I do wanna point a few things out. I do plan to give a few quick reasons for my ranking. None of this is based on anyone else's opinions except my own. I know not every RE fan going to agree with this. Well you are welcome to present your own ranking down below. Just don't be nasty about it please. Honestly I'm quite excited to dive once again in the nightmare we know as Resident Evil series.
9. Resident Evil 6
Let's be honest no one in the entire world going to be surprise this is the worst among em. The most direct way to sum up all of it's failures is it's too much. You have a lot of these events directly connected. Some sections are altered versions what other campaigns goes through. Which isn't really saying much. There's barely any notable modes outside The Mercenaries.
This felt like a major step backwards. Simply too much action with too little horror. You could even argue how this isn't a proper RE game. The bosses are mostly repetitive that gets boring fast. Even the unlockables just aren't that exciting. There's some good songs I'll give it that. I can't shake Jake Muller being similar to DMC's Dante.
Shop feature suffers from the points system. Sure you can reload a few sections to grind up points. But I felt I easily could do way more doing the same in RE5!!! Obviously both Ada and Leon had the best campaigns. I simply recommend don't torture yourself playing Chris' campaign. I rather play a decent DMC game than this!!!
8. Resident Evil 0
I wanna say despite being ranked so low. I personally found more enjoyment in this than RE6. I was one of the select people that never minded swapping between characters. I also didn't care much about the notable lack of inventory boxes either. I know for some people this felt like a let down from Resident Evil 1 Remake.
For a prequel that goes into RE1 it's not bad. They dive deeper into the lore with Umbrella. We actually get to see what happened to the other S.T.A.R.S. team as well. I always enjoyed Leech Hunter a lot. I'm aware some dislike Wesker Mode. I simply love this version of the game more. The bosses are alright at best but still more rememberable than those of RE6.
Another major reason this gotten higher was the voice cast. In particular I loved Wesker's voice in this RE game a lot. Swapping between characters is more helpful than you expect. But I know some rather have questionable AI partners more. RE0 is a rather underrated RE game that deserves more respect. It's more RE than Silent Hill: Origins was to SH series.
7. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
I know some might not like this. For what it's worth I absolutely loved RE7 a lot. Some of the additional stuff made the game a little bit of a mess. There's plenty of notable fun to be had with this RE game. My favorite RE7 campaign by far is End of Zoe. I do respect they chosen to do an main RE game in FPS style.
This felt like a proper return to form for the franchise. I do wish there was a little more of a variety among the enemies. The puzzles I just wished were a little trickier to solve. It's a great entry point if you're new to the franchise. Resident Evil 7 is a truly fantastic game. It does have some flaws but notably better than the bottom two RE games.
Some people simply doesn't understand. Some stuff right at your face much scarier than doing it in third person mode. Not exactly the horror 3D effect either. Just wow oh okay stop it!!! There's a little of a learning curve to a degree. Honestly some of these characters are rememberable. Joe Baker in particular being my favorite new character.
6. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis
Considering I couldn't properly connect with this RE game. I will give this game a lot of credit it deserves. The story ended up being a great one. A huge variety of enemies to keep things interesting. Some unique mechanics despite either using a good guide or trying your luck to figure out. Such as making ammo eventually enhanced variation.
I wasn't a fan of it's mini game personally. It's surprisingly easy to die in this game. Some puzzles are very frustrating to solve. The game is notably shorter than the first two RE games. Nemesis stalking you at times makes situations worst. I know that's a huge part of the concept they're going for. Personally for what originally going to be an spin off RE game suddenly transformed into a main entry it's great.
I know I already confirmed I'm a bigger fan of Silent Hill 3. I can say this doesn't even felt rushed at all. Even if it did, just not as rushed as Silent Hill HD Collection on Xbox 360 lol. I did try to enjoy RE3 to similar degree other RE fans have. In all honestly this just isn't my RE experience. Even some of the spin offs like Code: Veronica X or both Revelations games way better to me.
5. Resident Evil
We wouldn't even be here right now if it weren't for the original Resident Evil. I confess I do prefer it's remake more. I do felt in some aspects the original version is a little better in. This cut scene going into the main menu once scared me a long time ago. The ratio of puzzles felt slightly more balanced as well. You get two characters with notable changes in their campaigns.
