Excluding additional versions we got eight Mortal Kombat games with more to be announced. It's technically six games with a few versions of Mortal Kombat 3. I'm surprised Mortal Kombat Advance a famous bad version of UMK3 from Game Boy Advance coming back. I was more of an MKII person myself.
If it weren't for two of the announced MK games. I originally was going to say they cover up to MK4. However they also including two GBA versions of Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. Which was rather interesting because it implies we may get the actual console version or not. If we do you could also expect Mortal Kombat: Deception and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon as well.
From Deadly Alliance the franchise left Arcades to directly focus on game console market. These 3D MK games are packed with content to keep you busy for hours. I highly doubt Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe going to show up. It technically an out of place spin off crossover game. It's failure along with DC regretting how they handled the game led to Injustice series.
You also would need a disc to play that crossover game on newer Xbox consoles. They already confirmed Mortal Kombat (2011 game) aka MK9 not included. The big issue is very early on it's Story Mode. We get to see how the original MK timeline ends. But Raiden prior to his defeat sent visions to his past self to alter the future.
It's essentially an altered retelling of the first three MK games. Not to mention depending on platform has one or two guest characters. I don't think WB Games going to go through the trouble getting them both again. I'm actually fine it's not included in this upcoming compilation MK game. Considering this could be MK 1-7 plus more MK games in one huge kollection.
Mortal Kombat series was a notable fighting game franchise in my life. In some form I'm usually playing a lot of these MK games. Minus MK1 which I still strongly dislike. I may not support the future of the franchise. I always be thankful for it's past. Obviously this is going to bring back a lot of memories.
Also knowing they are doing the unique behind the scenes Digital Eclipse done in a few compilation games. You can expect a ridiculous amount of surprises. They also confirmed to simplify some secrets. It would be nice to finally face MK1 Reptile. I previously owned Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection years ago.
It's safe to say just from that announcement trailer it's already topped. Some of their compilation games are rather ambitious in many ways. This could be seen as a lot of people's dream MK game. In my mind it's about time Mortal Kombat gets it's turn. Especially considering they previously done Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Edition.
Again going by that trailer this way better as well. Then again I always supported MK over SF for a long time. Who would thought going on vacation this came out of no where? This is among my most wanted right now I'm not kidding!!! This could even end up as my 2025 Game of the Year. I do think this is going to be absolutely mind blowing pun very intended lol.
I still got to talk about what other MK games I think possibly included. There were four particular MK games I kept coming back to. I am well aware two of these are bad MK games. Mortal Kombat: Special Forces is often in debates for the absolute worst MK game ever!!! It's a famous bad spin off game with a rough development cycle.
Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero was the original MK spin off game. A small concept on PS1 version was meant to get people ready for MK4. This actually took place before the original MK. You play as the original Sub-Zero taking on Gods. It's a curious piece of MK history than anything else. Mortal Kombat Gold is one I see a lot of people throwing out.
It's an updated version of MK4 on Sega Dreamcast. They basically added a little more of everything. I do think it deserves to be in this kollection as well. The one MK game I felt that must be in there. Mortal Kombat Trilogy virtually everyone saying this game needs to be included. MKT is an second updated version of MK3 with more everything.
Some of which added MK 1 and 2 content respectively. This is the most complete MK3 experience. Personally they should aim for PC version that's on GOG. PS1 version's load times can differ to a degree. You won't have that issue in the PC version. Despite being a victim of the famous difficulty glitch.
This MK game really packed with great stuff. It's critical for this kollection to have that in there!!! I know some people quickly jumped on. "Oh they are doing this to save themselves." I'm sure most parties really wanted to do this. Regardless of MK1's failure or not. This franchise has plenty of interesting things about it.
If WB Games doesn't rush it out. Like Konami rushed out Yu-Gi-Oh! Early Days Collection. I do think this easily going to be among Digital Eclipse's best selling games. This should have plenty of fan service. As close to everything like TMNT: The Cowabunga Collection as inhumanly possible. This should be among the most played MK games ever!!!
It's difficult to say how this going to affect the franchise's future. What I do know for sure is thousands of people going to be over joyed playing this!!! Plenty of the finest MK games with some of the best ports. It's a little weird they didn't confirm Sega Genesis pot of UMK3. At least people that came across my MK meme better understands my point.
These Genesis ports are way better than MK1. I would be surprise if DOS ports of the first three MK games shows up as well. Which I do own em on GOG, some of the best ports I played. In particular DOS port of MK3 by default has better customizable controls. Plus by default infinite continues it's a must play.
Honestly it won't affect much if those DOS ports aren't included. Hell having MK 1-7 in one compilation MK game is enough already. But of course this is Mortal Kombat!!! They had to go much bigger than that. I was happy to see Sega 32X port of MKII in the lineup. Some even say the best Sega port of MKII ever!!!
Another weird MK game missing even if some may consider this being rather minor. Sega CD version of MK1 has some cool changes from the Genesis port. It's virtually an improved Genesis MK1 port. Similar to Sega 32X port is to the Genesis MKII port. Which also had a famous song from the original live action MK movie.
