First we got to talk about what they have in common? Both are shape shifting aliens that could blend in with humans as well as creatures. At their core they're are parasitic aliens. Now I can discuss how these aliens differ from each other. Officially The Thing is one mind that can control multiple bodies like a hive mind.
Parasyte aliens started life as worms that felt from the sky. Thus, there's a lot more of these alien creatures in the world. The Thing can fully assimilate with other life forms effectively overwriting DNA in the process. Parasyte aliens as worms force themselves through living beings' bodies to get to the brain. If successful they devour the brain effectively killing them while claiming their bodies as their own.
There's an handful of cases, they failed to fully claim a human's body like Migi. The Thing has more actual shape shifting to quickly alter itself on the fly. Parasyte aliens have their heads that shape shift to a degree. Either they do devouring or fighting that notably differs. Devour is like predators in the wild that waits until their prey gets too close to eat them.
If they're fighting they shape shift pieces of the head into a few tentacles with blades. They violently slashing towards prey or enemies while having battle IQ. The Thing can easily withstand bullets as well as piercing weapons while Parasyte aliens can't. It is possible for Parasyte aliens to have babies that turn out to be humans. Yes this was revealed in the actual manga/anime story.
It's also possible for some Parasyte aliens to mimic humans to improve blending in like Reiko Tamura. Another critical difference is The Thing prefers being in very cold environments. In vice versa, Parasyte aliens are around the world mostly covering Japan in the story. The Thing is vulnerable to fire as well as acid which are common weaknesses for shape shifting characters.
The Thing is mimicking other live forms while Parasyte aliens using their bodies. This is also why Parasyte aliens more vulnerable to things that can't harm The Thing. Despite that, Parasyte aliens has a notably higher body count that we know of. You are more likely going to run into them than The Thing. Some of this must be putting chills down some of your spines by now.
Parasyte aliens can sense each other over notable distances as proven by Migi. It is possible as a desperate attempt to survive. Some could escape the previous host to try going inside another living being. If failed the alien will die shortly afterwards. They are heavily depended on having a host to survive. Parasyte aliens can easily move faster than a human eye can see.
In many cases, the victims realized too late they're about to die within seconds. The Thing is more about going after members of a group in private while most Parasyte aliens doesn't care at all. There was a situation several of them took on armed humans killing a lot of them in the process with ease. Prior, on a daily basis murders kept showing up on the news.
Parasyte aliens are more prepare to fight for their lifes. Their true forms is notably tougher than humans. They got superior overall senses than The Thing. They really pay attention to nearly everything during intense fights at a scary fast rate. This also means if you attempt getting in close alone you'll die horribly.
Parasyte aliens prefer to keep enemies at a distance. They easily could rip you apart when you're too close. They also can easily defend against methods that could kill them as well. Parasyte aliens heavily rely on their tentacles during fights. Yes their tentacles can reach a couple feet from their bodies. Essentially you're facing an apex predator.
The Thing is more of a long term strategist while it depends which Parasyte aliens we're talking about? Most of them are like wild animals feeding off humans. Which is similar to Tokyo Ghoul with ghouls before anyone gets to say it. Parasyte aliens kept avoiding humans going to war with them. There's a few possible factors including fear that plays into that.
The Thing can differ in size with the smallest being microscopic it can survive. It also with enough mass can become a giant monster like at the end of The Thing game. The Thing arrived on Earth with a few teams found it's space ship hidden deep in the ice of Antarctica. It's unclear why Parasyte worms fell from the sky though.
Parasyte aliens have a similar personality. Yes some of them are in some powerful positions in the world. There's a secret group filled with them working together. Parasyte also knowledge about nutrition better than health experts. The Thing is more trying to survive while Parasyte aliens rather get rid of humans from the world.
Conclusion
I bet a lot of people didn't expect they were that different from each other. It won't ruin anything if Dead by Daylight gets both franchises either. I do think this might get more people on board with getting Parasyte there. To a degree, both stories play on paranoia. They easily could mimic anyone especially those close to you.
Easily two of the scariest aliens in fiction I ever heard of!!! Funny enough for vastly different reasons. The Thing is more unpredictable while Parasyte aliens more willing to go in for the kill. It's safe to say both alien species are rather intelligent. The Thing is only in one location while Parasyte aliens are around the world!!!
The Thing does more actual shape shifting to survive death or some rather unpleasant situations. Parasyte Aliens are more prepare for combat as well as quick kills. I never said anything about stealth either. The Thing is trickier to kill off while trying to survive an Parasyte alien notably more difficult. Shinichi with Migi up to a point were the only ones killing those aliens.
Parasyte differs plenty to not be a direct rip off of The Thing. More so than The Operator is to Slenderman respectively. The Thing is a terrifying alien in it's own right. The same also could be said for Parasyte aliens. I felt Parasyte aliens is a bit more terrifying though. They have everything you don't want The Thing to have.
