Cultic: Interlude and Chapter 2 review

Hello everyone I'm XboxClown89, it's not often I do an updated review on something. I strongly felt it was necessary for the classic, Cultic. I didn't realize I didn't cover Interlude yet. I recently gotten Chapter 2 myself. I figured why not cover both of them together.

Here's a link to my review on Cultic prior to these newer levels down below...

Cultic: Interlude (2023)
Before I talk about it I simply love the concept behind it. Many similar style FPS games don't make in between levels. In particular levels that act as a direct means to connect campaigns together. So when I saw this last year I was surprised. Officially it's one huge level packed with stuff.

I don't recommend skipping the first campaign to play this. There's so many enemies with a lot going on. I also recommend try going slow for the most part. You easily can get ambush in this level at many locations. I'm glad this level exists it helped people to wait to play Chapter 2.

I know some felt this one bridging the gap level was a little too big. Honestly it was a clear idea how much more ambitious Chapter 2 going to be. Thankfully you get this level free through an update. After awhile you'll figure stuff out with some taking a little longer than expected.

Honestly, Interlude was a great but risky idea. This easily could've went south. I should mention at the end of the level. This isn't a short level by any means either. There is a boss fight that may challenge you. I loved how everything came together the way it does.

Cultic: Chapter 2 (2024)
I know some people who are familiar with my Cultic review. Probably rather know my thoughts on Chapter 2 right? I waited since 2022 to play this. I knew as soon as I started. This was going to be a vastly different ball game from the first campaign. I was proud to buy this newer campaign.

Everything was a massive step up in comparison. I'm not trying to say the first campaign sucks by any means. If you haven't played Cultic at all. You're really missing out on a truly fantastic FPS game!!! I loved just like the first campaign. We get a good variety of locations to explore.

Some could view this as being heavily inspired by Blood the classic DOS FPS game. This newer campaign felt like a modernize Blood experience. The animations including the newer enemies were amazing. Chapter 2 plays notably more into horror.

I really gotta mention I thought some of the levels in the first campaign were big. Nah these levels were quite massive!!! It's so easily to get lost or confuse what to do. I did like some of the surprises. Like tie in another game the developer has on Steam called The Bonerooms.

Keep in mind, one guy made all of this!!! The soundtrack to Chapter 2 is absolutely amazing!!! This quickly justifies it's price making it a sell when discounted. I actually watched a few YouTubers stream this. This is already among my favorite FPS games ever!!!

Of course, there's a couple boss fights through out the campaign. Easily out doing Episode 5 of Duke Nukem 3D in the newest version. If I was mind blown by the first campaign. I probably no longer have a head at this point. This newer campaign was among my favorite 2025 runs of the year.

I'm even considering making an exception for an December blog entry for this. Chapter 2 is a true master piece. You may die a lot on the way. You often get overwhelmed by the enemies. Especially in very difficult to see spots. This was such an refreshing FPS experience.

Chapter 2 truly delivers in what it sent out to do. You're getting a couple hours long campaign. Some truly amazing artwork through out the levels. None of the levels felt like stuff we done before. The boss fights for the most part stands out.

This is exactly why I love Cultic so much!!! The solo developer put out some truly impressive work here. I started writing this prior to Blood: Refreshed Supply announcement too. All of a sudden, Cultic picked a great year to fully come back.

You also gotta get use to facing several different enemies at once. Majority of them fires weapons at you. But you got an handful that has a few ways to attack you. Other enemies forces themselves at you with such little time to react.

There's times you get a good mix of most enemy types. I also gotta say Train Station level I was mind blown by it. I won't fully spoil why but this is how you make an FPS level for sure. You also could upgrade your weapons to help a bit.

I also gotta say the final boss was the toughest by far. I just love how it starts out. The cult leader speaking before he turns around. Suddenly gets shot in the head to become the final boss. It's best to think of him as this game's Shao Kahn.

Just more about blood than souls in that regard. I will say a huge step up from the first campaign's final boss. This was a rather challenging campaign. But it also was so satisfying to finish after everything. Honestly Cultic: Chapter 2 was worthy for an award in my December blog.

I will confirm I don't wanna hear you're giving something to Cultic. Don't worry it may not be within the lineup of Games I played this year. At the same time, this newer campaign was worthy of such an lineup to get such an honor.

This campaign was worth every penny I spent. I would've paid double that price honestly. Not to give the developer any ideas lol. For it's price we're getting this campaign. Along with an handful of levels for another mode was a great idea.
