East Blue Saga
1. Romance Dawn Arc
2. Orange Town Arc
3. Syrup Village Arc
4. Baratie Arc
5. Arlong Park Arc
6. Loguetown Arc
Of course where every great stories we gotta start from the beginning. A young boy named Monkey D. Luffy sets out to become a pirate. Majority of the First Saga is getting most members of his crew. All of these events took place in East Blue. The actual globe design of One Piece takes some time getting use to.
You can tell Luffy already making a difference in the world. We're in the beginner portions of a pirate crew's journey. You also will notice many things will get surprising references as the story goes on. East Bue Sagas as a whole is a great beginning point for such a long manga series. Still difficult to believe the author originally planned this to be done in five years.
A large amount of this was readapted through the live action show with some clever changes. This is among the shortest arcs despite every saga having huge amount of chapters. More than you would expect from other Shonen manga franchises. Yes this saga instantly became timeless. You already know there's something amazing about such a story.
Alabasta Saga
1. Reverse Mountain Arc
2. Whisky Peak Arc
3. Little Garden Arc
4. Drum Island Arc
5. Alabasta Arc
I felt this was the beginning of a particular ongoing theme. Luffy's crew ends up taking on an bounty hunter organization. This is also where there's much more going on than it appears to be. Originally started that also became an ongoing theme within the series. Luffy's crew saved an country from a tyrant.
The entire saga possibly shaped the franchise. Everything about it led to the story continuing to go much deeper. We are talking an war with surprising depth to the story. Somehow it works amazingly well despite things. We also get to see many things more clearly as well. The crew made it into the Grand Line.
Which has an unusual entrance method that easily could destroy ships. This isn't quite you congratulate from high school yet. You still have to complete the 8th grade. In other words, Luffy's crew still had so much to learn. The entire saga really stands the test of time. Honestly, a fantastic follow up saga. Plus more stuff from this saga later came up in the story is such a great sign.
Sky Island Saga
1. Jaya Arc
2. Skypiea Arc
One of the weirder sagas by far. We get to see the difference between bounties. Just not the way you originally imagine it. Some select stuff also came up later in the story. Which some having rather surprising connections to the greater overall theme. Ultimately, Luffy's crew found a way to reach an island that's in the sky.
Yes you heard me correctly in the sky!!! Which also could easily break ships. This is also the most we see of these islands in the series. Obviously, how things goes is vastly different from those beneath their island. Honestly, it was a rather unique concept to go for. We knew they often explore finding more islands.
We never expected one of their next islands at that time going to be an sky one. This also continued what started with Alabasta Saga. Luffy's crew even changing things high up in the sky. Suddenly they were truly something else. I also felt some aspects really helped them in later portions of the story. They do go back to the sea following everything to continue going for their dreams.
Water 7 Saga
1. Long Ring Long Land Arc
2. Water 7 Arc
3. Enies Lobbies Arc
4. Post-Enies Lobby Arc
This is a rather huge deal to talk about. It does start a little smaller with another pirate crew. Everything else was quite amazing. Luffy's crew comes to Water 7 based on Italy. They even have a train that operates through the water. Unexpectedly mysterious stuff started to happened. Which led to the crew trying to save a few people from the World Government.
This even goes bigger with a large amount of the story taking place. At one of the three main government buildings. You could say all hell break loose there. This really gives you a good idea how the World Government actually operates. A rather chaotic situation with the crew gaining a few more members.
This also started another ongoing trend. We get to see what happened following such an event. You better get use to that quickly. This arc really opened up the possibilities for the series. By now you also noticing how well the author writes so many characters. The crew had many obstacles on the way. They effectively saved another location from tyranny.
Thriller Bark Saga
1. Thriller Bark Arc
One of two sagas to only have one arc. This is a rather unusual one in many ways. The actual following island so happened to be a gigantic pirate ship I'm not kidding. Which means trying to find it can be quite a struggle. The crew on that ship were more freakier than anything the crew faced before. It's a great one to read close to or on Halloween.
Some unexpected huge twists that heavily impacted the story. The crew had several unnatural factors yet came out on top. This felt heavily Michael Jackson's Thriller inspired he he!!! This arc led to things I really didn't see coming following it. The crew kept improving themselves in some way. Not only that, they always come out on top with their backs against the wall.
Some would even describe some of this particular arc. The author must've been on drugs lol. It's such an out there concept that somehow fits in. Way better than anyone could've possibly imagined!!! This is proof the author is a gifted writer. They get an unlikely new crew mate. Honestly, some of what had happened gets mirrored more recently in ways you can't expect!!!
Summit War Saga
1. Sabaody Archipelago Arc
2. Amazon Lily Arc
3. Impel Down Arc
4. Marineford Arc
5. Post-War Arc
This is a really huge deal to discuss here. The crew gets unexpectedly split up. Don't worry this eventually worked to their advantage. The reminder of the arc heavily focuses on their captain. He desperately tries to save his brother Ace from a public execution. He even goes inside another major World Government building.
You know one of the three main buildings of theirs? Some gigantic surprises right up to the end it's that great!!! The author proven he's the best with so many characters during a war. This had so many things going at it. He ended up making it a truly epic event. Everyone dropping everything to see this play out!!!
