Warning, this will be an very lengthy blog. Please take as many breaks as needed while you're reading.
Hello everyone I'm XboxClown89, originally this was going to be a few videos. I figured not all my thoughts would fully come out doing that method. I decided to cover Death Battle's Tournament of Champions in it's entirely within blog format. In the long run this would be much easier for me to do. Not to mention, I may never do something like this ever again.
I had a few personal guidelines while I took part in the voting. Some of these rules for me were very necessary in the long run as they follow down below...
1. Never swap out votes
2. Don't take part in other Tournament of Champions' matchup topics
3. No voting for Marvel vs DC matchups (spoiler there is none)
4. If my submitted matchup shows up, I must vote for it regardless
5. I refuse to vote for any matchups I dislike
6. I try to be as respectful to the other matchups as possible
7. I vote for the matchup I want most (It's the entire point of this)
8. Support any matchups I vote for as much as possible
This is a series of polls lasting eleven weeks in total. In the end, the match with the most wins will happen on the show next season. People aren't holding back in the matches they really want. Clearly, everyone wants their big dream fights to happen. This is way better than their Champions Polls last year, I didn't vote then.
Update: Considering the planned Thanksgiving break. I guess we technically could say this lasted three months being twelve weeks. I won't apologize if the math is incorrect lol.
Week 1 lineup
Luz (The Owl House) vs Anne (Amphibia)
Monokuma (Danganronpa) vs Korosensei (Assassination Classroom)
Shulk (Xenoblade Chronicles) vs Lightning (Final Fantasy)
Kasen Ibaraki (Touhou Project) vs Fleetway Sonic (Sonic the Comic)
I voted for Korosensei (Assassination Classroom) vs Monokuma (Danganronpa)
My thoughts on Week 1 lineup
I really wasn't interested in Luz vs Anne as well as Shulk vs Lightning. I never seen The Owl House neither Amphibia prior to the voting. Honestly, those seem more like my wife's thing. I also can say that about Shulk vs Lightning since she's more into RPG games. I always been a little weird how they use RPG characters on the show.
Also there's several matchups with Final Fantasy characters I rather see. One of my big matchups being Kefka vs Loki. To clarify, this is Loki from Marvel comics. I absolutely love this idea with an passion. There's also Vincent Valentine vs Vash the Stampede. Both of those are way more interesting than Shulk vs Lightning.
Kasen Ibaraki isn't easy to find information on if you're new to the franchise. I was able to get roughly enough to know she's an powerful being. A bigger issue with that match up is Sonic. We already had three episodes with Sonic with the most recent being exclusively Archie Sonic. Now I know this comic Sonic is vastly different from the other versions they had on the show.
We already gotten a lot of episodes with Sonic characters. You kinda felt a little burnt on them. Not Marvel vs DC level burnt out either. Just enough you quickly don't want it. More recently, I found out this particular match up was the most complex in the entire lineup. Honestly, I am not seeing a solid reason to vote for that match up.
I confess even Xeno Trunks vs Archie Silver had more going for it. We also previously had three episodes with Shadow alone. Two of which are among my favorite episodes ever. Shadow vs Mewtwo is one of my least favorite episodes to date. Currently, Sonic got one win but two losses. According to an group prediction blog, this would've been three losses if it were to happen on the show.
Monokuma vs Korosensei I knew as soon as I saw it. I really wanna vote for it, I got my champion membership on Saturday of that week. I learned so much about both characters from Death Battle's discord group. This quickly became the most interesting matchup of it's line up. Honestly, we got two dramatically different education methods.
Korosensei being one of the classes' teachers while Monokuma actually the head master of the school. Both these franchises are strikingly similar in many ways. I came to really like Korosensei myself. As for Monokuma, he also had plenty of surprises I wasn't prepared for. There's a lot of crazy possibilities with the match up, I'm very curious to see it play out on the show.
What I love so much about Korosensei vs Monokuma is we have one of the greatest killers taking an robot army. We have this unusual man getting tested by Monokuma every step of the way. Obviously, both won't like each other very much. They also got some interesting fight presentation styles they could possibly do.