It's obviously easier to memorize the maps than it's remake version. At the same time, it's quite impressive what they pulled off. At one point this was originally going to be a remake of a licensed Famicom horror game called Sweet Home. Honestly, despite a few versions that change stuff to a degree.
You simply can't go wrong with this. Just avoid Director's Cut DualShock Edition lol. Unless you want the famous bad soundtrack version. Then by all means endure that suffering. It also has a good variety of enemies. This truly nailed the survival horror experience. This RE game is a must play at least once in your life.
4. Resident Evil Village
This might be another controversial pick. I personally deeply enjoyed this RE game. Sure you easily could argue it's more of an Castlevania game than an actual RE one. This felt like a more modernize of Resident Evil 4 before it's remake. To me this was a huge step up from RE7. I simply liked the characters more.
Duke being your merchant in the original campaign just stands out. I love all the major locations you get to explore. This was a rather unique take on the concept. I simply wished Capcom didn't rush the conclusion to the Winters Family story arc with Shadows of Rose DLC. In all honestly, this game was truly impressive in every sense of the word.
People stopped caring it's not directly called RE8. They later added in third person mode. Mostly for Shadows of Rose that worked well. I do question it's usage for Ethan's campaign though. Some of my favorite bosses to date. A fantastic soundtrack with truly amazing sound effects. This RE game is worthy of it's Game of the Year awards it won.
3. Resident Evil 5
I always really enjoyed Resident Evil 5 myself. I would even say there's no bad sections at all. Although I really wish the ending portions were done very differently. This is the perfect co-op RE experience. Even playing by yourself you work with an AI partner to get through the game. There's no merchant but a sick shop feature.
Every single mode is truly a lot of fun. You get some awesome outfits as well. The unlockables are very well done. A great selection of enemies including the bosses. Resident Evil 5 made some great improvements over RE4. Obviously with high expectations this RE game really delivered. I am not kidding this is still one of the greatest Capcom games I ever played!!!
I wanted to say for my top 2 Resident Evil games. This was a rather difficult decision to make. Both easily could've been the best in many ways. I simply love both of these more than the rest of these. Even right now I'm still in the process of deciding which RE game I like just a little more. Both meant so much to me making this so hard!!!
2. Resident Evil 4
This particular Resident Evil 4 is still among my most played through Capcom games to date. I do agree it's remake somehow superior. But even this classic version is a damn great game!!! Resident Evil 4 was a dramatically change from the previous entries. Just like Dino Crisis 2, this ended up being an incredibly fun, unique experience.
The merchant is among my favorite characters. Majority of them really stands out. The weapons are among the most fun in the franchise. A great variety of enemies including the bosses. Some of which are in Separate Ways. The Mercenaries is a fun mini game that's a must play. Among the best voice acting in the series as well.
Replay value is really through the roof here. Sometimes less is more when comparing the newer RE games. This game further made Leon a household name. This won several Game of the Year awards. Hands down the Wii version is the best I ever played!!! Even with some issues you are having too much to fun to care.
1. Resident Evil 2
I kept coming back to a few reasons why I ranked RE2 higher than RE4. Resident Evil 2 was the very RE game I became an life long fan of the franchise for. Sure some of the mini games are alright at best. Extreme Battle mode is a lot of fun though. Not only you get two playable characters. You also get two versions of their campaigns as well.
A crazy total of four campaigns you can play. Which was rather impressive Capcom pulled this off. Yes some versions requires two discs to swap between. Somehow an N64 cartridge contained all those scenarios. I do respect it's GameCube port to a degree. Even the version on GOG is quite amazing. You get some truly rememberable characters.
Some awesome secrets including a few spots you actually shoot the camera. The soundtrack is still among my personal favorites for an Capcom game. The sound effects alone is a major reason why I love this so much!!! You get a lot of great stuff for a two disc RE game. Obviously it's a huge step up from the original in many ways.
Some great puzzles with truly rememberable locations to explore. A huge variety of enemies including the bosses. Some fantastic weapons including the hidden ones. Resident Evil 2 really went the distance. Especially considering what we almost gotten before scrapped. They had to start over to end up giving us this master piece is truly impressive stuff.
