My thoughts about every Treehouse of Horror stories (Seasons 2-35)

Hello everyone I'm XboxClown89, we got two Treehouse of Horror episodes coming this year. Sadly in November but virtually locked in dates due to baseball. I figured to quickly discuss every previous Treehouse of Horror stories. Excluding Not It but I already covered that in greater detail in another blog.

Treehouse of Horror                 Season 2 1990-1991

1. Bad Dream House

2. Hungry are the Damned

3. The Raven

Bad Dream House involves the Simpsons moving into a new haunted house. Even for the first Treehouse of Horror story, it was quite creative for it's time. Hungry are the Damned is a parody of a particular episode from The Twilight Zone. The aliens kidnapped the Simpsons with surprisingly good intentions.

Lisa started to question this to the point, the aliens felt hurt by it. They get dropped off at home because of her. Even here doesn't hide how two face Simpsons characters are. The Raven is a surprisingly effective adaptation of the story by Edgar Allen Poe. James Earl Jones being the narrator was pure genius!!!

Treehouse of Horror 2 Season 3 1991-1992

1. The Monkey's Paw

2. The Bart Zone

3. If I Only Had a Brain

The Monkey's Paw has several adaptations over the years. It shouldn't be a surprise there exists an Simpsons version. Homer was given a mysterious monkey paw that grants wishes. However every wish ended up backfiring in some way. The Bart Zone is another parody of The Twilight Zone that's quite creative.

Bart can read minds as well as warp reality to a degree. This had a surprising good ending with everything considered. If I Only Had a Brain is a strange take on Frankenstein. Where Mr. Burns brings a robot with a human brain being Homer's to life. Personally, I felt they could've done a little more with it.

Treehouse of Horror 3 Season 4 1992-1993

1. Clown Without Pity

2. King Homer

3. Dial "Z" for Zombies

Clown Without Pity is more directly a parody of an episode from The Twilight Zone. It's safe to say to some degree also parodying Child's Play series. This was before they renamed it to Chucky series. One of my favorite Krusty stories they ever done!!! King Homer is a parody of King Kong mostly the classic version.

I felt they done a surprisingly great job with it. The ending is a little unexpected as well. Dial "Z" for Zombies is their best zombie story to date. Some of the funniest early Treehouse of Horror jokes. This was a great way to end the episode. Easily, one of my favorites among the series without question. A true timeless classic among them at that.

Treehouse of Horror 4 Season 5 1993-1994

1. The Devil and Homer Simpson

2. Terror at 5½ Feet

3. Bart Simpson's Dracula

This always been one of my absolute favorite Treehouse of Horror episodes. The Devil and Homer Simpson involves Homer selling his soul to eat a donut. Everything about this was so damn good!!! Terror at 5½ Feet is another parody of The Twilight Zone. I felt how they recreated it the way they did was amazing stuff.

Bart constantly freaking out almost the entire story works perfectly for this. Bart Simpson's Dracula is obviously a parody of Dracula. There's a lot of adaptations of the story, likely parodying the 90s movie I'm a huge fan of. There's a nice twist at the end that completes the episode just right. I may like this parody a lot, I still prefer Conker's Bad Fur Day parodying the same Dracula movie more.

Treehouse of Horror 5 Season 6 1994-1995

1. The Shinning

2. Time and Punishment

3. Nightmare Cafeteria

Virtually everyone agrees including myself the greatest Treehouse of Horror episode ever!!! The Shinning is a parody of The Shining. This might be a controversial statement, I prefer this over The Shining movie & mini series. This was truly amazing stuff for it's time. Easily, the best parody of a Stephen King story ever!!!

Time and Punishment involves Homer traveling through time. He kept changing things in the distant past with dinosaurs. You can tell the writers had a lot of fun with this. Nightmare Cafeteria involves the school staff devouring children. I felt this one was a good end to a great Halloween episode, I felt bad for Willie.

Treehouse of Horror 6 Season 7 1995-1996

1. Attack of the 50-Foot Eyesores

2. Nightmare on Evergreen Terrace

3. Homer³

Attack of the 50-Foot Eyesores involves characters from advertising coming to life. They cause wreck to Springfield. they had some good jokes thrown in. Nightmare on Evergreen Terrace is a personal favorite of mine. I'm a huge Freddy fan, I absolutely love this parody. Considering some shared things for A Nightmare on Elm Street remake.

