Hi everyone I'm Jack Red, I always will be a huge Twisted Metal fan despite playing more recently on Xbox consoles. I just watched a video by David Jaffe on YouTube talking about the state of Twisted Metal franchise. Some of the stuff he said caught my attention to make this blog. A lot of us still want a new Twisted Metal game to play.
I figured to give a top 5 lists of the stuff that I really would like to see in a new installment. Now a lot of people could agree or disagree. I honestly could care less since this is strictly my opinion on how to possibly make Twisted Metal great again. This franchise started something big that sadly got crapped on by some game companies.
5. Please attempt new ideas to spice up the car combat madness
Some people simply wants car combat while others something more like GTA series. One of it's competitors Vigilante 8 gave objectives while taking out your opponents. Twisted Metal in newer games had some interesting concepts. For me obviously I want Sweet Tooth to return. I also want some nice game play concepts.
In Twisted Metal: Black and Small Brawl you had to explore levels to unlock hidden characters. You don't have to give us huge ambitious boss fights. I was fine taking on Dark Tooth in TM2. Hell hidden areas like in many levels could have mini games for us to play. Considering there never was officially a Twisted Metal game compilation of any kind.
A good number of those games can be unlockables or place in as mini games. Especially for those that never got to play many of these classics. If you go the light route don't make it like TMIII and Small Brawl please. To me it took too much away from the dark, mysterious world of Twisted Metal. I rather have my Twisted Metal games being dark with great stories.
4. Make the world similar to what canned Black sequel intended on doing
According to PS2 port of Head-On, some of it's developers died in a plane crash. They did have some of their concepts to create Twisted Metal: Lost. I believe a huge part of the planned sequel was a big open world connecting all the levels. This feature by itself would've predated stuff like GTA Online. You don't have to wait long to go between levels.
Considering this concept wasn't finalized before. The Twisted Metal team could really do a lot with that concept. You could explore more than you usual do in most Twisted Metal games to find some nice surprises. I was very surprised not even Twisted Metal PS3 didn't do that. Despite some of it's similarities to Twisted Metal: Black.
You could have particular conditions for hidden bosses or power ups. I would love to see driving up a building from the ground floor or parking garage now that would be awesome. Twisted Metal deserves a lot more praise than it currently gets. You could work in so much content to keep gamers busy for a long time.
3. By making it online with plenty of ways to customize the experience
Although the number of people playing several Twisted Metal games isn't as big as many games. The fan base is willing to bring back servers to allow online play. Not many fan bases has that going for it. I felt it is time for a major change for this series. Considering how well many games are doing online.
I do believe in the right hands with the proper care. This new Twisted Metal game is going to blow people away. Not only they will be constantly added stuff but also have things you can buy. They really should take a page from Injustice 2. Please allow us to customize our characters like that game. You can make any vehicle of your choice slower but more power or faster but not as accurate in firing weapons.
This alone could be exactly what Twisted Metal needs to survive. I did heard about Twisted Metal PS3's multiplayer. A good amount of that must be in the new Twisted Metal game. Hell give us a map editor to allow us to create our own levels. You can truly bring the fan service & being close to the fans at the same time.
2. Calypso could be use as in game mission system including rare stuff
Obviously Calypso grants a wish from whoever is the victor of his contest. I think they could have him act as the person giving you events, missions or confirming a Twisted Metal tournament. Calypso is there for all the carnage, violent and blood. I felt this is the single best way of having him in the game.
Events that could increase your rank or gain rare parts you can use on your vehicles. Missions similar to Vigilante 8 in nature with the Twisted Metal twist. He could give out boss missions that would require several players to take it on together. Many MMORPG games has very big boss enemies that takes a ridiculous amount of people with no guarantee of success.
Hell it is a Twisted Metal game it should allow us to compete in the tournament. Honestly it would piss me off if that isn't in the game at all. Of course gaming is quickly going from single player offline games to massively online multiplayer games in the last decade. This could allow a lot of players to compete against each other in that style especially those who grew up playing them.
1. Allow the fans to create their own stories
Twisted Metal 4 allowed us to create up to thirty characters. Despite some of it's options being limited I still like the feature a lot. Now let's take it up a step further a lot of fans has theories of several characters. Why not allow them to recreate their very own fantasies in game? I think by doing this feature it will bring a lot more people into the game.
Hell I can imagine some silly but still dark stories while others will attempt to recreate Black style stories. All I ask is don't limit our choices in how we can create our own story. I really don't want to see endings similar to TMIII please. By doing this it helps get players more into the game long term. Nintendo did Super Mario Maker allowing almost everyone's custom levels online.
Thus also allowing other people playing those levels. If Nintendo found success with that then why can't Sony do the same with this? Just imagine it really will be our very own Twisted Metal world. All the ridiculous possibilities are literately at our finger tips. A truly unique experience that might even be unable to recreate is something rare in gaming.