I'm also glad finally another compilation game includes something from Sega Game Gear. Some people are also expecting Game.com version of MKT as well. Which isn't anything to write home at lol. It's debatable if they include that version. It's not on people's radar as the classic handheld ports. There's also a chance we might also get the N64 version of MKT.
Which had a lot of noticeable changes from the PS1 version. I know some MK fans be fine this version got left out. I argue for this to be very true to it's name of being the most komplete MK kollection. They have to include that version as well. In that regard how about Mortal Kombat: Unchained?
It's an updated version of Mortal Kombat: Deception on PSP. Which added two characters previously added in it's GameCube port. Being Shao Kahn and Goro respectively. They add in four more characters that help tie in better with Deadly Alliance. They also added in Endurance as a new Survival Mode.
Survival Mode is an endless endurance of how many people you can beat before you lose. You also can cheat by quickly stage fatality em to a degree. This is the most komplete version of the game. As for Mortal Kombat: Armageddon it's better they go for the Wii version. Not a lot of people know this. In this version, they added Khameleon into a rather huge roster of characters.
Otherwise you aren't missing much by not playing this. Which is sad considering how amazing some of these MK ports are. Not to mention some of the updated versions still among my favorite MK games to date. Maybe how my vision of this concept differs notably from Digital Eclipse's or right on the money?
They could include Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins as a bonus. It's a lesser known tie in MK movie to the original MK movie. Let's talk both Mega Man X Legacy Collection games as an example. They both include a prequel OVA to the first Mega Man X game. Including this animated MK movie finally frees it from being VHS exclusive.
You heard correctly this particular MK movie isn't even rereleased on DVD. But considering a lot of stuff good or bad gotten it to a degree. It further bags the question why the hell not? I really could see the MK team as well as Digital Eclipse team having a lot of fun. They both realize all the insanity they could do to easily spice things up.
There's also a huge chance they may discuss the original live action MK movies. It also demands where they draw the line at. This is meant to help get newer MK fans more into the franchise. At the same time, us older MK fans wants justice in every sense of it's presentation. We expect the usual MK perfection coughs MK1 not that lol.
I always heavily disliked Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. Among the first video game movies I didn't like. I had plenty of issues with it. Let's put it this way most MK movies way better than this!!! I could even argue how somehow Game.com version of MKT better as well. I'm not sugar coating how bad this MK movie truly is!!!
I would do 1992-2007 stopping right before the crossover game. I know some could argue including it due to being the final Midway MK game before bankruptcy. To me that MK game kinda there in every sense of the word. Including it could cause some confusion while virtually none doing the opposite.
They may also discuss some of the MK shows of that era. Stick with the original live action MK movie. I also hope they talk about the MK comics as well. I recently during my vacation seen one of the issues in a huge store. There's also people quickly jumping on Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. Some could view this being a precursor to MK9.
Hard to believe we had the same company responsible for Street Fighter cartoon show. Not any of the Japanese shows for that matter. The famous US cartoon SF cartoon show also made this MK cartoon show. Now let me ask you a question. What do you absolutely love about the franchise? Fatalities well you get virtually none at all.
The violence is so tone down it makes the famous SNES MK1 port seem hardcore!!! Mortal Kombat: Conquest served as a prequel to the games aka timeline 1. At that point in time, MK couldn't properly nail prequels. We had an Sub-Zero game that failed. We also had an Jax game that sucked more so. Now this show not a lot of people remembers.
Indirectly the newer animated MK movies attempted similar concepts years later. They clearly nail sequels continuing the story forward. Somehow trying to tell stories in prequels just doesn't work. Which is incredibly weird for this franchise. Some could easily see how this led to MK11 to a degree. Honestly the MK team learned from some of their big mistakes.
In terms of this spin off MK game is an non canon retelling of Mortal Kombat II. They may remove it's MKII port that's directly pulled from Midway Arcade Treasures 2. I do recall getting up to the later Scorpion boss fight. MK games like this getting into this compilation. "Shut up and take my money!!!"
This was before Mortal Kombat: Armageddon's release. It's currently the best spin off MK game ever!!! It's not a surprise a lot of people missed out playing this!!! Adding online multiplayer to this people won't stop playing it!!! Obviously this is a must for this MK kollection. Digital Eclipse proven with a few compilation games they can handled a lot of platforms with a lot of games.
Atari 50 by itself has over an hundred games with several games added in through DLCs. You also gotta realize some of these not confirmed MK games. Easily has a lot more content than those confirmed within the same kollection. The replay value for this needs to be ridiculously high!!! There's more than enough additional stuff they can discuss.
This needs to be a massive blast of nostalgia. I'm also hoping this gets onto GOG as well like Gex Trilogy surprisingly done recently. Even considering a lot of secrets the franchises widely known for. You already have a lot of reasons to check this out!!! This is going to be the stuff of legends!!! If some of the essential MK games not in there.