This parody story was way better!!! I felt it was done perfectly, it's so good!!! Homer³ was quite an ambitious concept. Parts of it in regular animation with CGI representing another dimension. I'm even amazed Homer got sent to the real world, I felt that's well executed. It was a huge deal to do the CGI portion at the time, it was done amazingly well.

Treehouse of Horror 7 Season 8 1996-1997

1. The Thing and I

2. The Genesis Tub

3. Citizen Kang

The Thing and I involves Bart having a secret twin brother. I felt the twist at the end was done just right. The Genesis Tub is another parody of The Twilight Zone. Bart shocks Lisa who then by accident shocks a tooth. Which ended up creating a tiny civilization, a great parody indeed. The ending alone is enough to sell you on this.

Citizen Kang was a crazy final story. We have the two main aliens of these episodes. Homer gave them a terrible idea. By replacing the two candidates for the upcoming election themselves. They had some clever jokes thrown in. Honestly, another great Treehouse of Horror episode. All three of these stories are huge recommendations.

Treehouse of Horror 8 Season 9 1997-1998

1. The HΩmega Man

2. Fly vs. Fly

3. Easy-Bake Coven

The HΩmega Man involves Homer in a now apocalypse world. He ends up doing anything he wants without a care in the world. Eventually, the mutants shows up leading to a good ending. Fly vs. Fly is a parody of The Fly. Homer bought two teleporters from a scientist. Honestly, they could've done a little more with it.

Bart decides to mess around with them that led to parts of him split between two beings. Easy-Bake Coven is obviously a witch story. I do like we get to see the witches' point of view in this story. My favorite aspect of it is how everything led to the first Halloween. This is one of many classic Treehouse of Horror episodes people often thinks of.

Treehouse of Horror 9 Season 10 1998-1999

1. Hell Toupée

2. The Terror of Tiny Toon

3. Starship Poopers

Hell Toupée is quite an unexpected one. A criminal named Snake gets sent to the chair vowing revenge. Homer gets a hair transplant that led to several murders. Snake takes control over Homer's body until he rips it off his head. The Terror of Tiny Toon is among my favorite Itchy & Scratchy stories. Now this had creativity thrown in just right.

Bart decides to use something nuclear instead of batteries for a TV remote. Which led to him and Lisa going inside TV to become enemies of their favorite cartoon duo. Starship Poopers involves Maggie having a different alien dad. When Jerry Springer shows up, I felt that's the high point of that story. Especially when the two dads fights each other.

Treehouse of Horror 10 Season 11 1999-2000

1. I Know What You Diddily-Iddily Did

2. Desperately Xeeking Xena

3. Life's a Glitch, Then You Die

I Know What You Diddily-Iddily Did is a weird mix of I Know What You Did Last Summer with The Wolf Man. I just felt focusing on one of those movies would've worked better. Desperately Xeeking Xena involves Bart and Lisa becoming super heroes. A new super villain The Collector no not Marvel's The Collector.

He kidnaps celebrities including Lucy Lawless. I felt this could've been a little better too. Life's a Glitch, Then You Die involves Y2K. You know the world ends on midnight of New Years thing. It kinda felt like two different endings happening at the same time. Honestly, Desperately Xeeking Xena should've been the final story.

Treehouse of Horror 11 Season 12 2000-2001

1. G-G-Ghost D-D-Dad

2. Scary Tales Can Come True

3. Night of the Dolphin

G-G-Ghost D-D-Dad has Homer dies in a rather silly way. He must do good deeds to get into heaven. I felt they could've been a little more creative with it. Scary Tales Can Come True is sorta like Shrek in a sense. We have fairy tale characters mostly the Simpson kids aware of other stories. It felt like a self aware fairy tale that quickly become one that's not great.

Homer becomes one of the weirdest versions to date. Honestly, this should've opened the episode instead. Night of the Dolphin is kinda known among the Simpsons community. Dolphins decides to invade Springfield. Which led to the dolphins taking over the land. It's a concept that would only work here.

