This blog entry will be covering the rest of the games from that experience. This won't be another comparison blog. Except comparing how I previously viewed things to how I view em now. I was quite happy to do this myself. I actually wanted to do this revisiting a couple years. I highly recommend all three of these truly amazing remastered games.
To clarify this isn't a newer review of these games. I just wanted to give my updated thoughts on them.
Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy (2017)
Spyro Reignited Trilogy (2018)
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled (2019-2020)
I played through four Crash Bandicoot games as well as two Spyro games. I felt I did improve somewhat playing Crash series. Back in PS1 era, it was among my favorite franchises. I actually been around all five PS1 Crash Bandicoot games. Obviously I was a Crash kid with very limited exposure to Spyro. Other than playing a demo, I once over a friend's house whose playing the original Spyro.
To say they're are the same is virtually comparing apples to oranges. Which is funny because Crash has orange fur lol. Spyro is more of an open world adventure game with some platforming. Crash is more over the top action filled platforming madness. Crash is notably much harder in comparison. Even the tiniest mistakes can kill you.
Spyro has notably much bigger levels in scale. You also decide when you wanna leave for the most part. Finding secrets is much easier in Spyro. In vice versa, Crash makes you work for everything!!! I personally prefer Crash characters more than Spyro's. Both offer a huge variety of locations. They also offer a nice variety of situations that happens.
Spyro is more of a story driven adventure. Then again, Crash truly has some amazing game play to make up for that. I actually prefer Crash boss fights as well. Not to say I didn't care for Spyro's. It's widely not consistent especially compared to Crash bosses. Both offer some great soundtracks you can listen to for hours.
Crash is notably more linear filled with some truly well hidden secrets. Spyro is actually more similar to the first two Banjo-Kazooie games. They allow you to fully explore the levels as if you're in worlds. I previously mentioned this for Gex 3. It felt like what was one Spyro level easily could've been three to four Crash levels combined.
Originally I didn't go all the way completion wise with Spyro Reignited Trilogy. Currently I officially done the first two Spyro games. I don't think I could do that for any game within Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy though. It's truly amazing two compilation games of remastered PS1 games. Easily destroys Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition.
I also can say that about Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. Now I know I already said more than enough about this game here. I really don't have much more to add. Other than I'm slowly getting a few stuff I never had previously. The biggest among of those is N. Trophy. Whose the last character I need in the game.
Achievement hunting Spyro Reignited Trilogy is way better. You really can't go wrong with any of these games. The developers really went beyond with each of them. I strongly felt since Crash and Spyro crossed over a lot. Why not call this Remastered Crash/Spyro Trilogy? Spyro with a handful of characters also among the roster in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled.
In a way things evens out for both former mascot characters. I would say my favorite three games are Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back and Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!. I felt all three of these had the perfect overall balance. I actually grew up playing the PS1 version of Crash Bandicoot 2.
I believe it was the first Crash game I ever played. For awhile I did favor Crash Bandicoot: Warped to a degree. Until I fully played both games a few times. I'm very sure my favorite main Crash game is Crash Bandicoot 2. I am deeply thankful to Microsoft finally putting these games onto Game Pass. I truly haven't been this happy in a long time.
Spyro 2 just felt like the right changes made it a must play. Not to say the original Spyro sucks. I actually prefer that over the original Crash myself. I slightly do prefer Crash 2 over Spyro 2 though. To be quite honest it was a rather difficult decision to make. Considering how great both of them are. Your favorites could easily differ though.
Crash 5 canceled or at least that's what I was hearing. No official word on Spyro regarding he was suppose to be in that canned Crash game. One of the teams responsible for this possibly reviving Banjo-Kazooie series. I felt they are going to knock this out the park. Especially if it's done like these games. I felt it's possibly remastering the first two Banjo-Kazooie games.
The big issue with that is both of them already received HD ports on Xbox 360. Which also through Rare Replay along with Perfect Dark, the good one!!! Back to this, I may consider looking into a few newer Crash games as well. Mostly Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time and Crash Team Rumble respectively.
I felt Activision Blizzard should've split the focus between Crash and Spyro. I don't think The Legend of Spyro trilogy coming or any of the later main Crash games for that matter. Hell they easily could make newer games even spin offs to keep things going. It's quite obvious they're too focus on Crash. The kid me would've loved that.
Spyro does deserve much more respect than that. I would like the character to fully come back some day. Maybe I'll play the newest Spyro game it depends on things. I'm more likely going to play the newer Crash games in comparison. Honestly, which you ultimately prefer depends on things. Either you want a more lay back adventure or prepare to die a lot it's your choice!!!
