More thoughts on Markiplier's 3 Scary Games

Recent entry is 3 Scary Games #105

Also this will be a lengthy blog post, please take as many breaks as possible while reading.

Hello everyone I'm XboxClown89, a few years ago I talked about Markiplier's 3 Scary Games. He's still making more videos for that series. Which quickly became my favorite video series he's done. Then again I mostly into that while not seeing many of his other videos. I'm a huge horror fan after all.

He focuses on lesser known PC horror games. He usually plays as the title suggests, three horror games within one video each. Sometimes, they get edited a lot while some games come off being more unedited from the footage shown. Speaking of that, instead of simply doing 3 Scary Games #100 video.

Markiplier with his video editor made a little over hour long horror compilation video. This video in question being called 300 Scary Games. Most of the footage pulled from previous 3 Scary Games videos. Some footage pulled from other horror game videos Markiplier's done. Personally I'll give him respect to go this big for the hundred episode of the series.

There's some similar titled videos that isn't necessary in this video series. Originally I was going to wait until 3 Scary Games #110 happened. He is rather busy making videos as well as directing a movie. It's hard to say how long I would've waited otherwise. Also I kinda was do to revisit this topic.

This is also why more recently the newer 3 Scary Games videos are more spaced out in releases. Honestly, I'm fine with that since he can take his time keeping it constant as possible. I am rather curious what his method finding some of these games. I know a lot of them many fans of his threw out to him.

His reactions are virtually spot on in these newer videos. If you wanna test how brave you are, some of these videos can be quite scary. In fact, if Markiplier allowed someone to properly make a compilation video of the scariest moments from this series. I'm sure someone going to pass out from em.

To me this felt like his counterpart to The Simpsons' Treehouse of Horror episodes. Let's be honest it's kinda obvious to see why. Majority of them has three horror stories we see play out. A major difference is Markiplier playing them all. Of course, they love doing these intros as well as outros.

Sometimes these are among the best moments of the videos. Not to say the games in them aren't great by any means. I felt the perfect way to describe it is how effective they play em off. I always respect the amazing work indie developers puts in their horror games too. I will briefly describe each game from 3 Scary Games #94 to 3 Scary Games #105, twelve episodes worth.

If there's enough interest I'll make a few follow up blog entries. One would be covering more newer 3 Scary Games videos. Another possible idea is briefly covering every game from the beginning to 3 Scary Games #93. Honestly, it depends on those reading these what do you want? Regardless I hope you enjoy this as much as I did writing it all.

I will be excluding any games Markiplier doesn't count towards the theme.

3 Scary Games #94

The True Ingredients (Fan SpongeBob horror game)
The Nightmare of the Air Balloon
SpongeBob Killerpants (Another Fan SpongeBob horror game)

When you see horror games based on cartoon shows, it's always creepy. Plus two of three horror games being fan horror SpongeBob games. It's kinda gets under your skin as you're watching them. The Nightmare of the Air Balloon is mostly you keep walking. Overtime things changed to start freaking you out with such amazing visuals.

3 Scary Games #95

Melissa
The Man in the Park
Halloween (Fan Halloween game)

Melissa is one of those games the AI eventually shows their true colors. In this case, the AI thinks of you as their best friend in a rather obsessive matter. The Man in the Park is a retro style multiple endings game. Halloween is more based on the movie of the same name than the Atari 2600 game.

3 Scary Games #96

Spin to Win
MapFriend
The Ball Pit

Easily a freaky lineup of games. Spin to Win, you spin the wheel for stuff to happen. It heavily plays off paranoia what could happen. MapFriend is a map simulator game. It surprisingly looks rather realistic with the sudden horror aspects being quite effective. The Ball Pit plays on your imagination a bit that may scare some people.

3 Scary Games #97

Enclosure
Wheat Harvest
Paradox

Enclosure is your standard indie horror game style. You get to explore with some freaky messages. Also a monster stalks you as you explore not much to say. Wheat Harvest is sorta a mowing simulator game with amazing visuals. Paradox is a retro style horror game. Not quite PS1 but almost 3DS close to Switch style graphics with freaky enemies.

3 Scary Games #98

Harvest Festival 64
Lidar.exe
A Mall Near You

Harvest Festival 64 is obviously inspired by Animal Cross series. I do love how closely it mimics the N64 style graphics. Lidar.exe has a rather interesting style with the art. A Mall Near You is like those interactive novel game style. A horror story involving a mal simply done in a way you aren't expecting.

3 Scary Games #99

Shirime
The Pizza
Last Night

Shirime is inspired by P.T. and RE7 first person style. I will say this had some impressive graphics for a game. The Pizza is a retro style game about a pizza. It does play off nostalgia to a degree. Last Night is another retro style horror game. Parts of the game is a cooking simulator. Restaurants are a recurring location in indie horror games, it still came off realistic.

300 Scary Games

This is currently the longest episode in the entire series. 3 Scary Games Live video is a few minutes longer, not edited too. I would say this is easily the best editing in the series hands down. You do feel like you're reliving many horror games he's done over the years. This clearly was a slam dunk you can easily rewatch towards or on Halloween.

3 Scary Games #101

Three Minutes with Your Dog
Bad Flesh
Something in the Woods

Bad Flesh is truly a disgusting game you eat body parts. Three Minutes with Your Dog gets weirder the longer you're playing it. To me, one of the weirdest horror games of it's style in the series. Something in the Woods is another retro horror game. I will say the usage of colors in some sections rather pleasant.

3 Scary Games #102

The Prototype
Home Alone
The Man in the Park 2

The Prototype is kinda like RE7/FNaF style animation. You are testing out the prototype that ends up freaking you out. Home Alone despite the name isn't a fan game of the movie franchise. A recurring horror game theme you do stuff with someone stalking you. The Man in the Park 2 is creepier than the original game.

I also wanna say it's not often he plays sequel games in this video series.

3 Scary Games #103

Crowded, Followed.
Boil Noodles at Night
Excuse me, Sir?

Crowded, Followed. plays heavily on some fears people has. Some rather impressive graphics with amazing art work. Boil Noodles at Night is another retro horror game. This game constantly making you wonder what could happen next. Excuse me, Sir? is one of those interactive phone style games.

3 Scary Games #104

Forest Rangers Services
Rinse and Repeat
Go to Bed

Forest Rangers Services is an impressive retro style horror game. It's almost PS2 possibly Dreamcast style graphics. Honestly, it's amazing what this game manages to pull off. Rinse and Repeat is a weird shower game with multiple endings. Go to Bed is a weird trying to sleep game with multiple endings.

I also wanna say Go to Bed ends up being more interesting than you might be expecting too.

3 Scary Games #105

Clap Clap
Gingerbread Man
Mourning Tide

To me, one of the more interesting entries in this video series. Clap Clap is a retro style horror game. The more you play it, the weirder it becomes experience. Gingerbread Man is a Christmas horror game. It kinda has a decent jump scare. Mourning Tide is a weird fishing game. Like Clap Clap, it will continue to get weirder the longer it goes on.

Mourning Tide is a fishing simulator with the right levels of screwing with people game play.

Markiplier worked so hard to deliver a lot of entertainment over the years. This video series is easily among his best hands down. They are perfect to revisit for Halloween, a strong recommendation from me. I can't wait for more 3 Scary Games videos. Honestly, I couldn't ask for much since it's done so amazingly well.