I know it might be difficult to believe we're putting an manga that gotten adapted into anime. Danganronpa was a game series with a few anime shows. I highly recommend checking those shows out. This matchup instantly sold me among a first look. It just kept getting more interesting. I can't say that about a lot of matches either.
There's another interesting fight with an Danganronpa character I wanna see. Junko vs Springtrap, both were founders of an tech company that so happened to have an bear mascot. I don't think it's going to be nearly as good as Monokuma vs Korosensei. I still say it's going to be an rather interesting episode to watch regardless.
I do apologize there isn't much for me to say for Week 1 lineup. For me this was the least known characters among the entire round 1 lineups. I did look a little more in some of these characters. This version of Sonic is vastly different from most versions. I still would've chosen Korosensei vs Monokuma after getting a better understanding of these matchups since then.
My thoughts on Monokuma vs Korosensei moving onto Week 9
I am very happy, such an unique matchup. We really don't have an episode like this before. It virtually is one versus many with Monokuma having an army. They also got some rather interesting ways to present the fight itself. For me, I strongly felt this needed to move on. There's so much going for it, I can't wait to see the actual episode in the near future.
Considering Week 9 lineup, if Monokuma vs Korosensei moves to the final week. I openly promised regardless which match up it faces, I'll vote for it. Even if that match up being one of my absolute biggest dream fights ever. I was very unfamiliar with majority of characters in this round. So for me it's quite special Monokuma vs Korosensei quickly appealed the way it did.
Week 2 lineup
Gru (Despicable Me) vs Megamind (Megamind)
Zeus (Greek Mythology) vs Odin (Norse Mythology)
Little Mac (Punch-Out!) vs Ippo (Hajime no Ippo)
Peacemaker (DC) vs Soldier Boy (The Boys)
I voted for Zeus (Greek Mythology) vs Odin (Norse Mythology)
My thoughts on Week 2 lineup
There was virtually no way I was going to vote Peacemaker vs Soldier Boy. Especially compared to the other three match ups here. The one positive thing I can truly say about it is thank god it's not an Marvel vs DC fight. It's technically an entire DC versus episode. Zeus vs Odin hands down I knew right off the bat I wanna vote for it.
We got two God of Gods facing each other. Considering how well Hercules vs Sun Wukong turned out. This would be an massive project that's every penny to make. Yes, we're getting more into Greek Mythology. But we also getting deep into Norse Mythology as well. To me, I felt they had the most options to represent the fight out of the lineup.
We possibly could get an war between all the Gods of both mythologies here. Which would be very epic indeed. They even could do it live action despite my standards for both Gods being incredibly high. At least make both of them better than how they were done on the show Supernatural. Yes both of them got killed off on that show too.
Obviously, this is the oldest matchup in the entire roster by possibly a few thousand years. Clearly, this would've been the most packed research wise. I personally can't think of a solid reason to vote for it. There's more franchises both Gods appeared in. Of course, we are exclusively focusing on the original mythology versions.
They are legendary mythology beings. A lot of similar abilities with some notable differences. Some of the controversial stuff may come up as well. Which could risk their YouTube channel getting ban if they aren't careful. This goes beyond Hercules vs Sun Wukong. We are quickly going epic with these two powerful deities.
Zeus vs Odin is currently the most requested mythology matchup for the show. There's a couple rather interesting ones I personally wanna see. I'll throw out two of my favorites I'm an huge supporter of. Fenrir vs Cerberus, two legendary mythological dogs. Hades vs Anubis, two Gods that represent the afterlife in some way.
I wanna discuss Fenrir vs Cerberus first since the two mythologies in Zeus vs Odin are presented. Fenrir was one of Loki's sons that ended up killing Odin during Ragnarok. Cerberus was essentially the guard dog for Hades. Two powerful canines with their own advantages over each other making it a close fight.
Hades was essentially in a similar role to Satan in Christianity. Although, there's a lot of misunderstanding centering the God himself. Anubis is more directly the God of the Afterlife in Egyptian Mythology. I can reveal from their discord, a lot of people really want both these matchups as well.
