I already said so much how I felt about this match back in my very lengthy Tournament of Champions blog. I do think this is going to be a good episode. Just not either of the matches I rather wanna see. Well it makes more sense than Among Us vs Fall Guys. Not to mention, two matches that lost polls in a row kinda weird.
At least Kratos vs Asura won't be in the next Tournament of Champions. This is far from the matches confirmed I wanna see. We are talking Mahito vs Shigaraki, Wile E. Coyote vs Tom Cat, Gru vs Megamind and especially Kyle vs Simon respectively. It's not technically a meh which is a good sign. I do think we're getting a truly epic showdown here.
Verdict
Kratos
For all it's worth Asura brings in endurance as well as raw power to a degree. The big issue with his character is he needs to constantly get push to reach higher levels of power. Which never was an issue with Kratos. Also it's debatable how much Kratos could be given in this fight. He does technically have some more notable god traits that can't be ignored.
Some of which Asura simply has no real counters for. Such as Hope as long there's hope Kratos can negate many things. He once used hope on the Blades of Olympus to "save mankind" that led the world into the apocalypse. You know the same blade that once taken his powers. Kratos also proven to be notably harder to kill.
This weapon is capable of killing gods as well. It's debatable if Kratos be given such a weapon. He also has many other options to constantly stay ahead of Asura within a fight. Such as suddenly bringing out the head of Medusa. Who has a curse among looking into her eyes, you turn to stone. Kratos even can fight Asura in the air to a degree despite his appearance.
It also doesn't help Asura that Kratos has more of a notable arsenal. Asura is purely close range combat with his six fists. I'm sure they plan to stick to the canon for this one. So they won't be considering Asura fought Akuma to a standstill. Especially they could argue Kratos beats Akuma in comparison. It's debatable which character has more actual years under their belt.
Kratos is more prepare for majority of everything that possibly could happen in this fight. In vice versa, Asura simply isn't prepare for most of those. Also considering he has to get in close. Kratos can easily change his tactics to fight him from a distance at any given time. Kratos even has a more notable defense than Asura whose a strong offense with a serious lack of defense.
Therefore, we got to go by whose more notable. This might be seen as being unfair since Asura in one game while Kratos in a couple games. Both fought against their own pantheons including the top gods. But Kratos actually done this to two pantheons. Sure some could argue Kratos had help against Odin. You also gotta realize Odin is a very well prepared god.
Odin by himself had what he needed to make major changes. There was no way anyone could fight Odin solo in that universe. Especially when Odin's knowledge limited most of their options by default. Scaling will be a truly frustrating one for this fight. They gotta scale both of them differently first. Then the hard part is creating a brand new scaling to work with both characters.
This by itself could possibly alter the outcome of this fight. I still don't think Asura quite on Kratos' level. I know some likely going to say. We see Asura fighting in space against armies. Yeah he did do that in Asura's Wraith I won't argue that point. I could argue though Kratos fighting two pantheons is ultimately more ridiculous.
Another major difference is Asura has to struggle coming back to life. Previously Kratos had this problem until Hope factor came into play. This ultimately means as long Kratos believes in hope. He simply can not die in this fight. Death Battle previously used similar characters. Most of which actually loss on the show.
Makima and Chosen Undead with a notable different factor that made em quite tricky to kill. Makima was spiritually connected to the people of Japan. Chosen Undead can keep coming back as long he had the will to do so. Which is similar to how Hope works for Kratos. Let's be honest, there's no way Asura going to cause Kratos to lose that will.
Kratos is so used taking blows from powerful beings. Even if he lacked a lot of his arsenal. Kratos has proven to fight directly against some of those beings with his hands. This is also why Asura's fighting style going to cause him the victory. Not to mention, he can easily lose his arms as well. Even if Asura could go full power right off the bat.
Death Battle actually has some mind blowing feats to give to Kratos. Some of which is simply beyond concepts to a degree. Lifting wise it's virtually Hercules level of ridiculousness. Asura never shown many physically feats in comparison. This also means Kratos can very easily overpower Asura in a fist fight.
This also means even if Asura were the better fighter. Kratos can easily go right for the kill off the bat at any given time. Just three methods Kratos has to directly bypass durability. Neither Asura has any real counters for. This could be seen as a god variation of Goku vs Superman with everything considered. Asura obviously being Goku in this situation.
Kratos being Superman having so many advantages it's not even funny. Kratos also used to think quite similar to Asura as well. Which he can directly use against him in this fight too. Speed is going to be among the trickiest to determine. I could argue Asura is ridiculously fast closer to his full power. Then I could counter argue that with some of the stuff Kratos done himself.
Both held their own without their powers. Kratos would have the advantage previously being a warrior in the Spartans. You know stuff like an movie called 300 series based on. These warriors had the right level of offense with one of the best designed shields in history. I mean come on that's kinda obvious. Asura also doesn't offer much outside being an berserker.
His main strategy is heavily overwhelm his opponents until he wins. But there's virtually no way that's going to happen against Kratos. Try to think of this as Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul rigged moving on. Kratos obviously being Mike Tyson in this example. Asura being Jake Paul in vice versa. Kratos has more notable combat experience.
Kratos also fought a bigger variety of enemies across two pantheons. Cerberus vs Fenrir needs to happen some day. Same with Anubis vs Hades, I would love to see that. Of course, I know I sound like a broken record on this. I'm really waiting for the day they do Zeus vs Odin!!! Just going by that logic, Kratos is better suited for all the possibilities in this fight.
I'm also aware Asura does offer his long range attacks to a degree. Again this heavily depends on how much of his full power he's using. Kratos has plenty of options to counter this too. Kratos could even stop Asura from doing em too. This is exactly why I'm not that interested in this fight. It quickly falls apart after you compare the two, Kratos going to win this fight.
Winner: Kratos (God of War)