Treehouse of Horror 12 Season 13 2001-2002

1. Hex and the City

2. House of Whacks

3. Wiz Kids

Hex and the City involves Homer gets cursed by a gypsy. Everyone he loves when around him, bad things happens. This was a weird one to open the Halloween episode up with. I felt they made a rather fun story to watch. House of Whacks always stuck with me for years. I should mention, Pierce Brosnan voices the AI it works amazingly well here.

It's a parody of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Marge accepts to get the house fully robotize with an AI. The house eventually attempted to kill Homer over it's obsession with Marge. Easily, one of the best stories of it's era. Wiz Kids was a parody of Harry Potter. When the writers didn't fully know what it was, Wiz Kids could be seen as something else.

Treehouse of Horror 13 Season 14 2002-2003

1. Send in the Clones

2. The Fright to Creep and Scare Harms

3. The Island of Dr. Hibbert

Send in the Clones was among my favorite stories of it's era. I hope you love Homer because there's a lot of Homers. It's a parody of a movie called Multiplicity. Homer bought this device that appears as something you lay down that creates clones. Everything about it was a lot of fun. Honestly, I loved they went for that concept.

The Fright to Creep and Scare Harms involves Lisa doing the final request of a dead person. Who got revealed to be Billy the Kid with a weird ending you won't see coming. The Island of Dr. Hibbert, the Simpsons goes on vacation. When people around em suddenly became animals, a surprisingly happy ending I liked a lot.

Treehouse of Horror 14 Season 15 2003-2004

1. Reaper Madness

2. Frinkenstein

3. Stop the World, I Want to Goof Off

Another Treehouse of Horror episode I enjoyed a lot. Reaper Madness involves Homer killed the Grim Reaper. He ended up taking his place that led to some interesting stuff. Obviously Family Guy done it first but I love both their takes on the same concept. Frinkenstein is another parody of Frankenstein that's notably different.

Professor Frink revives his father in an attempt to repair his relationship with him. His dad decides to steal body parts from a lot of people. It indirectly plays off Jerry Lewis himself as well as his role in The Nutty Professor. Stop the World, I Want to Goof Off is another parody of The Twilight Zone that's kinda fun.

Treehouse of Horror 15 Season 16 2004-2005

1. The Ned Zone

2. Four Beheadings and a Funeral

3. In the Belly of the Boss

The Ned Zone is a parody of The Dead Zone. Ned gets into an accident. Among waking up when he touches people's hands foresees their deaths. I felt the writers were a little more creative with it than expected. Four Beheadings and a Funeral is a parody detective story. Personally it isn't much but you might find a little enjoyment in it.

It's mostly a parody of From Hell but you could also argue Sherlock Holmes as well. In the Belly of the Boss, the Simpsons get shrunken down with a ship. They traveled inside Mr. Burns to save his life. There's a weird ending you might not forget. I personally felt The Ned Zone was the best of them, I loved it!!!

Treehouse of Horror 16 Season 17 2005-2006

1. B. I. Bartificial Intelligence

2. Survival of the Fattest

3. I've Grown a Costume on Your Face

B. I. Bartificial is a parody of A. I. Artificial Intelligence. Bart goes into a coma, his family decides to replace him with a robot son. Which led to conflict between the two sons. Survival of the Fattest is easily my favorite of the three stories. It's a parody of The Most Dangerous Game. I felt this one felt like the most completed among them, it shows.

Mr. Burns hunts a lot of people for sport. Some surprising good jokes thrown in for a great time. I've Grown a Costume on Your Face involves a witch that gets insulted by the town of Springfield. She casts a spell to transform em into their costumes. I just wish the ending was much better than this. Overall, not a bad one to end an episode on.

Treehouse of Horror 17 Season 18 2006-2007

1. Married to the Blob

2. You Gotta Know When to Golem

3. The Day the Earth Looked Stupid

Married to the Blob is a parody of The Blob. Homer gets bigger the more people he eats. This was a surprisingly decent parody story. You Gotta Know When to Golem is mostly meh. It's a parody of The Golem (1915 film). This felt like a major missed opportunity. It's quite forgettable among Treehouse of Horror stories.

The Day the Earth Looked Stupid being a parody of War of the Worlds. Movie as well as the famous radio show, both heavily got made into a joke. A radio show caused paranoia to the town of Springfield. Which made the humans much easier for the aliens to take over than expected. They could've done much more with either section of the concept.

