Hi everyone I'm Jack Red, a lot of stuff came up during last year. I completely forgot to review Mortal Kombat XL. Thankfully I can do it for you right now. I already did two blog reviewing most of them for ScrewAttack. Only the first one got featured on their website being one of my few blogs to do so. I think it's time to let the world know how much I love Mortal Kombat XL.
A follow up to Mortal Kombat (2011) continuing a new time line. Officially this would be MK4's counterpart in the new time line since it is technically covering the same event done very differently. Mortal Kombat XL is a later version of Mortal Kombat X with majority of it's dlcs. Only a small handful of costumes dlcs are left out but they're dirt cheap.
If you played Injustice: Gods Among Us, you can use your environment during combat. This by itself makes some possibilities more likely to happen. Now add in an revamped brutality to that for more fun. Originally in most versions of MK3, brutalities are long combos that led to your opponents exploding. I got to say they did a great job making brutalities awesome.
I won't lie this has some of the most disturbing, disgusting, violent finishers in any fighting game. You will ever see that caused a lot of people live streaming throwing up. I kid you not this game will make you man up. This is almost like Tales from the Crypt show. A great roster of characters with some great new characters. I also like they tells us exactly where this fits in the new time line.
Originally we just knew MK4 took place after MK3 with little information to back up how long after. I do like MK4 for what it is but I really rather play MKXL instead. Some of the best level designs yet in an MK game. I really like during each fight's intro at random both fighters has lines. Some of these make me things more intense while others are weird or flat out funny.
The Krypt is heavily revamped to be more of an adventure. Unlike some previous Mortal Kombat games, you only get one colored coins. Which does make things a little easier but you also need to find stuff to open more areas. In fact there's actually two major areas in this Krypt mode. Both are filled with extra content to discover.
One of the absolute best soundtracks in any fighting game. Although it does take time getting use to. Most fighters has three different fighting styles. Unlike some of the previous MK games, you have to select one unless you do a code. By doing this code on Triborg, you will instead get Cyber Sub-Zero's fighting style.
A ton of great dlcs rivaling those for the previous MK game. OMG how is Jason, Leatherface, Alien & Predator in the same MK game? The last one had Kratos in Sony versions with Freddy in all of them. WOW a lot of us didn't expect Alien at all to appear in this game. It blew my mind on so many levels.
They revamped Tanya & Tremor in this game. Triborg is basically Chameleon/Khameleon of this game. Originally in Mortal Kombat: Trilogy depending on which version. You can do a code on the character selection that must end on one of seven male ninjas excluding MK3 Sub-Zero. Which is similar to playing as Human Smoke in some versions of UMK3.
In N64 version, you have to unlock cheat menus to unlock her. Both of them are all male & female ninjas rolled into one character. In this case Triborg is Sektor, Cyrax, Smoke and Cyber Sub-Zero in all. I knew right away this character was going to be awesome. Very likely how TMNT will play in Injustice 2 yes I called it folks.
A great lengthy story mode that may not be as good as the previous MK game. But still better than all the Konquest modes put together. Just like Injustice with it's story mode, some sections has extra stuff to help get an advantage on your opponents. However if you aren't on top of it you will have to fight them with fewer health yourself.
Mortal Kombat XL is truly a fighting game that must be in your collection. I am very impressed in what they achieve in this game. Clearly there's a bright future for this franchise beyond Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. Until next time I'm Jack Red and I'll see you all later.