I should also mention a few people considered Hades vs Baron Samedi. Another two Gods of the Afterlife matchup. I'm not an expert in any of these mythologies. Greek, Egyptian and Norse mythologies are among my favorites. Thanks to a particular James Bond movie, Live or Let Die that sorta introduced me to Baron Samedi.
Yes the same movie a man got forced to bite down on a bullet. Which caused him to float high up in a large room then explodes shortly hitting the ceiling. There's also Papa Legba from American Horror Story show that's directly inspired by Baron Samedi. There's a few franchises both these characters plus Anubis shows up in.
Now I know they will be strictly be the original mythology versions of these God characters. I just wanna help paint a picture where you may possibly know them from. Personally either Hades matchup I'll support. It's about time Death Battle does an episode on Gods that represents the After Life in some way.
There's also some interest in Thor vs Susanoo. To clarify Norse mythology Thor. The show already had Marvel Thor in three episodes. Of course, this would be a spiritual successor funny enough to Thor vs Raiden. Which has virtually the same exact concept. It's a battle between Gods of Thunder. Possibly a closer showdown in comparison.
I'll go out my way to speak on Nemesis Bloodryche somewhat controversial view on mythology matchups. Personally sir, I mostly think of the matchups themselves. I do try to not offend people of different regions while debating with them. Technically speaking I'm part German. Which would tie my heritage into Norse mythology.
I figured other people likely talking about this controversial view on mythology matchups from Nemesis Bloodryche. I might as well give my own response to that. I will try to be as civilize as humanly possible. I am not even sure if he would like to hear me out or ignore it or get upset over it. All I want at this point in time just get this off my shoulders.
Just discussing the matchups alone shouldn't be an issue. I know he is entitled to the more controversial, "You are insulting people of different religions while discussing these matchups." In the long run, People do have the right to like, dislike or even discuss things in between both sides of the border. I simply felt a large amount of what he said just wasn't necessary neither had to be said in his video at all.
I honestly felt Zeus vs Odin a rather unique matchup for mythology matchups. Scaling will be easily the most challenging aspect of the entire episode. It may depend on that among other critical details. These two surprisingly got so much in common. Everything about this matchup screams epic in every sense of the word.
They also got a lot of options how to present the matchup too. I would even say among the most possible ways to present such an iconic showdown. I also felt many people has interesting views how they wanna see this go down. Personally I was what they previously done for Hercules vs Sun Wukong. We all can agree this is both Gods best matchup for the show hands down.
You could even say among my most wanted matchups for the show currently. I know it doesn't even need to be in Tournament of Champions. At the same time, it did help get more people interested in the matchup. There isn't many flaws that could potentially ruin the episode. No matter what you're getting a great deep look into two mythologies within the same episode.
Zeus vs Odin also later gotten a great fight song, I was at the video's premiere on YouTube. I highly recommend to go listen to the song. Little Mac vs Ippo is a matchup I would watch. They haven't done an boxing match since TJ Combo vs Balrog. I can say it's a better matchup than Little Mac vs Rocky Balboa.
Here's a link to that absolutely amazing fight song video down below...
As much I like boxing, I wasn't sold enough on this boxing match. I'm more familiar with Little Mac. I previously looked into Ippo, I felt this wouldn't hold up to the hype. Of course, I would watch it when the episode happens. It also doesn't help One Minute Melee especially the full version really knock this out the park.
In my mind, I already got satisfied from this match up. I had no real reason to vote for it. Gru vs Megamind would've been my second choice. Two villains turned heroes, people sure love redemption stories. A major reason I didn't vote for it is Megamind barely has anything in terms to movies to watch. Gru in a couple of movies including both Minion movies.
To be fair this would be a good match up with everything considered. Very likely getting done in 3D animation to better represent both these amazing characters. Even with it's flaws, this would be an great episode. My wife more into movies like these. I am very sure if she would've voted, this would be her vote.
I actually do like Gru myself, I came to respect actor Steve Carrell more recently. I never been an Will Ferrell person myself. I will say I surprisingly enjoyed Po's portrayal on the show. I do think they can knock this out the park. For me, it just never truly been an dream fight. I still highly respect this match up.