Treehouse of Horror 18 Season 19 2007-2008

1. E. T., Go Home

2. Mr. & Mrs. Simpson

3. Heck House

E. T., Go Home is a parody of E. T. that's more of it's own thing. Easily, one of the worst alien stories they ever done!!! This felt like a major missed opportunity. This should've been among the greatest parodies in the show's history. Mr. & Mrs. Simpson is a parody of Mr. and Mrs. Smith, it's not much either.

Heck House is the one story you wanna see. Some of the kids acted worst than usual. The devil whose once again Ned Flanders gave them quite a scary. This sorta felt like a spiritual successor to The Devil and Homer Simpson story. This was easily the best written among them all. I also loved most of the Seven Sins was Homer, that kinda was funny.

Treehouse of Horror 19 Season 20 2008-2009

1. Untitled Robot Parody

2. How to Get Ahead in Dead-vertising

3. It's the Grand Pumpkin, Milhouse

Untitled Robot Parody is well a parody of Transformers movies. This was a major missed opportunity. The story just doesn't come together with questionable moments. Not to mention the lackluster ending, a hard pass!!! How to Get Ahead in Dead-vertising is a surprising decent story. I would say most of it is a lot of fun to rewatch.

Homer by accident caused a celebrity's death. He ends up getting a job to professionally kill more of them. I did like the ending a lot despite a weird Abe Lincoln moment. It's the Grand Pumpkin, Milhouse is a parody of Charlie Brown's Halloween special. The Grand Pumpkin comes to life that goes on an rampage for mistreatment of pumpkins.

Treehouse of Horror 20 Season 21 2009-2010

1. Dial 'M' for Murder or Press '#' to Return to Main Menu

2. Don't Have a Cow, Mankind

3. There's No Business Like Moe Business

Dial 'M' for Murder or Press '#' to Return to Main Menu involves Lisa making a deal with Bart. Let's say some teachers die then one of them as well. A nice twist ending you might not see coming. Don't Have a Cow, Mankind, another zombie parody. This heavily played off mad cow burgers with Bart ended up being the cure.

To me, this was easily the best of the three stories. There's No Business Like Moe Business is a play based on Moe's Tavern. Homer gets a brutal death that kinda works. The singing was fine for the most part. I just felt they could've done more with it. I felt two of three stories are worth watching at least once.

Treehouse of Horror 21 Season 22 2010-2011

1. War and Pieces

2. Master and Cadaver

3. Tweenlight

War and Pieces is a parody of Jumanji where board games came to life. Sadly this also felt like a huge missed opportunity. All the crazy situations I would've done if I was the writer lol. Master and Cadaver, Homer and Marge saved a man while out to sea. This had a few major problems. The second story with how Maggie came in felt like two stories that doesn't properly connect to each other.

Such as it kept adding in twists to ruin the overall story. The ending with Maggie might've been the best surprise it had to offer. Tweenlight always been among my least favorites. I'm not a fan of Twilight series for many reasons. This parody of it was just uninspired and terrible, lackluster ending. There's plenty of vampire movies, shows and games more worth your time than this!!!

Treehouse of Horror 22 Season 23 2011-2012

1. The Diving Bell and Butterball

2. Dial D for Diddly

3. In the Na'Vi

The Diving Bell and Butterball is a weird Spider-Man parody. A spider bite Homer making him paralyze. Somehow he was able to use webs in the more joke matter. It simply felt like a stupid joke than anything else. Dial D for Diddly, this might come as a surprise. I am aware Dial D for Diddly was parodying Dexter show to a degree, It kinda works here.

I actually like this one a lot, Homer manipulates Ned to murdering people. Which led to God taking Homer's life before a reset happens. In the Na'Vi is among my least favorite stories. The best way to describe this parody of Avatar. It's almost like watching a mockbuster of that movie, it sucks!!! I can't even say one good positive for it at all.

Treehouse of Horror 23 Season 24 2012-2013

1. The Greatest Story Ever Holed

2. Un-normal Activity

3. Bart & Homer's Excellent Adventure

The Greatest Story Ever Holed centers around a small black hole. We are talking the kind of black hole you really don't wanna be close to. Eventually the town of Springfield threw too much into the black hole causing most of existence to get sucked in. Un-normal Activity is a parody of Paranormal Activity, it's alright at best.