To me this is easily among the most essential sagas in the story. This alone further steps up the ending. In so many ways with possibly more connections getting confirmed on the way. What was one of Luffy's worst days led to his crew stepping up their game for the future. A sad ending with a surprisingly bright future ahead.
Fish-Man Island Saga
1. Return to Sabaody Arc
2. Fish-Man Island Arc
I know it's a little weird the crew goes back to a previous location. Their next actual destination so happened to be deep within the sea!!! Fish-Man Island suddenly in the exact opposite direction from Skypiea. In terms they had to figure a way to go so high in the sky. Now they gotta reach an island deep within the ocean with it's own obstacles.
I'm very glad this concept was in the actual story. We get to learn more about locations not from above or the usual islands. This eventually led to another kingdom getting saved. This also centered on racism to a degree. It was quite interesting they got to interact with fish people. Some aspects being similar to Arlong Park Arc with some connections to that.
This saga might not have the same impact as some of the previous sagas. What it does have though is the crew constantly changing things for the better. We get some deep lore with a few characters we didn't expect. Honestly, the author did a great job writing it. This also was right before we actually get to see what the crew could do since they were separated.
Dressrosa Saga
1. Punk Hazard Arc
2. Dressrosa Arc
This would be a spiritual successor to two sagas. Being Alabasta and Thriller Bark sagas respectively. Yes just like those the main antagonist was a former member of the Seven Warlords. Indirectly some of this connects to a character you don't expect. They reach an island that's half extreme heat with the other being extreme cold.
Yes how this happened does get explained. After stopping an incident that occurred there. They reach Dressrosa in a familiar situation. By now you already know they ended up saving another country. All of this plays into a later saga as well. The crew had some strange situations on those islands. Obviously I prefer Dressrosa Arc more for many reasons.
Both were vastly different arcs leading up to an inevitable confrontation. This also had some surprises in later sagas no body saw coming. Both of these incidents caused major changes to the world. Honestly, the range this author can write is truly impressive. We're getting such a story we could pass down for generations I'm not kidding.
Whole Cake Island Saga
1. Zou Arc
2. Whole Cake Island Arc
3. Levely Arc
The beginning portions focuses in between the present with flashbacks. The present following what happened while half the crew back in Dressrosa. Indirectly leading to a huge surprise with a particular character later on. This also further solidifies the inevitable confrontation. By this point, three emperors saw Luffy as a thorn to their sides.
A former emperor Big Mom gets into an unexpected war. Several assassination attempts failed triggering that. The odds was really against the crew this time. Somehow they ended up getting the last laugh. This also marked the crew was on the verge becoming a future emperor crew. We also got to see some strangely interesting locations.
Let's put it this way Willy Wonka has a factory lol. There's some surprising further back story to a particular character. Not only, we get a more clear idea how an emperor crew does things. For once, the main antagonist doesn't lose in the traditional way. But more of her reputation getting ruined following things.
Wano Country Saga
1. Wano Country Arc
This is a rather difficult saga to break down. I am going to give it my best try though. From Dressrosa Arc, we knew Luffy had unfinished business with another former emperor being Kaido. This also ends up bringing Big Mom into all this chaos!!! Now two emperors were working together. Luffy had to work in a huge alliance once again.
Half the crew reached Wano first. The remaining half with a new member later on reached the country. Of course, we go right into another huge war. Similar to Summit War Arc, emperors were involved. The author put a lot of years into this!!! We get very deep dives of everything!!! I do mean everything especially lore.
It's safe to say this further set up the ending for the story. This ended up being a massive mile stone for Luffy. Officially leaving the country as one of two new emperors. Effectively means he's one step away becoming the King of the Pirates. Wano works way better manga wise from it's anime counterpart. The pacing is no comparison way better in the manga version.
So many things directly tied together as well. A possible set up for a future member. Directly mirroring another famous character the saga heavily references. Keep in mind, this is before Egghead Arc. Wano Country Saga was a true master piece!!! Wano being based on Japan was done perfectly!!! This arc had plenty of surprises as well as twists.
Honestly, this is among the most essential sagas in the story by far. You already know a large amount of it will be connected in the later portions of the story. No one was expecting this much story!!! At the same time, those really into the story. Simply couldn't get enough of this because it's that damn great!!! You could make a great movie maybe two out of all this particular arc.
Conclusion
For a story almost written for three decades. One Piece is easily the most constant manga series. This story is mind blowing awesomeness!!! There's such deep lore with many surprises on the way. Plenty of characters to love as well as dislike. In every possible aspect the perfect Shonen manga series. You really get it all that's amazingly done incredibly well!!!
This story won't end for a long time despite being in it's final saga. Luffy's journey going to be among the greatest stories ever written!!! I easily could see some people treat the story as a new religion. I'm quite serious if you got about it the right way it works amazingly well. One Piece is a story that has something for someone.
The insane range of the author you just never know what's going to be in the story next? There's plenty of people with their own in depth theories about it's future. One Piece already the best overall selling comic series in the world!!! Honestly, a lot of people just don't know what they're missing out on. One Piece is essentially the greatest pirate story ever written period!!!
You get more than enough everything you just want more. You easily could just read this an entire year. You would be amaze how well that works!!! One Piece is something you can't copy neither recreate. I don't even think the author himself could do either. A true testament how great this story actually is!!! One Piece is going to have an ending so great the world can't believe it ends just like that!!!