Assuming Rick Sanchez vs The Doctor doesn't show up. I actually felt this has more going for it than Dexter vs Jimmy Neutron. Yes, they may have more overall content in comparison. The technology differences here are notably more interesting. We got an human taking on an alien, it's clearly a battle of wits.
I honestly can't think of a better opponent for Gru than Megamind. They are strikingly similar characters even with their differences. This episode actually works amazing well in every possible way. There's no question, a lot of people really wants to see these two go at it. There's so much potential, my own expectations for it are very high.
My thoughts on Gru vs Megamind moving onto Week 9
In all honestly, an respectful choice. I'm not upset Zeus vs Odin isn't moving on. I do wanna see another technology theme episode. Some of those actually among my favorite episodes for the show. Obviously, I can quickly get behind this. At least one of these characters gets redemption through the show. It's one of a few match ups to appeal to majority of DB's audience.
Gru vs Megamind is going to be filled with surprises. For the right people like The Rappter, Christmas may came early. I do think this has a huge chance in Week 9 to move onto the final week. Although, the competition this match up faces is quite intense. All I am going to say is if this moves to the final week, there's a huge chance I'll vote for it to happen.
Week 3 lineup
Ragna the Bloodedge (BlazBlue) vs Velvet Crowe (Tales of Berseria)
Sailor Moon (Sailor Moon) vs Madoka (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)
Scorpion (Mortal Kombat) vs Wolf (Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice)
Composite Ryu (Every Ryu Appearance) vs Composite Goku (Every Goku Appearance)
I voted for Scorpion (Mortal Kombat) vs Wolf (Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice)
My thoughts on Week 3 lineup
Ragna I'm very familiar with since I played a few games with the character. I did predicted he loss to Sol Badguy from Guilty Gears series years ago. As much I want the character to return. I simply wasn't sold on this match up. I really didn't know who Velvet Crowe was either. I did find out their connections which was quite interesting.
It's a little weird to put an fighting game character against an RPG game character. For me, it would bag a lot of questions. Not only that Sora vs Pit quickly was unbalanced in favor of Sora. So I was quickly against this match up. I will say I do wish Ragna would eventually return to the show. He does deserve an second chance.
Obviously, Scorpion is one of my absolute favorite fighting game characters ever!!! I always wanna see Scorpion even for a short cameo. The character was a major reason I gotten into fighting games in the first place. Still among my absolute favorite ninja characters. I never got to play Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice prior to the voting.
I did look heavily into Wolf, I got to be very honest. Bravo, this is actually an match up I really wanna see. We got two ninjas with questionable death situation. I loved the concept of two skilled ninjas that's very difficult to put down for good. Also these are real ninjas unlike Naruto!!! Yes I'm not sorry lol, this is a surprisingly decent fight with everything considered.
On the surface it's tricky to put an fighting game character that's in a lot of fighting games. We putting Scorpion against someone whose only in one game. They actually got a lot of strong similarities. This would be way better than Scorpion vs Ryu. There's more interesting factors to consider as well. I do think this matchup really deserves to happen on the show, I absolutely love it!!!
Wolf does have a confirm kill method that could work on Scorpion. Also he can't teleport him fully away from the world of the living due to Wolf's immortality works. This alone prevents several options to make this a more fair ninja duel. To me, this already way better than Ryu Hayabusa vs Strider Hiryu. I know that's really saying a lot.
Let's be honest, very likely the closest matchup in the lineup. The more I dig into it, the more I wanna see these two go at it. The connections between them turned out to be very interesting as well. For me, it's a real shame two other ridiculous matchups kept getting votes taken away from it. I already submitted this matchup through the official DB forms.
What a crazy week for voting, several times two particular matchups kept getting tied. Sailor Moon vs Madoka out of respect, yes I officially gotten into anime thanks to Sailor Moon years ago. I simply never was a fan of the Magical Girl genre. I already knew a lot about Sailor Moon prior. After looking into Madoka, I am glad I didn't vote for this matchup.