Marge made a deal with demons that led to a mess up ending. I will be honest, I mostly care for the last story, Bart & Homer's Excellent Adventure. It's a parody of a few time travel movies. Bart changes the past with his parents. A rather unexpected ending to a fun time, I would recommend it despite not being Halloween like.

Treehouse of Horror 24 Season 25 2013-2014

1. Oh the Places You'll D'oh!

2. Dead and Shoulders

3. Freaks no Geeks

Oh the Places You'll D'oh! is a mess up parody of The Cat in the Hat. Now I felt this is what I was waited for. I always enjoyed rewatching this story. Dead and Shoulders involves Bart gets his head off. His head gets attached to his sister, Lisa's body. Which led to a mess up ending, it could've been a little better honestly.

Freaks no Geeks is a parody of Freaks, Homer out played his hand. This led to the freaks giving him a mess up punishment. To be honest, this too could've been a little as well. Most of the episode felt rushed as well as uninspired. You should just rewatch Oh the Places You'll D'oh! then stop watching is a good idea.

Treehouse of Horror 25 Season 26 2014-2015

1. School is Hell

2. A Clockwork Yellow

3. The Others

School is Hell I actually enjoyed a lot. Bart gets transferred to a school in Hell. I felt they done a great job with this, I wanted more of it!!! A Clockwork Yellow is a parody of A Clockwork Orange, it's alright nothing special. The Others is a parody of The Others I'm not kidding. Honestly, you should just rewatch The Others you can't go wrong.

This was a nice surprise, the shorts Simpsons returns. Both Simpson families doesn't get along, no surprise there. Then we get a lot of interesting versions showing up at the end. Now this was one of the better 2010 era stories. I just wished the ending was a little longer, I was curious what other versions may show up.

Treehouse of Horror 26 Season 27 2015-2016

1. Wanted: Dead, Then Alive

2. Homerzilla

3. Telepaths of Glory

Wanted: Dead, Then Alive was a rather interesting one. Sideshow Bob finally kills Bart after all these years. After a while he stopped caring until he came up with a mess idea plan. He would keep reviving Bart to kill him repeatedly, they were creative with this. Homerzilla is kinda a huge disappointment. I kinda prefer Bartzilla from Bart's Nightmare game!!!

It's a parody of Godzilla franchise more directly the major US releases. Let's put it this way, King Homer was way better!!! Telepaths of Glory involves Lisa and Milhouse getting powers that quickly led to things. I did like the camera style to show what's happening, sadly everything else is meh. It truly was a very boring story to end an episode on.

Treehouse of Horror 27 Season 28 2016-2017

1. Dry Hard

2. BFF R.I.P

3. Moefinger

Dry Hard is a parody of The Hunger Games. It doesn't even compare to Robot Chicken's Smurfs version of the same concept. This felt like an unfocused story that played out too quickly. BFF R.I.P, Lisa's imaginary friend starts killing people. I hate to sound like a broken record here. Honestly, the sudden adding Mad Max to Dry Hard didn't help things either.

Considering you have an imaginary friend of someone killing people. This felt too safe as well as very uninspired. Moefinger is a parody of James Bond and Kingsman series. Bart becomes an agent to save the world. I felt American Dad's take on this was way better. Even Austin Powers had much more too, I miss those movies!!!

Treehouse of Horror 28 Season 29 2017-2018

1. The Exor-Sis

2. Corlisa

3. Mmm... Homer

The Exor-Sis is a parody of The Exorcist, it's a little better than expected. It's also possible they might've taken some inspiration from The Omen series too. Believe it or not, beyond this point things gets weirder. Corlisa is a parody of Coraline where Lisa deserves a parallel universe. They did like the surprises this story had in store.

The animation mirroring that film helped this stand out more. It's a surprisingly lighter story than expected. Mmm... Homer is the one story I'm really surprised they actually allowed to happen. Homer decides to eat pieces of himself to the point. The writer later regrets doing this on the show, it's a controversial story at that.

