Obviously everyone has different taste in things. It's even possible you may dislike all five games. Just like you actually love these games. The original Metal Gear was a mind blowing game for it's time. Legendary game developer Hideo Kojima came up with a surprisingly complex game. Prior to this, the world was more use to games killing enemies.
He threw in a twist you may not have enough ammo. You also had to get through trying to not cause alerts. This led to quite an unique experience. You had to use your wits to get around many situations. A lot of key cards to memorize where to use them. You use the codec to contract with a few characters. The story at first appeared simple until the twists started coming.
By the end of the game, everything you thought you knew was turned all upside down. You play as a young Solid Snake that's exploring a few locations. Here's a game that was previously thought to be impossible for MSX2. A lot of tricks you could do in the game was clear proof of fantastic game design. The audio as a whole is so iconic for that era.
I confess with a lot going on my end. I'm not in their patron program. I decided to write this to convince people to possibly vote for the original Metal Gear. Although it's a little indirectly led to a once truly fantastic, legendary game franchise. Considering the questionably designed NES counterpart game with it's own sequel.
You wouldn't have some of the finest stealth video games in history if this never existed. This by itself truly speaks volumes for it's legacy. You get to rescue a lot of people including the legendary Gray Fox. You also got a few floors to explore. Some rather unique puzzles I'm still impressed they pulled off. Some of the most intense boss fights in history of the genre.
Metal Gear is a game that completely changed the genre as a whole. It also changed how some people want to experience games with guns. There's a lot of people that prefers only using them when they need to. You also wouldn't have Assassin's Creed, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell, Syphon Filter and Hitman without it.
The original Metal Gear is a true master piece. Despite not looking like much on the surface. Once you get beneath that wow this game truly delivers. You get such an amazing action stealth game. I also liked some boss fights forces you to take them on in particular ways. There's a good variety of enemies through out the games.
Obviously a lot of the bosses stands out. Very few were rather unexpected during an 1st playthrough if you didn't use any guides. You have a lot to remember as you're playing this. The journey getting to the end is just satisfying enough. Sometimes you may wanna replay the game again. I know the port I played had a boss rush that's well designed.
Konami nearly went bankrupt until the success of Metal Gear on NES true story. I won't get into the whole Hideo vs Konami situation. I will say this game was the beginning to Kojima's legendary career in gaming. I also gotta mention this ended up getting it's own direct sequel on the same computer system.
Which was truly mind blowing easily one of the greatest Metal Gear games I ever played!!! The original Metal Gear is essentially to gaming as a whole. In a game with the odds stacked against you. The challenge can differ many ways. You could play barely killing anyone but take longer or kill everything to run through it faster?
This game also allows you to make enemies unconscious a few ways. You even could sneak around inside a card board box. A recurring joke within the franchise. Translation can differ depending on which version you're playing. To clarify, there's a few translations for the original MSX2 version. The newer versions updated the character imagines within the codec.
Metal Gear is in a rather huge map connected by locations. Somehow Kojima found a way to make it work wonders. Essentially an 8-bit computer game pulled off this much!!! He's given us such an iconic stealth game hero. Every major location truly stands out. A lot of the appeal is talking to other characters.
Either upon rescuing them or through the codec. This game surprisingly has a lot of personality. Every weapon you get to wield all differs just enough to help make the game play exciting. One of my personal favorite weapons is a remote control rocket launcher. Easily among the most unique aspects of the game play.
You also gotta memorize trap locations as well as how to avoid them. Which can get rather tricky from trivial and error. Metal Gear will rough you up to a degree. Once you figured out a lot of stuff it becomes a fun action stealth game. Even with a lot of back tracking somehow it remains fun. The original Metal Gear truly deserves to be in that preservation program.
No disrespect towards Thief Gold, Thief II, Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive and Commandos Ammo Pack respectively. I'm sure those were such amazing classic games as well. I just can't deny everything that happened because of this classic stealth game. The original Metal Gear led to so many things since it's release.
Metal Gear is a game you must play before you die. Especially if you're a huge Metal Gear fan that surprisingly never played it before. I felt a lot of those people are in for quite a surprise. Yes this MSX2 game held up amazingly well to the test of time. I strongly felt this game should win the poll soon. Metal Gear is so essential to the gaming industry it deserves that spot.