Let's just say Sailor Moon fans you might actually regret your votes. Unless, you are supporting Madoka then by all means can keep voting it. A lot of people doesn't know how insanely powerful both these characters are. This would be like Kasen Ibaraki vs Fleetway Sonic back in Week 1. I could even argue based on a few select things, this could be even closer.
I think it's finally time to talk about the Hadoken in the room. So far, the most ridiculous matchup in Tournament of Champions. Ryu vs Goku, obviously just the canon versions. It's a huge stomp in favor of Goku. However they went the extra mile by submitting the matchup as full composite versions. It even states Every Ryu Appearance vs Every Goku Appearance.
Both crossed over with so many franchises combined. Officially both crossed over in Fortnite, yes I'm very serious. Some of Ryu's appearances notably boosted his stats up to insane levels. Goku already at a truly insane level in canon. Adding a lot of his more recent appearances would be huge power increases. For some people, they felt this would've been the most fair for Ryu.
Indirectly, the matchup actually more unfair than it appears to be. A lot of people really wanna see the insanity happen. They don't even care how much research all of this would be on the DB team too. Let's put it this way, you thought Goku vs Superman was bad!!! The level of toxicity I witnessed on their discord group from this matchup was truly mind blowing!!!
In a weird way this could've been my second choice. But it's more fair to say I simply wasn't sold on the other three matchups. Ryu vs Goku would've been the entire DB team on deck job. I really didn't wanna force them to make that episode within an year, it's close to being impossible. Both been around since the mid 80s, a few decades worth of research.
In all honestly, the matchup itself is way too much!!! In every possible way you can possibly think of. It's very likely going to be unbalanced. They were even hoping this turned into another Chuck Norris vs Segata Sanshiro situation. I really don't think we need that to happen again. There's plenty better matchups for both characters.
I rather see Ryu face Kenshiro from Fist of the North Star. It's very tricky to pick opponents for Goku. Either you can pick someone he can easily beat or he'll guarantee to lose against. Which is another major factor working against this particular matchup. I honestly don't know who would be an fair matchup for Goku.
Supposedly even after getting two episodes worth of Goku vs Superman. They want another Goku vs Superman episode!!! Just hell no, we already had enough. Not to mention, the way people towards Composite Ryu vs Composite Goku. It kinda felt an spiritual successor to that. Which made me not want it even more!!!
As much I want Goku back onto the show. Also considering how disappointed I was they made Gogeta vs Vegito an season finale episode. In a way, Goku finally got a victory on the show. It also was the closest matchup with the character to date. So I already felt Goku in particular gotten his best matchup on the show.
Considering this is full composite versions. Ryu would be allowed to become an Power Ranger. I don't think that improves his chances much. Goku kept getting a lot of non canon appearances too. Especially being more insanely powerful than adding those stats onto Goku. I would be absolutely amazed existence itself can survive Goku.
Sure, this would give both fighters more moves. The additional stats boosting for Ryu would make him notably harder for Goku. I strongly felt Goku in all honestly too insanely powerful. Ryu also doesn't have full control when he attempts to go all out in a fight. This is a very flawed matchup that quickly falls apart in record time.
To be more honest, I would've voted for another matchup with Composite Goku. If it had shown up instead of this one. Composite Goku vs Composite Sonic is more interesting. Also Sonic really gains a lot more from this than Ryu. This would've lived up to the hype way better too. Sure, Sonic has some truly broken powers from several different canons to guarantee his victory.
It's no secret Sonic franchise is heavily inspired by Dragon Ball. Then again a lot of manga franchises also inspired by the same franchise for years. The scaling for both characters would make more sense. The possibilities are even crazier in comparison. Ways to represent the fight is higher as well Composite Goku vs Composite Sonic is currently my big Goku request.
Update: on November 14th episode of their podcast show. They were discussing Scorpion vs Wolf, Sam wake up!!!
Update: on Rick Sanchez vs The Doctor episode, they confirmed Goku vs Superman 3!!! Which aired November 20th a day short of my birthday, I am deeply disappointed with this.
