Here's a link to that Gex blog down below...
Gex Trilogy (2025)
I never seen any of these Gex games play this good. There's some cool bonus stuff including an interview with Gex's English voice actor Dana Gould. Effectively most tapes in Gex 1 are pointless. Thanks to the new saving system. Which works better than it's rewind feature. I'm still not used to using the rewind feature.
It's not like most games I used it in. Where you can instantly start playing again after preventing whatever happened. This felt like you need to wait a little longer than expected. This kept throwing me off while playing the games. I also noticed some weird animation glitches. Nothing that broken the compilation game though.
I do like there's three save slots per a Gex game. You can't overwrite between them is a good idea. The controls works for the most fine. I did notice some slightly input delays or not properly registering my commands. Otherwise it worked well enough to play all three of them. The loading as a whole was perfect.
All three Gex games were pulled from PlayStation 1. I'm not used to playing an compilation game filled with cd based video games. Officially considering Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2. This would be my second cd based compilation game I played. I even felt in some aspects this was better honestly.
You aren't missing much except stuff Gex 1 had on 3DO. Which was mostly minor with the biggest missing feature being it's save feature. The achievements is a mixed bag. For Gex 1, I felt those were well selected. However I was disappointed with majority of them. For the sequels mostly being getting several amounts of remotes.
Of course, you also beat the games. It's just a huge disappointment. All the possible achievements we could've had instead. Essentially this ended up being a rather easy achievement hunt. I also notice especially with the sequels. Some of the animations moves a little faster.
This could throw you off at times. I also had some enemies not able to get any closer to attack me. I wasn't on a platform or anything to not be on equal footing either. From what I played they did a solid job with what they had. I know people criticize the hell out of this compilation game. Honestly, I actually enjoyed it a lot myself.
You may get more voice overs in all the games than you expect. Which might be annoying for some people. It's not Bubsy or Awesome Possum level of annoying though. Obviously, this is my new favorite Gex game. I mean how could it not be? You got the Gex trilogy with some good improvements.
I didn't even mind paying full price for this. This was a couple days before Steam's Winter Sale started. Gex Trilogy earns a spot in my GOG collection soon. This is exactly how I wanna play these games!!! I don't get excited for platformers like I used to. But this was different because Gex was in my childhood to a degree.
The fact they packed all of this content together. I'll give Limited Run Games respect. I'm thankful they brought Gex back. I was truly happy to play a better version of Gex 1 and Enter the Gecko. I previously been around Gex 3 on PS1 a long time ago. Honestly, I don't care a lot of jokes were already dated.
I was simply happy to have Gex back in my life again. Easily among my favorite platformer compilation games I ever played!!! It may not be perfect but it never was intended to be in the first place. We got such a wild former mascot character. Gex Trilogy was a lot of fun. A huge variety among the levels kept it interesting.
Gex Trilogy possibly set my standards for any future Gex games a bit too high. This is exactly what I always wanted Gex wise. I felt they absolutely nailed it!!! Gex Trilogy was a decent compilation game. I know some won't like the price it's going for. But considering you're getting three PS1 games in one package with bonus stuff.
I felt that's a good deal worthy enough for the gecko. Gex Trilogy brought back some good memories. I waited since 2023 to play this. I'm glad the long wait ended up being well worth it. I may be funny to get anything with either Limited Run Games or Square Enix. I still wanna say thanks to both of them for giving us back Gex!!!
