Scary Movie (2026 film)
You can call it Scary Movie or Scary Movie 6 since it's the sixth movie in the franchise. I know the title was a reference to both Halloween (2018 film) and Scream (2022 film) respectively. To me it was a little better than Scream VII. It's better than Scary Movie 5 that's pure garbage!!! A lot of jokes I quickly knew the references..
A couple missed the mark with an handful I actually laughed. This is a spiritual sequel to the first two Scary Movie entries. From Scary Movie 3 to Scary Movie 5, the Wayan Brothers weren't involved. This was because of a shady move from the Weinstein Brothers to stolen the franchise. Indirectly they made a joke out of this in the movie.
Once again, Ghostface is the main antagonist. I didn't bother to count them all I'll let people watch late into the movie to see why. Some actors from the original Scary Movie showed up. I'm not talking about the ones you expected to come back either. An handful of actors from the first two movies came back. Two of them played different characters to a degree.
They parodied two of the newer Scream movies a lot. I am assuming the Wayan Brothers didn't like Scream (2022 film) and Scream VI much. I quickly gotten a new character named Tuesday being a composite of two characters actress Jenna Ortega played. In Scream franchise, she played Sam's half sister Tara.
On Wednesday show, she played Wednesday Addams. More recently, Wednesday being changed into a autistic character in things. It sorta works to get you more interested in the character. They also parodied Art giving children presents scene from Terrifier 3. Personally I would've went a little further with the joke.
The Wayan Brothers made it crystal clear. The movie was going to possibly offend everyone!!! They were not backing down in releasing this movie. I played some rather controversial video games mostly Postal series. I wasn't going to back down from watching this movie either. Scary Movie was more focused than Scream VII with slightly better overall pacing.
This might be a hot take Scary Movie was more creative with Ghostface. Comparing to Scream VII, I prefer how the slasher villain was used more here. Some of which I really didn't even see coming!!! But I quickly found out about a quick Dead by Daylight cameo in the movie. I figured they had to bring in Ghostface for that, you bet they did!!!
You can tell everyone that made this movie had fun. This wasn't poorly done like Scary Movie 5 not sorry!!! I also wasn't expecting they bring back a particular killing joke. In the original Scary Movie, Brenda was parodying Maureen Evans in Scream 2 scene. People jumped in killing Brenda while the movie was playing in the movie theater.
This lady quickly offends a few people on a train to quickly get stabbed. I also liked in the same scene, they reference several horror icons. I also couldn't help noticing one of the actress' eyes was very bright. Sorta like a doll's eyes quality to them. This was Cindy's daughter in the movie who had issues. I know this was more parodying the newer Halloween movies.
I won't spoil some surprise cameos but I didn't expect any of them. Some jokes shown in the trailers actually a little shorter than what was shown. No I'm not about to call that bad advertising. I do like a lot of the cover arts for this movie honestly. I'm more used to seeing Shorty with more of an afro. Although the actor kinda made the new hair style better than expected.
Don't go in expecting a movie that makes sense. If you haven't seen any parody movies. None of them truly makes sense otherwise so many jokes wouldn't hit the way they do. I recommend go in not knowing much of the movie before watching it. Thankfully you don't need to see the other movies. Scary Movie series does something strangely similar to D trilogy.
As in a rather unusual trilogy of horror games from Warp. D, Enemy Zero and D2 being that trilogy with each having a vastly different style. But an handful of actors are shared. Yet plays essentially different characters while maintaining parts of their names. I know that's rather confusing logic to take in.
Like Scary Movie 2 was more about haunted, ghost movies with some unexpected movies thrown in. Going back to the new Scary Movie, they went back to slasher genre. Just like the original Scary Movie because that's where it started. Some might view this a rather safe route. Personally this is them starting over while bringing the franchise back the way it's meant to be.
Let's be honest, Scary Movie 5 being such a train wreck was a good idea to do slasher genre again. Especially now some slasher horror movie franchises kept getting bigger recently. I also couldn't help noticing Lochlyn Munro who was in the original Scary Movie. He previously played a police officer in Freddy vs. Jason.
I am glad they didn't reference I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise much. Other than the famous What are you waiting for? thing. Which also was done in the original Scary Movie. I will be honest there isn't much I would criticize. No I'm not afraid of Marlon Wayans either. I heard he's gotten vowel over some people's reviews of this Scary Movie.
I was happy to see the legacy actors back together. I also was happy how they parodied a lot of these movies. Even the ones I haven't seen but I heard some stuff about. Scary Movie 2 was rushed a bit because of the Weinstein Brothers. I still ended up enjoying that movie a lot though. Originally I was going to criticize a particular joke late into the movie.
But after fully seeing the ending I'm fine about it. I think the ending's big message to Scream franchise is stop trying to reboot itself in newer Scream movies. There's some weird scenes I felt better not ruining for people. But trust me, they really were high when they made those scenes literately lol. You can tell I do like this movie a lot.
It may not be as great as Scary Movie 1 and 3. Even to a degree, Scary Movie 2 was slightly better in all honestly. I still think it's better than the two entries that came out before the movie. I always been a little weird discussing Scary Movie 4 myself. Scary Movie is a more modern take on the concept. Ultimately they want people to go in hoping to have a good time.
They didn't plan on people watching them like other movies that's boring!!! It easily would take away exactly the purpose why they made this movie in the first place!!! Scary Movie is a wild roller coaster that threw out safety within the first five minutes. Honestly, I had some fun watching this movie. I am curious to see what's going to happen in Scary Movie 7.
Also if you are easy to offend I can not recommend watching this movie. Almost two to three minutes top is something that's going to offend someone. I won't sugar coat they don't hate from the haters that wanted to stop this movie from happening. End of the day, they just wanna have fun that so happened to be done at their expense.
Conclusion
I doubt if the Wayan Brothers going to see my review of the movie. If they do I hope they share their thoughts in comments down below. Even if it's something small that's fine. They also revealed the next theme for Scary Movie 7. To me, it already sounds quite interesting. This could possibly be the craziest entry to date if it's done right.
Scary Movie movie concept
I actually have an idea for a future Scary Movie concept that could be a lot of fun to make. This also going to be incredibly weird as well as ambitious. Yet no one even bothered to attempt such a concept for a parody horror movie franchise. The concept I have is Scary Movie that's inspired by curses and granting wishes as the theme.
If you get the gang back together for this entry. Oh man the possibilities are truly going to be endless. Both easily could be parodied in several ways. This would allow creativity unlike anything the Wayan Brothers ever done before. I do think this could be a truly fun entry to make. Hell they could bring Samara Morgan from The Ring back as the main antagonist.
I also think with extra time to make the film. This would prevent the movie getting rushed a bit. I really do think it deserves to be made with such care. At least more than how the Weinstein Brothers treated the franchise. Honestly, this is just an suggestion feel free to take it or leave it. All I ask is if you decide to make it please go as ridiculous as you possibly can!!!