Oh you know what screw it I am going to talk about Goku vs Superman 3 very quickly. Even giving Goku more versions of himself, they gotta do that with Superman too. Which means Superman going to win again!!! Just imagine if Composite Ryu vs Composite Superman would've won Tournament of Champions.
It's actually more upsetting than another DC superhero Batman only faces Marvel superheroes. He fought four of them on the show. Technically you could consider as support for Batman Beyond vs Spider-Man 2099 episode. I'm sure both Batman and Superman has better, more interesting matchups. It's almost like they really wanna piss people off on purpose flat out being trolls.
The last couple episodes in the season were all mostly decent. Then you had to ruin all of that effort with this!!! We already had two previous episodes on the same exact fight debate. Why can't we do another matchup with Goku? If you count Gogeta vs Vegito both sides of that, this is the only other Death Battle episode Goku fights in.
Yes officially both Goku and Vegeta are essentially the winners as well as the losers. Regardless which fusion character won the fight. I'm still very disappointed they chosen to end an season with this. One surprisingly positive thing I could say for Goku vs Superman 3 is it isn't the season finale. There's a small chance it'll be better than Gogeta vs Vegito I'm not holding my breath though.
Which in itself was a major disappointment to me. Goku always been a deeply beloved characters. It's almost criminal how they're treating him on their show. Not as nearly as terrible as Cartoon Fight Club surprisingly. But it's still bad that it has virtually no redeeming factors whatsoever here. Thank god you guys did do Scooby-Doo vs Courage, which is helping me get through this a little better.
If the Death Battle team isn't planning other matchups with Goku. Then I speak for a lot of people out there. Stop using Goku on your show!!! It's also coming off as "We can't think of an matchup with Goku. Oh I know let's do Goku vs Superman again!!! I know we should but alright let's do it." Don't you guys even care at all for doing this?
Even Vegeta vs Thor was way better than this!!! Yes they didn't give Thor the Thor Force despite being his third episode on the show. Then again, I always enjoyed any episode with Thor. He's among my favorite Marvel superheroes. I also really enjoyed both Vegeta's episodes as well. In comparison, I could care less about Gogeta vs Vegito.
Now Mugen or Garry's Mod wise, I would be fully on board with Composite Ryu vs Composite Goku. It's simply an matchup without research going to be incredibly fun to watch. The very moment research gets included, you know the appeal is quickly out the window!!! It's like magicians they reveal exactly how they perform magic tricks, there actually was a show on that very concept.
Hell if One Minute Melee ever returns. They really could have a lot of fun with this matchup. Sure it has to be one of their few rounds fights. At the same time, the work they previously done is truly amazing stuff. In all honestly, please bring back One Minute Melee I deeply miss that show!!! I don't think DBX would work nearly as well as OMM on the same concept.
Unpopular opinion: Frieza vs Megatron going to be way better than Goku vs Superman 3!!! Really not sorry at all let's move on from this. I absolutely loved it's fight song too. I constantly listening to it often, it's so good!!!
My thoughts of Sailor Moon vs Madoka moving onto Week 9
In a way, I'm truly glad Sailor Moon vs Madoka beat out Ryu vs Goku. Let's be honest, they never done an full blown Magical Girl episode. The closest they ever done was Shadow vs Ryuko. Ryuko was from Kill la Kill that's an alternative take on the Magical Girl concept. I know a lot of people really wanted Sailor Moon on the show for years.
Especially after previously doing Sailor Galaxia vs Beerus episode. Which is another episode I don't like!!! To clarify wasn't a factor why I voted against it. The episode itself would bring even more people into the show. I do support what it brings to the show despite not being an fan. Not only that, they got a few interesting ways to present the matchup too.
Quick thoughts
Alright I gotta say a few obvious things here. It's mind blowing we didn't get Goku vs Sailor Moon. Another matchup I'm against for many reasons. We also luck out from getting another Mortal Kombat vs Street Fighter matchup. I felt we got plenty of those with Shao Kahn won two of them. This week indirectly threw a massive monkey wrench like those.
In turn causing the hell out of the voters including myself thank you!!! Although as soon as I saw Scorpion vs Wolf I was instantly locked in. Yes I did get asked a few times on discord to swap my vote, hell no!!! I ride and die for Scorpion!!! This turned out to be the craziest round 1 poll in the entire thing. Not a lot of close voting followed though.
