Unfortunately I previously discussed the very game I voted for. Resident Evil Requiem with a lot revealed since then. So here's what I'll do to make up for this unusual situation. I will be linking my previous thoughts blog on the game. I'm just as hyped for the other two games I voted for in Golden Joystick Awards as well.
Here is a link to that blog I written a few months ago down below...
Before I add further thoughts onto that Resident Evil game. As a bonus I'll reveal my thoughts for games I considered voted for in the same award. I'll even reveal my prediction of what could be the Top 3 Upcoming Horror Games for the award? A very high chance this is exactly going to be the games for that.
Resident Evil Requiem
I gotten seen to a lot of trailers including game play. They stated the game to be as long as RE4 remake. Expect a lot of hours into one run. I absolutely loved how Capcom going about reveal things. The most recent surprise is Leon actually in the game!!! Now we know we got two protagonists to play as.
Now as a huge RE fan I'm really hyped to play this!!! We're going back to Raccoon City as Leon. Suddenly everything with the character went full circle. This is going to be a very horror driven game. Which in all honestly they can do a lot with that. Some might not like it since this would affect some aspects of the game play.
Although I still think Capcom going to knock this out the park. They're going in with such a risky concept. This could easily become a serious contender to win Game of the Year awards. An handful of Resident Evil games has before. Resident Evil being one of the absolute biggest names in horror gaming.
Many people including myself expect to be totally mind blown pun very intended. Resident Evil Requiem is going to be an RE game the world never forget. Yes I'm more upset GTA VI once again won the same award again at The Game Awards. I really hope RE9 blows it out the water pun very intended!!!
Introduction to upcoming horror games I considered voted for
Now there's an handful of other upcoming horror games I'm also quite hyped for. Sadly unlike Golden Joystick Awards only get one vote. Of course that vote had to go to Resident Evil Requiem. Considering the amount of nominees being a lot. I only plan to cover the ones I have the most interest in.
To be fair, I did look into all of them. It didn't really change much to be honest. But a few of them are somewhat on my radar though. I was very surprised to see Silent Hill: Townfall nominated. I kinda forgotten about it. Routine is currently the only one out right now. I had a little interest in OD from the legendary legend himself Hideo Kojima.
I'm sure majority of these horror games going to be decent. I can't say much about the games clearly sequels or some form of a continuation. I haven't gotten into either of those franchises in question. For me I had a good idea which horror games to eye up. Now I'll reveal two horror games outside my predicted top 3 horror games for the award.
Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly Remake and Halloween respectively. Fatal Frame II is a remake of a classic PS2 horror game. You play as a girl using an unusual camera against spirits. I been told the original game was absolutely terrifying. Resident Evil started the recent remake horror games trend.
No I never played any Fatal Frame games. What I do know of the games. They're usually done in third person while exploring. Using the camera is done in first person. Some of the ghosts I seen from footage sticks with you a long time. You never truly save just an camera to defend yourself. This was before Japanese culture notably to start showing up in video games too.
I felt in the right hands this easily could be a strong contender for Game of the Year award hands down. It's heavily Japanese horror inspired that creeps people out. Not to mention, the visuals back then were absolutely amazing. Going by what I did see of the newer version. I do wanna give this Fatal Frame game a try.
My brother possibly more hyped up about Halloween than myself. One of the companies involve with many licensed horror games. Including Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game. Obviously it's going to be heavily sticking with the original Halloween look. Which can be quite risky in many ways.
This Halloween also going to have an single player campaign. We don't have much to go on right now about that. I just hope it's more than Friday the 13th: The Game with a particular mode. There's a huge chance it'll suddenly stop following a year maybe a little less. It seems these newer licensed horror games can't stick around for long.
I hope we can play both sides in the campaign. Obviously in the multiplayer it'll be similar to those games. They also done Predator and Ghostbusters respectively. I meant it would be cool to play as a victim to survive. Situations Myers ends people in. On the flip side, hunting people down as Myers. I'm sure there's going to be a lot of kills.
I'll be honest, the most recent Halloween trailer is a bit disappointing. Currently I'm placing Fatal Frame II higher. I see the potential in Fatal Frame II. In comparison, I'm worried Halloween isn't going to be worth the wait. Halloween constantly has a notable history not being consistent. There's also the question which Halloween timeline they're focusing on?
