Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics (2025 Xbox version) review

Hello everyone I'm XboxClown89, I finally gotten to play Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics. I just finished achievement hunting the Xbox One version. Which is also playable on Xbox Series X, which I played it on. I really gotta say a lot about this compilation. Even before going into the review, it deserved the golden standard among compilation games label.

Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics (2025)

Most versions of this compilation came out last year. It took a little longer for the Xbox version. They had to figure a way to get the compilation game to play on Xbox consoles. Not to mention today is a new free update for all these collection games. Yes that also applies to the upcoming Capcom Fighting Collection 2. A few facts before the actual review.

This is the entire original Marvel vs. Capcom series that's originally released in Arcades. You also get The Punisher the Arcade game to differ it from a few video games. X-Men: Children of the Atom and Marvel Super Heroes also included. This is actually the second Marvel vs. Capcom compilation game following Marvel vs. Capcom: Origins.

Which I owned a long time ago absolutely loved that. Well I loved this way more in comparison. Two games compared to seven games I'll take the higher game count compilation game please. This is technically a spin off among Capcom Fighting Collection series. The first Capcom Fighting Collection previously criticized not having any Marvel vs. Capcom games.

Personally I felt that was unfair of anyone doing that. Now you got all of them you can shut up. Despite being a fewer amount of games from the first Capcom Fighting Collection. You actually doing even more runs than that I'm not kidding. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 has fifty six characters!!! Yes you have to play through the game as all of them!!!

It's a similar set up to Capcom Fighting Collection as well Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle. Capcom Fighting Collection series is a spiritual successor to that. You get a lot of cool pictures including behind the scenes stuff. You also get every song within the compilation. They somehow made accessing hidden characters even easier now.

The only game with any confusion about this is Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter. You have to check everyone to see which slots has hidden characters. Two are in very obvious slots. You have to play the Japanese version to play the exclusive joke character. Whose actually among the roster despite having to enable the option to do so.

I was very surprised we actually gotten him. Don't expect Onslaught and Apocalypse to be playable in this. They are only playable in the PS1 ports of those games. Which weren't great versions to be quite honest. I do agree Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter is too similar to X-Men vs. Street Fighter. I was even happier we also gotten The Punisher game too.

I grew up with some lackluster ports of these games. Not a lot of people knows The Punisher had an Sega Genesis port. Well I grew up with that it was alright. It doesn't even compare to the Arcade version. But that's better than the PS1 version of X-Men vs. Street Fighter. You really getting your money's worth here.

If you absolutely love Marvel and Capcom. You really gotta buy this as soon as possible. I actually felt I do prefer this over the first Capcom Fighting Collection. Partly due to nostalgia for these games. But also they also kinda held up a little better I felt. Also you should get use to seeing a lot of characters in multiple games as well.

If you didn't like that about the first Capcom Fighting Collection. You aren't going to like it even more here. They absolutely nailed this compilation game. I even dare to say the best Marvel vs. Capcom game on Xbox consoles I ever played!!! Yes I do own both Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on the same console.

You aren't missing much even with what's removed from the games. I do have one major complaint regarding a particular ending. Just like Marvel vs. Capcom: Origins, this also screwed up Thanos' ending in Marvel Super Heroes. Originally he was the only character that's given a choice. Both options would give you different endings.

Now this was included just fine for two characters in Red Earth from the previous Capcom Fighting Collection. Why can't we fully get those endings I honestly don't know. Also like the other Marvel vs. Capcom compilation, it's Magneto dialogue playing as well. Other than that I didn't have any other notable issues.

I didn't even mind once again a very limited save system. You make one save across all the games. Not shared by the way meaning making any newer saves in another game overwrites em. The actual achievements were quite fun as well as a few challenging ones. I done the entire process with no online neither a second controller.

I did look stuff up I confessed to that. Otherwise I played to my heart's satisfied beyond words. I never seen any of these play this damn great in my entire life!!! This is among my absolute favorite Capcom compilation games ever!!! You are getting an entire collection that stands the test of time. You really couldn't ask for more than this!!!

I did do some research why this lineup. It's a bit of an interesting licensing situation. Originally Capcom went for The Punisher game. They decided to kept continuing the arrangement. Which led to all these Marvel licensed games. To clarify most of these are in a series. Roughly half of them are technically stand alone games.

Obviously this meant so much to me. Among the last compilation games I waited a long time for. They truly delivered such a great experience. If you're new to any of these you're going to have so much fun!!! This is the best Capcom Fighting Collection game I ever played!!! I know several groups are responsible for this slightly more for Xbox version.

You also now have offline versus matches. I am happy that's finally a feature in these. All seven games has online support as well. I do need to point out for The Punisher. If you wanna play as Nick Fury. Make sure on the options to set to P2 which is short for Player 2. It's not like most Arcade beat em up games I gotten on Xbox.

If you wanna know which three Marvel games I felt were hands down the best. Marvel vs. Capcom 1, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Marvel Super Heroes respectively. I do hope you play The Punisher as well. I personally enjoy Arcade beat em up games. There's so much fan service here it's ridiculous!!! This is what exactly was Konami for their TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection in a nut shell.

The perfect way to get into the series or play the games you missed. There's plenty of great surprises as well. The emulation is truly solid with the audio. The controls are mostly on point how you want em. This collection is in all honestly truly mind blowing stuff. Every single aspect of it is done insanely well.

Most endings are intact thank god. The intros are always a lot of fun to rewatch. I also liked the notable changes among the fighting game bosses. There's a lot of great stages as well. I should point out some of these licensed fighting games are 2 on 2 or in Marvel vs. Capcom 2's case 3 on 3 matches. I'm truly impressed all of this is virtually done perfectly.

Especially with Marvel vs. Capcom 2 having so many characters to choose from. Some of these final bosses are quite ambitious for their time especially Abyss. Who has three phase with each in their own health bar. Don't expect Marvel vs. Capcom 2 to have much of an ending. Just be thankful you're getting all those amazing characters!!!

The loading is almost non existence it's really done well here. You also get a move list that's a little confusing to navigate. You also get training mode for most of the games. For those that wants to get better at the games. I am so happy to finally play this myself. The bar for compilation games just kept getting increased because of several compilation games being that damn great!!!