This is my updated thoughts on Goku vs Superman, which came out December 4th. A day before Tournament of Champions ends for the record, also thank you guys so much. You are finally doing Galactus vs Unicron, I waited a long time for this particular matchup. You guys better not disappoint me!!!
Update: I yes I watched Goku vs Superman 3. I got to confess a few things. It still isn't my favorite episode of the season. However it also neither the episode likely being Killua's episode sparks I know. This truly felt like the definitive take on the matchup. I also enjoyed everything about the actual episode.
Obviously, this is way better than Gogeta vs Vegito not sorry. I still do prefer Frieza vs Megatron truthfully. I will confirm a few episodes including this changed my point of view. Not many seasons of this show previously done that. I will give the Death Battle team respect for doing this episode. I also got one request, please don't do an Round 4!!!
Week 4 lineup
Luke Skywalker (Star Wars) vs Saber (TYPE-MOON)
Wile E. Coyote (Looney Tunes) vs Tom Cat (Tom & Jerry)
Hiccup & Toothless (How to Train Your Dragon) vs Hiro & Bayman (Big Hero 6)
Sackboy (LittleBigPlanet) vs Maxwell (Scribblenauts)
I voted for Wile E. Coyote (Looney Tunes) vs Tom Cat (Tom & Jerry)
My thoughts on Week 4 lineup
Sackboy vs Maxwell does heavily play on creativity. Garry's Mod is one of my absolute favorite games for that purpose. I actually never played either franchise myself. Sackboy being more of an PS exclusive game character. It's an matchup that appeals to either kids or artists in general. To clarify, it's not me disrespecting anyone.
I personally just wasn't interested into the matchup period. The same goes for Luke Skywalker vs Saber. We previously had Luke take on Harry Potter back in Season 1. I actually felt it would be nice he eventually comes back to the show. I may not be an Star Wars fan. I do however like several Star Wars characters including Luke.
Oh okay I'm an huge Darth Vader fan you got me lol. They do have some interesting connections. I do enjoy sword battles, yes an light saber technically is an plasma sword. I don't know Saber that well since I haven't gotten into her franchise at all. I always knew about the character for years though. More recently learning she's an alternate take on King Arthur was a big surprise.
It's one of those matchups I really had to look up what they had in common. To my surprise there was a long list of similarities. I'm still somewhat confused why these two? I may not know Saber well truthfully. I do know a lot more about Luke, I felt he has several ways to win this fight. Also being the son of the Chosen One as well as an Grand Master among the Jedis, he would be difficult to beat.
Indirectly this is sorta like Yoda vs King Mickey. Except not only the connections to me makes more sense. They are obviously among the very best fighters of their respective universes. Already too critical factors that prevents Luke vs Saber having a similar level of impact. Not only that, it sorta comes off being somewhat unbalanced as a matchup.
Now to clarify I'm not saying this is a stomp. Although some people that knows both characters could state that. It just felt like Luke has the more critical advantages. Some of which Saber can't do much about. I could imagine an epic sword battle. I just don't think Saber is a worthy enough opponent for Luke Skywalker!!!
Hell even Palpatine vs Xehanort that has some major similarities to Yoda vs King Mickey is way better. A small spoiler, that matchup also shows up in Tournament of Champions too. I have plenty of arguments how that would be more worth your time than this!!! You know a matchup isn't great when other similar matchups with one of those franchises are notably better in comparison.
This likely would be my second choice in this lineup. Hiccup & Toothless vs Hiro & Baymax is so far the only team matchup in Tournament of Champions. I knew about Hiccup & Toothless for years. I actually seen Big Hero 6 movie, I enjoyed it a lot. To me, this quickly felt like a previous team matchup they done a couple years ago.
Ratchet & Clank vs Jak & Daxter, it has some of the same stuff going for the matchup. One team is more into mystically while the opposing team being more technology. Parts of their connections does line up. I just have difficulty trying to imagine this particular matchup. I'm likely going to be rooting for Hiro & Baymax.
