Sweet Home lives within Resident Evil franchise

Hi everyone I'm Jack Red, it is no secret Sweet Home on Famicom became one of the major inspirations for Resident Evil. Some consider the original Alone in the Dark trilogy may also been inspiration in many ways. Considering the original Resident Evil came two years after Alone in the Dark 3 I would say that makes sense.

What I am here to talk about is how Resident Evil keeping the spirit of Sweet Home alone today. You would be very surprised how much Resident Evil took from Sweet Home. Also Capcom is supposedly considering to remake Sweet Home. I felt this is a great topic for fellow Resident Evil fans.

The original Resident Evil had a similar location. A couple RE games had different door loading screens while Sweet Home reused the same one regardless of which door. Some of the conditions for endings depending saving a fellow S.T.A.R.S. member or leaving them behind. In Sweet Home, depending on how many of your playable characters survives the final boss fight determines that.

Some enemies like zombies, undead dogs and worms inspired a lot of Resident Evil monsters. Some puzzles in Sweet Home inspired the early RE puzzles. Resident Evil: Revelations 2 has different equipment & what they can do similar to Sweet Home. Both RE0 & Revelations 2 allows you to switch between characters during the game play just like Sweet Home.

Surprisingly Resident Evil VII probably took some inspiration from this game too. Such as dealing with death traps or very limited inventory slots. A group of  a film crew was involved in REVII & Sweet Home. Outbreak series came the close of having four playable characters on screen at the same time. In Sweet Home you have up to five playable characters.

There is even a chance Sweet Home & Resident Evil series inspired The Evil Within series. Although that was made by a different company, Shinji Mikami the creator of Resident Evil made those games. Back tracking is expected among several RE games. Originally back tracking in Sweet Home was done a little differently.

Due to being able to move two groups or those with one person going by themselves. Most bosses in Sweet Home are doppelgangers of your playable characters respectively. Speaking of them, some RE1 characters had similar traits to those of Sweet Home. For example Rebecca & Akiko are medics of their respective games.

Chris & Kazuo had a lighter in their inventory that can be used in puzzles. Jill & Emi can easily unlock stuff. One strange connection since Dead Rising does reference Resident Evil a lot. Frank & Taro wears around a camera. The death animation originally occurs in Sweet Home while RE series has several different death animations.

You can look around files or some pictures to learn more of the story. Early on Resident Evil has done this. Resident Evil VII is the most recent to carry that torch. The final boss goes through several forms. A reoccurring theme in Resident Evil series. Sweet Home had quick events that some RE games like RE4, RE5. and both Chronicles series does that.

In earlier RE games has a lot of keys you need in order to get further in the game. There is some items that does the same purpose late in the game. Keys is a must in Sweet Home if something happens to Emi. Honestly I can keep going but I think by now you do see my point. Resident Evil series is essentially the spiritual successor to Sweet Home.

One interesting fact is although Sweet Home was one of the early horror games that so happened to have RPG elements. There are similar games that didn't get as popular despite being common in the United States. Until 2007 with BioShock, there wasn't a lot of examples of those kind of games. I believe Dead Rising series does the RPG elements the best although Fallout series is truly amazing stuff.
