Brotato (2023) review

Hello everyone I'm XboxClown89, here's a particular game I been playing on and off Game Pass for a few months. I previously played hours of Vampire Survivors. Then I ran into Brotato which funny enough I ended up liking more. I kinda felt bad I literately just found out Xbox versions of this game came out last year.

Which means I could've had it in my Games of 2024 list had I known sooner. It's a real shame too because I really enjoyed this game a lot. It would've ranked high as well for that matter. I also wasn't ready at the time of that list to even review this game. I guess the more honorable thing to do is give it a late honorable mention for that list.

Brotato (2023)

Similar to Vampire Survivors and Renfield: Bring Your Own Blood. Brotato is a similar style game you play as potatoes I'm serious. Each potato character differs in a few ways to help em stand out more. I could be wrong I think each character has their own stage. Don't expect a lot of stages as in Renfield or any stage being looping repeatedly like in Vampire Survivors.

You might be surprise a few areas I felt Brotato does better in. Such as melee is mind blowing in comparison to those games. Melee with the right set up you destroy bosses quickly. You can also use projectiles as well as guns during the game play. Most potato characters can wield up to six weapons. Which kinda crazy when you think about it.

They can be either the same weapon or each hand wielding six different weapons. I do love the randomness factor in what you could get. After finishing levels you can use your currency to get some upgrades or additional stuff that could help to some degree. The leveling is balanced for the most part. Sometimes you level up faster while other times it'll be notably slower.

You also can make your run make Endless which is a lot of fun too. I didn't like in Vampire Survivors, how they went about time limits. Where reapers instantly comes to kill you even if you have multiple lifes. I do greatly appreciate Brotato doesn't do that. I also liked the interesting art style as well. There's a lot of achievements that's fun to go for.

The stages are roughly big enough. Some later levels if you are doing normal runs will get a lot of enemies. There's a lot of potato characters to play as. I don't own the game neither the DLC which adds more characters. I can tell you this game will keep you busy for hours. Brotato is a surprisingly fun roguelike shooter game.

I personally love the audio in this as well. I'm quite impress with everything they were able to pull off. I also love I can play this with one hand too. Literately just moving one of the thumb sticks you're good to go. Maybe I love potatoes too damn much lol. I never thought this game going to be this much fun!!! A high recommendation to please go check this out it's currently on Game Pass if you're on Xbox.

Now I figured I might get ask not to cheat my list in question or anything. This is simply what if Brotato had made the list. Where would the game be within that rank? Well I would say likely in number 5 where Puppet Master: The Game currently ranked at. In all honestly, it's a great game to play that's surprisingly refreshing.
