I think I made it crystal clear I really didn't like the original episode back in 2011. I never expected a rematch would take a little over thirteen years to happen. A notable portion of my life waiting for this. It kinda felt like a dream to me. Now it's official Doom Slayer wins. I can say everything about the newer version way better.
It's not even close this is how it's meant to be. Much like the most recent version of Goku vs Superman episode. Despite being among the biggest stomps they ever done. They still delivered in giving us an fight animation that's fantastic. The difficult part was trying to keep things from going too one sided. Considering Doom Slayer is multiversal with Master Chief not even being universal.
Plus many critical advantages Doom Slayer had. The actual portrayal of both characters is way better. Originally Doomguy was done so poorly. Now he's exactly like he is in the newer Doom games here. Master Chief further showcasing his tactical mind. Cortana being involve was critical. Which was a weird thing to miss in the original episode.
The break down on both characters was beautifully, accurately done. Some can criticize some of the crazy numbers all they want. The fight song is among my favorites in the season by far. The verdict was a massive improvement from the original episode. Originally I felt the episode was too rushed it seemed.
Lacking some critical information that should've been in there. Thank god that isn't an issue in the newer version. I didn't want this for the newer fight animation like many people did. Although I really enjoyed it over the crappy original version. I always believed even back then Doomguy should've won. When I found out they are actually doing this rematch I was quite happy.
There's a lot of moments in the fight I loved. I will reveal the very moments that quickly stick with me. We gotten two iconic poses late into the fight. Master Chief quickly does his famous Halo 2 pose. You know on Halo 2 cover pose. They ended the fight animation in a rather awesome recreation of the original Doom cover.
There's also an grenade bounced off Doom Slayer then exploded afterwards. Indirectly a reference how he died in the original version I'm sure. Which I strongly question won't kill him back then. He fires a rocket to speed dash to quickly grabbed it. Then threw the rocket at Master Chief I loved that!!!
Now that's how you showcase Doom Slayer's true speed. I also loved the brief break from the fight. Both of them took on demons. This was a particular moment I'm happy for. I may not be an Halo fan anymore. I do still have some respect for Master Chief. Also he killed a few demons so that's something.
I loved the reminder of this fight takes place in Hell. I do question to a degree how two particular weapons cancel each other. Especially considering BFG-9000 can kill demons as powerful as Cyberdemon in a few shots. What I really wanted to feel with Spawn vs Ghost Rider I do feel here. To me it felt well worth waiting this long for them to redo that match up.
This was the true definitive version in every possible way. Virtually nothing left behind unless you count some questionable canon stuff on either side. Personally that's a small issue since Doom Slayer just way too much for him to handle. You can tell they really took their sweet time with this. A quick reminder for Doom fans regarding May.
Not only there's a new Doom game coming out. Doom Slayer with Revenant also dlc skaters in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4. Which might've lied about career mode yes I'm onto you guys at Activision Blizzard. What a great way to tie in that stuff. Eventually I could see either character coming back in a more fair fight.
Among the obvious stomp episodes this is easily among my favorite of them. I don't have much to directly criticize otherwise. This was a good recreation of both franchises. I also liked the same voice actor that's done Sweet Tooth voices Doom Slayer. This also among my favorite rematch episodes as well.
Let's be put it this way everything was done just right. I have little to no major questions left to ask. Most rematch episodes I'm fine with. The only exception being Cloud vs Link I have major issues with. I would say it rivals the new version of Goku vs Superman. They absolutely knock this episode out the park or should I say plain of existence here?
