Yes there was a few Universal classic horror movies prior to both versions of Dracula. One of which being an earlier movie adaptations of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and The Phantom of the Opera. Most considers the later movie adaptations that's part of Universal Monsters to be the better versions. Otherwise I'm missing much prior to discuss.
Basically 1931-1956 with thirty classic horror movies. Universal really committed to doing a true cinematic universe years ago. We horror fans owe so much to this horror movie franchise. So many things wouldn't exist otherwise thanks to those movies. This is as retro horror wise I'm willing to go. I do think there's so much potential to make a crossover work incredibly well.
There's a couple recurring monsters everyone knows in the lineup. We have the Wolfman whose a famous werewolf character that's in a few movies. We also have the Creature that represents Frankenstein franchise portion of Universal Monsters. Gill-man whose an merman helped introduced terrors from the water in the genre.
Dracula being among the most essential monsters in Universal Monsters. There's a couple mummies as well as invisible people within the franchise. The Phantom of the Opera is a mysterious figure that plays an piano while wearing a mask. They also have Dr. Jekyll that does transform into Mr. Hyde in a crossover movie.
There's a few comedy horror crossover movies with the comedy duo Abbott and Costello that's part of the franchise. The Bride from Bride of Frankenstein gets an honorable mention. Yes some of these monsters crossed over with each other before Freddy vs. Jason or Alien vs. Predator movies happened. There's a huge variety of species that easily ties into Dead by Daylight.
Universal Monsters is still inspiring a lot of people today in some form. So many franchises is directly inspired like The Monster Squad, Goosebumps, Beetleborgs and many others!!! It's a shame Universal rushed attempting to do a newer take on the concept that quickly died. Sometimes you just can't beat the classics!!!
I also need to say so many great actors launched careers from these horror movies. The list of names is a bit on the long side to go through them all. But every single one in every role left such a massive impact!!! I really felt a lot of them helped made so many aspects of the genre what it is today. I am deeply thankful to every single one of them for that!!!
There's so many possible angles they actually could go with this franchise. I will discuss each possible separate franchise with a few other connected movies that could get involve. At the end I'll discuss the most ambitious take there is doing all of them at once. There's so much horror history to go around. Considering Universal has success with Chucky in the game.
I do think when the time is right they're going to possibly do Universal Monsters. Let's be honest, why the hell not do this crossover would be incredibly stupid. Especially when they have more than the usual amount of content to work with from most franchises they already pulled from. There's a few variations of cosmetics that will go a long way here.
Yes I do think it's worthy enough to become a full chapter with huge success for all parties. Universal Monsters is still heavily being discussed as well as rewatched today. Essentially every movie in the lineup are timeless classics that set up a path for most horror franchises to follow. I do believe so many people would drop whatever they're doing to play anything representing the franchise.
Dracula officially kicked things off with Universal Monsters. I wanna start discussing a possible Dracula chapter. Yes I am prepared to discuss how it differs from Castlevania chapter. There's a few actors that played the character in the franchise. A little fact not everyone knows, they shot two versions of the same movie on the same set.
The two teams took turns making their version of the movie. One of them representing what many calls Spanish Dracula version. This could help tie in more to that culture. There's a few possible vampire characters that could show up. Obviously the main focus is Dracula himself. He wouldn't have the ability to throw fireballs like Castlevania version.
He would have some hypotonic powers to lure in the survivors. I would love to see his coffin being represented in some form. He also can transform into a single bat. I know this may not sound as awesome at first. But he could be given voice overs that sounds like one of the actors that played the character.
Don't go in expecting notably violent finishers. But the possibility for those with some characters differs. They even could play off his Alucard disguise from Son of Dracula movie. Next up actually would be among my most wanted within the franchise Frankenstein!!! Just like Dracula, a few actors played the character in the movies.
In both cases, possible cosmetics representing those actors would be deeply appreciated. This also would include The Bride, Dr. Frankenstein and Igor to name a few characters. Dr. Frankenstein could become a survivor in the game. There were other notable scientists some being related to him in the movies.
Igor would work best as cosmetics in all honestly. Dr. Frankenstein didn't mean anyone harm when he created The Creature. I really would love The Creature notably having electricity going through him. I am hoping they give The Creature some voice overs especially recreating Boris Karloff's voice. Mummies would be a little tricky since there's two mummies in the franchise.
