I wanna discuss the newer trailers of the upcoming Silent Hill F. They also confirmed Silent Hill 1 Remake by the same team responsible for SH2 Remake. I figured to composite all my SH thoughts together. Silent Hill always viewed as Resident Evil's biggest rival. Of course, I had to pay attention to it's main competition.
Silent Hill F is a dramatically different take on the concept. Previously a few Silent Hill games like Silent Hill: Homecoming had the same fog came to a nearby town. Instead we're getting full on Japanese style horror. Which can get quite freaky for those that haven't seen much of those horror movies. The Rings series is the US counterpart to Ringu series in Japan.
Which possibly inspired SH4 to a degree. It's a little weird how Silent Hill set up it's main series. This will quickly get confusing as a fair warning. Up to SH4 it's very straight forward. Considering that's the entire original SH series by Team Silent before they disbanded. Then Konami allowed other companies to make Silent Hill games.
This is where the monkey wrench gets thrown. Silent Hill: Origins is a prequel to the original Silent Hill. Silent Hill: Homecoming aka SH5 has a cameo of Origins' protagonist. Silent Hill more commonly does rather loose connections between the games. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is a retelling of the original Silent Hill set in an alternate universe.
Silent Hill: Downpour aka SH6 release the same year as Resident Evil 6 funny enough. Directly following that is Silent Hill 2 Remake. Currently awaiting for Silent Hill F's release. This also makes comparing to Resident Evil more confusing. I'll give an example you have the choose between Origins or Homecoming to compare to RE5.
Origins because it was the fifth entry released. But Homecoming actually was essentially Silent Hill 5. I guess it's up to your views which you wanna compare here. Especially Resident Evil considers it's remake series as it's own lineup of games. You also gotta consider the upcoming Silent Hill 1 Remake as well. Which further makes comparing the first entries more confusing.
Personally keep the original versions by themselves. Do the same with the newer remake versions. This should help somewhat with the confusion you may experience. Now I got all of that off my chest I'll finally discuss these two upcoming Silent Hill games. We went a notable long time with little to go regarding Silent Hill F.
The big thing being the same company responsible for two online multiplayer RE games making it. Just going by the original trailer among the freakiest Silent Hill games I ever seen!!! More recently more trailers showed up. You can tell they took their sweet time to get this to be right. This should be essentially Silent Hill 7.
Which indirectly adds salt to those who loved P.T. a lot. This was a famous canceled SH game demo that had Norman Reedus. You know the actor famous playing Daryl Dixon in The Walking Dead shows!!! Sadly Kojima was arguing heavily with Konami. Which directly affected Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain in the long run.
This game kept reminding heavily of Hell's Paradise. Which also involve plants being used similar to this. This was meant to reboot the concept of the franchise. I will give em some credit this wasn't what I was expecting. It's quite risky to directly focus on Japanese style horror outside of Japan. Then again considering all the risks indie developers doing in horror video games.
I could say this has just as much of a chance as many of those horror games. I don't think it's going to be better than SH2 Remake though. It does have a shot being among the best SH games. Personally the game makes me feel uncomfortable. Which is a great sign of what could be a good horror game. I also gotta say this SH game looks absolutely amazing!!!
I'm also glad this going to be vastly different from the other Silent Hill games. It's a huge risk let's get that out the way. At the same time, this franchise desperately needed something quite different. Something to get people's attention again. I strongly felt this was a rather interesting direction to go in. A few months from now this SH game finally getting released.
Although if it were to get delayed. Things could start to fall apart for the SH game. I'm also hoping Konami doesn't act like Konami about it either. They desperately wanna rip people off. They do also have an casino business. A major reason why I'm more funny about considering to play this or not. I do think this SH game could be a surprise hit.
Not to be rude I rather directly discuss SH1 Remake. Before I do though I must apologize to SH2 Remake. I actually watched someone I moderated on Twitch played a few playthroughs of it. My friend never played the original SH2 game to clarify. I was quite blown away by this remake. This even surpassed most RE remakes for that matter.
Obviously any is better than RE3 Remake that's no surprise. But the fact it's actually superior to some of them is rather quite impressive. GOG earlier this year gotten this version onto their service. I can tell Bloober are huge SH fans indeed. It's interesting they decided to remake SH2 first. Although SH2 is more of it's own thing like some entries.