Treehouse of Horror 29 Season 30 2018-2019

1. Intrusion of the Pod-Y Switchers

2. Multiplisa-ty

3. Geriatric Park

Intrusion of the Pod-Y Switchers is a parody of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, plant like aliens swap places with humans. It's not as well executed when Looney Tunes done the same concept, big points for anyone that remembers that. Multiplisa-ty is a parody of Split, Lisa has multiple personalities. They also felt like Wiz Kids, they didn't properly recall the movie.

She terrorizes a small group of kids, it's meh at best. Geriatric Park is a parody of Jurassic Park, old people got their DNA altered. They ended up making dinosaurs, it's a funny concept that's poorly executed. This entire episode felt like a major missed opportunity. I can't even recommend one to rewatch, they are mostly meh at best.

Treehouse of Horror 30 Season 31 2019-2020

1. Danger Things

2. Heaven Swipes Right

3. When Hairy Met Slimy

Danger Things is a parody of Stranger Things, it's also the best story by far. Sadly beyond this it doesn't get much better. I will say Danger Things is not a bad parody of that show. You kinda wish an entire hour could've been this parody instead. Heaven Swipes Right, Homer dies at a baseball game. It's kinda a spiritual successor to the ghost story where he also dies in.

He wasn't suppose to die but couldn't return to his body. He ended up in another body, then a few characters gets swapped as well. It quickly gets old in record time. When Hairy Met Slimy is a parody of The Shape of Water. Selma falls in love with an alien. Again, this felt rushed like no tomorrow as well.

Treehouse of Horror 31 Season 32 2020-2021

1. Toy Gory

2. Into the Homerverse

3. Be Nine, Rewind

Toy Gory is a parody of Toy Story, CGI animation to mirror that franchise. Honestly, I really enjoyed this more than I expected. A nice twist ending, I simply wanted more. Into the Homerverse is a parody of a Spider-Man movie, Homers takes on Mr. Burns. This quickly gets meh when the story gets going. They really could've done more even as a separate spin off episode like Not It.

Be Nine, Rewind is the second best story here. It's a parody of Happy Death Day, Lisa and Nelson kept dying repeatedly in a time loop. You would have more fun watching Groundhog Day with Bill Murray. I will say they had a lot of fun with this. The ending might be a little confusing, it works. There's no question it was the most creative story out of the three.

Treehouse of Horror 32 Season 33 2021-2022

1. Barti

2. Bong Joon Ho's This Side of Parasite

3. Nightmare on Elm Tree

4. Poetic Interlude

5. Dead Ringer

Barti, the opening to this episode is a parody of Bambi. You see a deer Simpsons family getting hunted not much more to say. Bong Joon Ho's This Side of Parasite was suppose to be a parody of Parasite. I can argue it really isn't Parasite at all. Nightmare on Elm Tree is among my least favorite stories to date. Seriously trees are killing people?

Vincent Price tells a story to Maggie. Within the story he's telling we have her brother Bart. There's a mess up ending as well. Dead Ringer is a parody of The Ring or Ringu depending where you are in the world. Honestly, this was a rather stupid parody of a good franchise. The dead girl decides to go back into the well because of Lisa, not a good ending.

Treehouse of Horror 33 Season 34 2022-2023

1. The Pookadook

2. Death Tome

3. Simpsons World

This is among my absolute favorite Treehouse of Horror episodes ever!!! All three of these stories are well done. I previously discussed them in greater detail. I will say I'm still deeply impressed by their work. A very big recommendation to check this Treehouse of Horror episode out. This really was the best episode of 2020 era for these episodes.

https://jackred1989.blogspot.com/2022/10/bonus-halloween-blog-49-my-thoughts-on.html

Treehouse of Horror 34 Season 35 2023-2024

1. Wild Barts Can't Be Token

2. Ei8ht

3. Lout Break

We finally made it to the most recent Treehouse of Horror episode. At the time of me writing this blog, Wild Barts Can't Be Token is kinda meh. Bart gets sent inside a digital collection while Marge goes in to rescue him. I just wish they went a little more creative with it. I will say Marge slaughtering digital characters was a nice touch though.

Ei8ht is a parody of Seven aka Se7en, a non canon version of a previous Sideshow Bob episode. I will say this one surprised me the most, I liked it a lot. I love the ending, it was well written. Lout Break, Homer causes a viral outbreak where everyone becomes Homers. This felt like a spiritual successor to Homer clones story.