The franchise started with Imhotep played by the late Boris Karloff. The remaining Mummy movies had Kharis played by a few actors with Lon Chaney Jr. being a huge horror star among them. If the first mummy's name sounds familiar it should. The Mummy movie franchise with Brendan Fraser had the character in two of the movies as well as the cartoon show.
A true fact a lot of people doesn't know is majority of these horror characters came from books. But the concept for The Mummy started in the original Mummy movie. So many franchises has mummy characters since that horror movie. Personally it was a rather unique concept no one previously done prior.
Not only that, mummies were supernatural being undead magic users with some similarities to necromancers. In some cases, the actual lore more interesting than the mummies themselves. Here's the big monkey wrench out of the entire lineup. They kept changing whose was the invisible antagonist terrorizing people.
The concept of being invisible is truly terrifying. My first exposure to the concept was a movie called Hollow Man 1. The famous Kevin Bacon movie where he's the invisible antagonist such an underrated classic. I know at first this might not sound scary. Then you start realizing all the terrible stuff one could go if they can't be seen.
We started with a scientist that went mad with the possibilities in his mind. Another man whose brother condemned for murder not responsible for the crime he's accused of. He requested to be given the formula to turn invisible. I also want to point out I'm a huge Vincent Price fan. Of course, Price makes everything he's in something you really gotta watch.
They even done the concept with a woman. Which possibly was inspiration for parts of Marvel's Sue Storm's powers. An agent taken the same formula taking on the Nazis. Another man given the formula that doesn't turn out well. The last entry with the concept was a crossover I mentioned earlier. Some of them wanted revenge taking huge risks.
There's a lot of complexity when you try putting all of this together. I would love to see how they attempt recreating the famous invisible special effects in those classic horror movies. This by itself going to heavily impact the crossover. The Wolf Man who didn't actually start werewolves in the franchise.
Before that was Werewolf of London in 1935. A few years prior but The Wolf Man is notably more popular. He's a famous werewolf character played by the late Lon Chaney Jr. being the most recurring horror icon in the same role. Before a lot of actors done that, there was Lon Chaney Jr. with The Wolf Man.
For some reason, The Wolf Man kept getting movie remakes. I know the original movie was a major inspiration to the concept. Some people don't even realize how popular werewolves are today? A lot of people wants an werewolf among the killers in Dead by Daylight. The closest thing we have to that is Dracula's wolf form.
I should point out there's also She-Wolf of London. But no actual werewolf was in the movie. The actual concept more like Psycho 2 funny enough. Where someone goes out their way to make someone else insane. There's a little chance they might reference the movie. Otherwise, the main focus is going to be The Wolf Man hands down!!!
Obviously they want a full werewolf in the game!!! I do think they could do a lot with the character. They could give something silver that can't directly be used to kill him. But it would prevent the creature going after that for a little while. Silver being the one thing that can kill him. I always welcome killers with claws in that game.
The Phantom of the Opera had an incident that mess up his face. Some versions being notably worst than in this movie. He's more of a stalker around a particular location. Occasionally he's playing the piano for a good while. The concept heavily presented in pop culture over the years. To me, he's the least dangerous among the monsters for a few reasons.
It would be nice if a piano playing by itself showed up during matches. When he's chasing the survivors that suddenly affects the piano to make things more intense!!! I don't think there's much they could do than half a chapter route being the best. A cosmetics collection could possibly do a little better. But I still think the character deserves a little more respect.
Gill-man was among the last monsters introduced in Universal Monsters franchise. Some consider the concept a precursor to the original Jaws movie. A merman that stalks people close by the water. This helped gotten more people interested in several aspects of the concept. To me, this was among the most unexpected within Universal Monsters movies.
You might've noticed I haven't mentioned any possible locations for maps yet. To be honest, it vastly differs which portion of the franchise they're using? There's also the possibility to not include any maps at all. Which would be fine with so much other stuff they possibly get into Dead by Daylight. Going back to the comedy crossover movies, the comedy duo would be the survivors.
Abbott and Costello starred in a couple crossover related movies. Four of them with most of the monsters you expected to see. The Creature, The Wolf Man, an invisible man, Klaris (mummy) and Mr. Hyde respectively. Dr. Jekyll was a scientist that made a formula. Which caused him to transform into Mr. Hyde whose essentially his dark side.