Most of them starts with the original Halloween. Majority of them is a few Halloween movies each. Excluding Halloween 3 since they had different intentions. Before the fans forced em to bring back Myers. I do think Myers deserves to return. He also deserves a much better video game as well. It just won't be on Hellraiser's level from what was shown.
Let's be honest, even if it were. I still wouldn't place Halloween in the Top 3 prediction. Even if it were to make the cut officially. There's absolutely no way it's beating out the other two games. I know to a degree my standards seems a bit high. Well licensed horror games usually aren't great. It's rare when actual decent ones comes out.
I felt Fatal Frame II could possibly win a few awards. I highly doubt Halloween going to win one. Even at Fangoria Chainsaw Awards honestly. I know what some people are thinking. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (2023 video game) previously won that award. I may not voted in this year's Fangoria Chainsaw Awards.
Unrelated: I'm so happy Screamboat won their Best Public Domain Resurrection award. If I had voted that easily would've been my vote. Keep in mind, all three horror Popeye movies also nominated. Considering I'm mentioning that awards show. I should point this out because it's a weird kind of interest to me.
I did vote in last year's, I was deeply upset by that. I voted for Resident Evil 4 remake. Now that was a truly fantastic horror game!!! Personally I felt they rigged it for that licensed horror game to win. Earlier this year they ended support for the game. I'm happy that Texas Chainsaw Massacre game dead.
My predicted Top 3 Upcoming Horror Games for the award
Along with Resident Evil Requiem which I also predict going to win the award. I don't think this going to be easy for the jury to decide though. In fact, I'm expecting the jury to lose their minds over how challenging it's going to be? This could even be an showdown no one actually expected to see. I'm not just talking out my butt here.
Facing Resident Evil Requiem will be Silent Hill 1 remake and Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival respectively. Considering how well Silent Hill 2 remake done. In fact it previously won Game of the Year award in their awards show. More recently, won Best Video Game award on Fangoria Chainsaw Awards.
It's safe to say Bloober going to truly bring the older Silent Hill games back. We currently don't have much to go on. What we do know is this team deeply loves the franchise. If Konami lets them finish the game. I do believe Silent Hill 1 remake is going to be a strong contender. Not only that, Silent Hill 1 remake could even be among the scariest horror games in a long time.
The same also can be said for Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival. One of the companies involved made Evil Dead: The Game. Which had some success before it went out the way it did. The trailers really doing an fantastic job. They are using the original Cenobites was a good idea. I already know since Bradley a close friend of Barker.
He'll reprise the role for this game. He previously done so in Dead by Daylight. An statement from the team they want to go as risky extreme as inhumanly possible. They wanna make the game truly down your spines chill. This should be one of the greatest things in Hellraiser's history. A huge surprise it's meant to be an single player game.
Which is a great idea to help bring the franchise back. This Hellraiser game is going to give the world nightmares. I also could say that about the other two finalists as well. I highly expect these three horror games going to change the world. In my mind, I really can't say any other nominated upcoming horror games getting in the top 3 against these three horror games!!!
We got two of the biggest names in horror games. We also got one of the most difficult to watch horror movie franchises. This should be pure nightmare fuel at it's core. Absolutely the way they intended it to be. Personally I really would love to see the jury's reaction to this myself. This is a nearly impossible task to complete.
All three of them could easily be the Horror Game of the Year. I know I'm putting a lot of faith on my own prediction. At the same time, what else worthy enough to be in that top 3? If you answered nothing you are correct. I really can't wait to see The Horror Game Awards myself very soon. I'm going to root hard for Resident Evil Requiem to win this award.
For those impatient to skip to the end. I predicted Resident Evil Requiem going to beat out Silent Hill 1 remake and Clive Barker's Hellraiser: Revival for this award. To be honest, I really wish I could've voted for all three of them. There was plenty of nominees to justify that. Not necessary cheating either just the within rules of playing it safe.
Then again this is meant for horror games. Not having that safety net would've defeated the entire purpose lol. So I guess the joke is on me after all. Honestly, I really hyped to watch this awards show tomorrow. Let's see how many of my votes helped in picking the winners? In either case I hope those that took the time to read all of this thank you and I hope you enjoyed.