The rest of them are directly connected. I will confessed I played SH1 through an unofficial PC port. I actually played through it twice when I had the chance years ago. I was quite impressed by the PS1 horror game. I still prefer SH2 and SH3 more though. Bloober is carefully expanding things while keeping it true to the original SH games.
If this ends up being an success. A lot of people including myself knows SH3 right around the corner. Which was a direct sequel to SH1. In fact on GOG's Wishlist, one of my most upvoted comments actually on Silent Hill 3's page. Silent Hill 3 always meant a lot to me. There's a chance they might change some ending conditions or add in more endings.
The original version already has five endings. Personally UFO Ending my favorite among em. I do think this going to be vastly different from the original version as well as Shattered Memories version. Of course, some people also going to directly compare the original live action SH movie. Which was directly based on the original Silent Hill game.
For those that doesn't know the story without major spoilers. Harry with his daughter Cheryl came to the mysterious town of Silent Hill. Suddenly the little girl goes missing leading to her dad start searching around for her. Team Silent paid close attention to several aspects of the original Resident Evil.
Which is exactly what led to this rivalry. It's virtually like comparing apples to oranges. We all can agree both are fruits but also vastly different in plenty of ways as well. Resident Evil is more physical while Silent Hill always been more directly mental. Let's be honest, Capcom lucky Konami didn't sue over Shadows of Rose DLC just saying.
There's also a chance some new bosses could get added in. Hidden weapons wise, some of them needs to be revamped to a degree. I'm already exciting a ridiculous price for just the game itself. Silent Hill 1 Remake should terrified the world not become a laughing stock of the franchise. I'm very sure those that played SH2 Remake going in with ridiculously high standards for this too.
End of the day, they are just thankful to bring these classics in a way that's rather refreshing. Virtually giving em new life for newer SH fans to experience. I can't even imagine how Bloober would go about remaking SH4 for that matter. I'm still deeply impressed they made a superior version of SH2 I said it!!! SH2 in particular always been my favorite SH game.
If Bloober gets exactly what they need. We're about to get another home run!!! You also gotta consider they are remaking an late 90s PS1 game. Some people might be a little too unrealistic about how to go about such a thing. My main concern is this remake remains faithful to the original version. If it doesn't do that I simply don't care anymore about the game.
Silent Hill used to have these rather unique views on things. Several cut scenes after you realize additional stuff. You realize how truly deep everything in the earlier SH games is. Which I hope continues through this newer version as well. Silent Hill 1 Remake still has a shot in many ways. I don't personally expect it to be better than SH2 Remake.
I do think by default it's better than majority of the franchise. Especially with the increase care SH2 Remake gotten. Clearly Bloober understood what Team Silent done. Konami doesn't even understand what their own franchise is. At least they were willing to allow other developers a try. Partly they're more focus on their casino business.
I'm just thankful some of these horror games coming back. You don't know torture until you play Silent Hill HD Collection on Xbox consoles. Which never gotten fixed by the way good luck with that lol. I also think they will make several locations stand out more. If I could name a particular location I really want that treatment for.
The same location gotten added into Dead by Daylight. The famous school needs a lot of stuff to truly stand out. Obviously they don't have to do much about the hospital. No one felt comfortable while exploring that place in any SH games lol. They also got a rather unique boss fight that plays into the multiple endings as a condition.
For those not familiar with the game. The police officer Cybil gets possessed later on. You are given a choice to save her life or take it? Just know you may have to look up how to save her life. This is essentially a precursor to bosses like Eddie in SH2. I loved they went for such a concept. Especially for the first entry in a survival horror franchise.
There's also depending on conditions one of two final bosses you could face for most of the endings. Indirectly Silent Hill 2 done that to a degree. But these are vastly different bosses in comparison. Which makes more curious to see how Bloober goes about that concept. For all we know they might even add on a third final boss.
You can tell I got high expectations for this remake. I'm expecting possibly mid 2027 for it's release. Which also helps them planning out SH3 Remake with the additional time. I rather they have all the time they need than rushing em to finish poor remakes of classic survival horror games. Well that's my thoughts on many Silent Hill stuff I hope you enjoyed.
