A Castle Full of Cats (2022)
The game is very true to it's name. There's a few hundred cats in this game. I'm not used to seeing that many unless it's Garry's Mod. You get a nice sized map with a small feel of an metroidvania game. The objective is find every cat. I will be honest, a lot of cats were really well hidden. I had to use the crystal ball at times to find em.
You do collect key items that you quickly memorize where to go to use em. There's only one notable enemy in the entire game. The solo boss fight which is more or less a parody of Castlevania's Dracula. To me, this was one of the absolute funniest jokes in the entire game. It's a game you actually can't lose unless you give up.
The art work is strangely interesting with the usage of color helps it pop more. You should take your time playing it. Rushing doesn't get you far in this. Yes you do get a map screen which is very helpful. One of my favorite features is getting the ability to warp anywhere I want. This was rather unexpected when I found out about it.
Another famous joke is the developers stated a group of cats made this. Obviously they are incredibly obsessed with cats. I am really surprised Garfield didn't get reference. Even in the DLC mini game that has two easy achievements/trophies. This is possibly the easiest game I played all year. At the same time, I spend a notable amount of time finding cats.
This game would be perfect if you wanna take your time playing something especially on vacation. You could even play it with your family. The closest this game gets dark is parts of the plot explained. The true antagonist whose an human hated cats. He puts a curse affecting the cats to become something else.
This also explains why your lover a parody of Dracula. A Castle Full of Cats is a very straight forward. There are multiple paths you can find cats in. I'm even surprised they parodied Cthulhu yeah!!! The same character gives you that awesome warp ability. You really need to pay attention to every location.
You just never know what you're going to find. I am still surprised how much depth such a short game had. Thankfully the game automatically saves. Achievement/trophy hunting wise, it's very friendly. I would play more games from Devcats in the near future. I personally had a great time playing this. I can't even criticize it either.