Yes there's some amazing characters inspired by Mr. Hyde like Marvel's Hulk. Also was direct inspiration for The Nutty Professor franchise including Eddie Murphy films. This brought in revealing a person's inter self to people. Being among the most realistic forms of fears represented in this franchise. Despite it took a formula to cause a transformation being the fictional aspect.
Also assuming Wednesday chapter with Tyler Galpin as the killer a possibility. Some people might like the idea of more than one Hyde in the game. Especially in a few ways the two differs going to make rather interesting. I would be quite interested in seeing Mr. Hyde hunting the survivors. I personally wanna see the character wear the hat with the iconic sinister grin on his face!!!
These particular crossover movies brought in humor while maintaining some essential horror elements. Another possible way to view it is there's a reason why Seed of Chucky failed to capture that? Also for people that isn't into horror could find something to like from those crossover movies. I do think a lot of people could enjoy this portion of the franchise crossing over as well.
An handful of sequels have more than one monsters from the other movies. Yes that matters since it easily adds more fuel to the fire!!! It's difficult to pick just one survivor outside that logic. Most likely they pull as many classic horror monsters as possible. I hope we may get the first multiple killers chapter.
Yes there's a very huge chance they could be doing that here. They easily could break up the crossover into a few chapters with plenty of content to justify that route. Although that heavily would depend if the demand for it stays big enough or not? The most ambitious route is Universal Monsters chapter representing as close to everything as possible.
We're talking about thirty horror movies to pull from. A lot of iconic characters with several versions. Several related concept characters mostly Invisible Man portion of the franchise. Representing so many great horror actors that shaped the entire genre as a whole. Cosmetics easily be through the roof with plenty possible sick, cool ideas.
Plenty fan service to really bring in a lot of people at a scary fast rate. Especially big horror fans that would absolutely love this crossover to happen. Universal Monsters is something truly special to all of us. Even if you don't necessary like some or all the movies. You should still give respects to them for so many reasons.
Legacy skin cosmetics going to be in huge demand. If they could get in some of the most rememberable songs from the franchise. This would be a massive slam dunk!!! The chase songs heavily be inspired by some of those songs. If they could recreate any of those actors while voicing the monsters. I do think this should be easily among their most successful crossovers to date.
This has among the highest potential for success in Dead by Daylight. You literately have everything to make it into something truly unforgettable. Especially if Universal allows them to go the full distance with the concept. If it's not obvious by now this was a huge YES for me. We would be getting something old yet held up insanely well to time!!!
I also think Universal Monsters is going to vastly change the game. In a rather unique way that could help other crossovers work better than prior to the crossover. I felt that's the true strength of this crossover. We're placing bricks for some possible franchises that just isn't possible yet. This would really help speed up the process for some of those more ambitious crossovers that could happen.
I really do believe this crossover needs to happen soon. This would be a great one for their fifteen anniversary or possibly their twentieth anniversary at the latest. A lot of people wants the team go bigger on critical anniversaries. What's bigger than Universal Monsters in it's entirely? This would easily introduce a lot of people to the franchise as well.
Directly becoming among the best methods to properly get into the franchise. Universal Monsters might be a require taste for some people that's not into several aspects of retro horror movies. We're going even further back than what most be used to rewatching as retro horror movies. I'm also aware some of these characters a lot of people won't fully know or understand well enough.
Yes that would affect if they could get into the franchise or not. But if they give some of the movies a chance. Eventually they could find something they enjoy a lot within em. This in itself is what a true successful cinema universe looks like!!! All of it before CGI or more recently AI usage was a thing!!! Also back then it was acting over how pretty someone looks as it is today.
There's so many possible angles for moris. Especially if they do more than one monster for this crossover. In fact, if they do all the main monsters that's going to be literately an entire years worth of moris!!! Just in this one licensed chapter alone is mind blowing!!! I do think the team going to get very creative with the moris.
I also think they would make the game classic black & white. Yes I know a lot of people don't like that style. There was a time before color appeared in movies and shows respectively. I actually felt a lot of them stands out more in black & white. For me, it plays more into the atmosphere of these horror movies.
I also understand they chose to not include that style into Dead by Daylight as well. Universal Monsters at it's core going to be among the most ambitious works they ever done!!! Especially trying to nail the iconic aspects the fans still remembered heavily today. I really can't think of a big enough negative that could ruin the crossover either.
