domain Expansion may overload your brain with information to the point you can't do anything.
He doesn't use his Domain Expansion often. He actually relies too much on Limitless. I'll come back to that with another huge argument. They also spice things up with Gojo being included with Makima's deal involving the Prime Minister. Makima connected to a lot more bodies than Santa. Gojo automatically save from his own Domain Expansion.
The only way you won't be affected by it is if Gojo allows you through touch like Yuji while facing Jogo. Going back to that controversial deal, a few million people's lifes connected to Makima. Even considering his Domain Expansion quickly overload a person's mind. This would be shared across a lot of people meaning Makima could still think or do things within his Domain Expansion.
She's also connected to many devils as well. It's true Limitless can counter majority of their powers. He still can't do much about Future Devil's foreseeing to Makima. Limitless is ultimately a defense system. A rather broken one at that. As long he believes he's in danger, Limitless remains activated.
This means the very moment he drops his guard. His enemies could take advantage of that flaw to beat him just like Sukuna previously done. Makima also being connected to animals. She also could've waited to ambush him using these creatures after he drops his guard. After using his Domain Expansion would be the perfect opportunity to do so.
Just in case anyone was wondering. They were correct Makima's Bang won't register as an attack to Limitless. There's another huge mistake they made regarding her chains to control people. It's true Gojo does have a method to get out of his brain washing. He still needs a day to do so that also somehow regenerates his brain confirmed while facing Sukuna.
The same method with the regenerate could be done a few times. But it's ultimately delaying intense heat related brain damage. If Makima lands a chain on him there's a huge chance the fight could be over. Yes he could avoid the chains to a degree. This ability isn't actually meant for combat. Gojo can't touch Angel Devil without losing life span.
What's sad about this is as long she has blood or people within that contract. She can easily bounce back like nothing happened. Again this is including him in the same deal. She could survive going the distance at many people's expense including Gojo's. Indirectly he's facing himself since his life connected to her.
It is possible to safely touch Angel Devil if you're wearing cloth. Unfortunately Gojo doesn't usually wear that. Makima also could use her crush ability to crush Gojo while also crushing someone else to death. The worst part is if she has people nearby. She easily could attempt the same move again. Makima is more of a strategist in comparison.
She also possibly a lot older than Gojo who died in his late twenties. We do know she was a member of the Four Horsemen. Another notable factor is if Makima can survive his Domain Expansion. He will be in a weaken state. Such abilities takes a lot out of jujutsu sorcerers. Also Makima could've used some devils to attack his Domain Expansion from the outside.
Thanks to Yuji confirming such a possibility. Hollow Technique: Purple is Gojo's strongest attack. It later was fired by Yuta who was in Gojo's body at the time. Sukuna was forced to tank the attack, he took some damage that's it. So we know comparing Sukuna to Makima, this attack wouldn't take her out.
Sukuna never came close to her level in power. He simply took some damage right before Yuta lost again. At best, he is multi city level character while she's more of a country level threat. A major difference in raw power. Considering her deal, even if she were weaker still survive. Let's be honest, the correct verdict is a matchup that's ultimately rigged in Makima's favor.
In fact, Gojo actually risks the very attack taking himself out with no way to avoid it. You got to realize how Makima connects to people is through chains that's spiritual. This means Makima going to be the last person to die regardless of the situations. Hell she even could in this special situation give the damage she's taking directly to him possibly.
The major difference is she isn't actually avoiding the attack. She may be tanking but that attack has a higher percentage taking out Gojo by default. Also even if Makima doesn't swap the damage to him. The more deaths Makima has, the closer his demise going to be. The fact she can keep coming back automatically starts the process over as long as she has people left.
Inevitably Gojo going to run low even with his fighting style. Makima has out smart some clever characters before. Sure both can quickly figure each other out. But Gojo ultimately lacks a kill method that doesn't directly or indirectly cause his own death. Makima is more of a strategist that played a much riskier game.
Makima using hand to hand combat held her own against Chainsaw Devil whose disguised as Chainsaw Man. It is possible if Makima gets around Limitless. She could put up a close fight despite Gojo having more of a move set meant for combat. Honestly, Gojo is too cocky for his own good. Which you really don't wanna be against Makima.
Verdict
Makima should've won
I know on the surface it looks like Gojo going to win. But after careful research with some tricky comparisons to make. Makima actually held the most critical advantages. Some of which Gojo himself lacked altogether. Makima's contract with the Prime Minister makes it easy for her to delay the inevitable a ridiculous amount of times.
I also wanted to say how deeply surprised I was. I don't wanna say they didn't properly understand Chainsaw Man the first go. I will confirm they were more accurate with Reze than Makima. Sometimes the more powerful character don't seem like it. Ultimately, Gojo relying too much on Limitless while not kept up his training was his downfall along with his cockiness.
I do like some Jujutsu Kaisen characters despite how disappointed it's main manga series was. I will confirm Yuta is my favorite JJK character. Denji from the start was my favorite Chainsaw Man character. Personally Makima should've face Kenjaku since they were more similar. Sure Makima had some strong similarities with Gojo.
Kenjaku had cursed spirits while Makima had devils could've been a rather unique concept. They were the main manipulators in their respective universes. Possibly more than a thousand years, we never found out how old Makima was. Makima can easily defeat him as well. End of the day, people wanted Makima vs Gojo that's it.
