The second installment in a racing series still going strong today. Mario Kart 64 is arguably considered the best Mario Kart by many people. A short roster of characters that doesn't play too differently. More modes to test your gaming skills especially against other players. A lot of tracks to race on including the longest Rainbow Road in the franchise.
This was the last Crash Bandicoot game on PlayStation & first developed by another team. Other than Naughty Dog who moved on to work on Jak & Daxter series. This also led to a racing game franchise that some still talk about today. Crash Team Racing does have a story mode to unlock more characters.
So which racing game is the definitive kart racer let's find out? Mario Kart 64 has slightly better controls in comparison. Both allows you to attack other characters or drop something for them to drive into. I felt this was done slightly better in Mario Kart 64 since you can memorize them easier. Yes there is a story mode in Crash Team Racing but it's frustrating like Diddy Kong Racing on N64.
Trust me a comparison between those two isn't possible for many reasons. Moving on I do kinda agree Crash Team Racing has a better roster of characters. Yes I just said that sue me although Mario Kart 64 does offer more for testing your skills. It is possible to play story mode with two characters
However it actually makes trying to win a lot tougher.
Music wise both have a solid soundtrack but you simply can't compete with Mario Kart 64. Even sound effects are better in Mario Kart 64 like someone getting hit or firing a weapon. Also Mario Kart 64 has more interesting tracks to look at. This ended up being an land slide for Mario Kart 64.