I'm likely not going to buy this!!! It's not often I get rather particular games I hope to see in a compilation game. Let's talk Jurassic Park Classic Games Collection for an example. Originally they didn't announced two of the Sega Genesis games. Which made some people either upset or worried like myself.
Thankfully they listened to the fans to include those games. Now I'm also aware that's Limited Run Games that's also responsible for Gex Trilogy. They operate differently from Digital Eclipse in many ways. Ultimately both created an engine to revive classic video games. Right now I'm still quite sold on getting this.
It's depending what the rest of the lineup going to be. Which is going to rather make or break this kollection. Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection needs to hit the ground running or be forgotten. I'm trying to be somewhat open minded about this. At the same time, not having Trilogy, Shaolin Monks and Deception a rather trouble pill to swallow.
Mortal Kombat: Deception always been among my favorite MK games. I even enjoyed Unchained version a lot. I don't even see that being a down grade to the console versions. You virtually get all that content plus a handful more characters. Not to mention easier to access online matches from the PS2 version.
I would be fine they just include Unchained version in the compilation. I strongly felt they won't leave any stones left unturned here. It also would be weird to not include the console version of Deadly Alliance. Some MK fans get upset over that. Again I rather play Deception over Deadly Alliance myself.
A much better take on The Krypt. They even made several aspects of it more interesting. Konquest Mode in particular was my favorite. It's still among my favorite Story Modes they ever done!!! It's not better than MK9's though. I still say it's technically better than the two newer MK game's Story Modes.
I always been somewhat mixed about Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. The short version is Midway should've planned to making it more of then next gen MK game. It barely was that with the final Wii version. It simply had too much content that heavily impacted the game. We're talking over sixty characters in one MK game.
Keep in mind, this was pre-DLC MK era too. Kreate a Fatality was incredibly flawed. Motor Kombat ended up being the best section of the entire game. A Mario Kart style mini game no less is rather pathetic!!! Midway was rushing games out around this point in time. Honestly, my favorite part was always the epic intro cut scene.
You see most of the characters fighting each other. It ends with Shang Tsung trying to reach the top while Blaze appeared was perfection. This was meant to be the end of the original MK timeline. To be quite honest MK11 that threw in multiple timelines was way better. Despite some huge issues I had with the MK game.
Even if all of this were to be included. Someone still not satisfied or people simply against this compilation. Yes there's people heavily against this compilation game from happening. Not because all the finishers featured either. Some felt we don't need this at all. Others felt they were desperate enough to do this compilation game.
Simply going by their previous compilation games. Digital Eclipse usually hits home runs. They believe they are doing this to save the franchise. I personally don't see it that way at all. They are going back to their roots. Just not for the next big MK game. Instead they are revisiting the history of the franchise.
You may learn a great deal you didn't know. Digital Eclipse regularly takes their time to make these amazing compilation games. If any were to come off being rushed that's more by the bigger game companies than anything else. Maybe it's success could led to other franchises WB Games owns to return in some form.
A huge one on my list is Rampage. Just give me an compilation of Rampage series please? I highly doubt some similar fighting games WB Games owns to MK series getting included. Primal Rage, War Gods, Mace: The Dark Age and Bio F.R.E.A.K.S. respectively. It's questionable if they cover these games or even mention em at all!!!
The fact John Tobias came back for this speaks volumes!!! Ed Boon possibly beyond words excited to be involved with this. We're about to get so much MK content we really don't know where to start? Majority of them suppose to have online multiplayer is a nice touch. I can't wait to see the finalized lineup for this compilation game going to be.
I really would love to get this for my birthday later this year. I'm in my mid 30s this would mean so much to me. Mortal Kombat truly deserves such an ambitious compilation game. One worthy of the Elder Gods!!! Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection is going to be something the world still isn't prepare for.
I am not sure if the PS1 ports. In particular MKII or MK3 getting included or not? Same with the remaining Game Gear ports as well. I still haven't discussed other versions of MK4 yet. The PS1 port altered the presentation with cut scenes. Which ended up being somewhat mixed received. The N64 port is among the most popular ports since it stayed true to the original version.
Of course, we gotta talk about MK4 on Game Boy Color!!! Yeah just take a look at this you'll quickly understand why I'm not excited for it. I even felt MK3 on Game Gear from what I seen is better than this!!! The only real reason to include it is connect all the main handheld versions in the same kollection.
I'll be very direct I was the most impressed by Mortal Kombat Unchained. I know some may see me bias because I love Deception so much. Well this is my blog, whatever I say goes!!! Another major factor is don't make some of the necessary MK games paid DLCs. I'll tell you that's going to turn people off from buying this.
People already gotten turned off by both MK11 and MK1 doing similar strategies. Especially for stuff that should've already been in the game free. Who wants to buy particular MK ports? I really don't so why should you? Let's be honest Warner Brothers isn't doing well right now. They kept making huge mistakes costing em billions of dollars!!!
I don't think the success of this kollection going to save em. But what it would do is help renew interest for the Mortal Kombat franchise. Some people going to be very particular which versions should be included. Look you can't win just be thankful whatever you get here. Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection is about to set the world on fire!!!
