Terrordrome: Reign of the Legends (2024)
At this time Story Mode isn't available. Which would hurt it for that blog I just referenced in the works. Thankfully you get a lot of characters that has endings. Also some sick finishers that's notably better than those in Terrordrome: Rise of the Boogeymen. What an interesting roster of character we have. Obviously I have to compare the game to several similar fighting games.
Excluding Terrordrome: Rise of the Boogeyman from that. The two it reminds me of the most Darkstalkers series and The Black Heart. Roster wise, Darkstalkers does have several creatures this game has. Both has a vampire lord, an sasquatch whose simply named that, Frankenstein's Monster and a few others.
The game tries to be a perfect mix of being darker for a fighting game. Personally not to insult the developers of this amazing fighting game. The Black Heart is virtually the perfection of that concept. We all can agree all of this way better than Clash of the Monsters. The controls are roughly similar to Terrordrome: Rise of the Boogeymen.
There's a good amount of modes with easier online access. I previously gotten this while it still was in beta. Another game in the same upcoming blog also has that going for it. I'm not trying to spoil the lineup I have. Terrordrome: Reign of the Legends has better written stories than the fan game counterpart. I do like the risks they took in some of these alternative character skins.
I felt there's a good variety of stages. The audio is better than expected as well. You get a surprisingly decent fighting game. You can tell they wanted to go more ambitious than that fan game. Some may criticize them playing safe due to using public domain characters or original ones. They did get notice of copy right stuff from the fan game.
I felt at the time it might've not been the best course of action. But my views changed since playing this for hours. I loved majority of their takes on these classic characters. They truly made them their own especially Wendigo. This is a great fighting game to play close to or on Halloween. Achievements are very straight forward despite having to do a lot of characters more than once runs.
There was some technical issues that's difficult to ignore. I do think they will eventually work these problems out. This felt like a modernize Darkstalkers game, I love that!!! I know some expected me to compare this to Killer Instinct series. In it's defense, it differs notably enough to not be considered an Killer Instinct rip off.
In all honestly, it's a great alternative if you don't have The Black Heart. I know some people might consider me comparing that to this being a bit unfair. I don't have a lot of choices among horror fighting games. I will say the finishers are truly amazing stuff. I just hope they can keep pushing the envelope with that concept.
This game always had potential to be even better overtime. Clearly the team is deeply passion about their work. They do have a discord server you could talk to them on. They put a few years into this, I felt it was worth that time spent. I don't have much to criticize beyond the technical problems. I do think still think Terrordrome: Rise of the Boogeymen is a slightly better game.
To clarify a few things, no it isn't for the fact I know those characters more than these characters. I just felt in several aspects it's the better Terrrordrome game. I highly recommend checking both of them out. I just want the technical issues worked out to a degree in the near future. Otherwise, you got a fun fighting game with such iconic characters to play for hours among hours.