Baymax quickly grew on me as I watched the movie. Hiro is someone relatable with his situation. He turned out to be quite interesting. Yes I'm well aware there's an related show on the franchise too. Honestly, we do need another team matchup on the show. I do think this could be an great episode with everything considered.
There's no question this one has to be done in 3D. No Simon the Digger vs Kyle Rayner in 2D Champion Poll crap. The fans truly deserve this fight to be done right!!! For me, I instantly knew Wile E. Coyote vs Tom Cat was going to be my vote. I heavily grew up on these classic cartoons in the early days of Cartoon Network.
More recently, you'll find them on Boomerang. Not the object, it's an related channel to Cartoon Network. Both these characters dates all the way back to the 1940s. Also neither having an main canon situation. The DB team is forced to compared nearly everything with both characters. Several decades worth of content, there's no way they can pull this off within an year!!!
I also gotta mention Tom goes by several names. It ultimately doesn't matter which one. I always called him just Tom for years. I know in Tournament of Champions, he's named Tom Cat. He also goes by Tom the Cat. His full name is Thomas Jasper Cat Sr. Very early on, he was originally named just Jasper. What's even weirder before Wile gotten his name, he almost got named Don Coyote.
It's even more content than Composite Ryu vs Composite Goku combined no joke. I knew a joke fight had to show up eventually. Everybody absolutely loves these characters including myself. I strongly felt this would work better than the team classic cartoon fight that's also submitted in. To me, this was the perfect choice to represent classic cartoon characters on the show.
What's even better is no one can say, "Oh they win because of toon force." They previously done both Saitama vs Popeye & SpongeBob vs Super Friends Aquaman. Two of my absolute favorite Death Battle episodes to date. In this particular case, both having a similar level of toon force evens things out a bit. They also got the most options how to present the matchup too.
I will be discussing this more as time goes on. I really thankful I was given the opportunity to vote for this!!! Not only that, about time we got an matchup like this to show up in Tournament of Champions. Not many matchups within Tournament of Champions compares to it's greatness. It's easy to assume it's an front runner for Tournament of Champions that's going to be very difficult to beat.
In all honestly, this episode virtually has everything!!! You can't ask for more neither less. You are going to have a great time. In fact, so much fun why not share it with the people you love too? The amount of possible jokes they could do is virtually endless too. This even has the potential being one of the most funniest episodes they ever done!!!
My thoughts on Wile E. Coyote vs Tom Cat moving onto Week 9
I am so happy this got to move on. Wile vs Tom will quickly become an true timeless classic. Just like the very cartoon characters in the same episode. I strongly felt a fight to the death with these characters. Things will be very interesting, they survived a lot of things. Especially stuff that would've easily killed people.
Not only that, they have different usage of toon force would also be fun to watch. They also could be put into some rather interesting situations during the fight. The jokes everyone going to make through out the episode. The entire episode is going to be screaming fun at it's very core. I really felt majority of their audience going to truly enjoy this episode with an huge passion.
I also wanna say thank god they didn't put any Marvel vs DC matchups. One of my guidelines is not voting any Marvel vs DC matchups in. Even if it's the only option I actually like within the lineup. We nearly have thirty episodes worth. I think we all really need an break from that. At least, half way wise they are doing something right here.
Week 5 lineup
Kratos (God of War) vs Asura (Asura's Wrath)
Homer Simpson (The Simpsons) vs Peter Griffin (Family Guy)
Jimmy Neutron (Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius) vs Dexter (Dexter's Laboratory)
Naruto (Naruto) vs Monkey D. Luffy (One Piece)
I voted for Homer Simpson (The Simpsons) vs Peter Griffin (Family Guy)
My thoughts on Week 5 lineup
Jimmy Neutron vs Dexter, here's an matchup people been wanting for years. Cartoon Network vs Nickelodeon, respectively that rivalry's biggest request for the show. Dexter was a notable part of my childhood. I seen a little of Jimmy Neutron years ago. For me, I'm rooting for Dexter. This is another technology theme matchup.
Sadly, it isn't one I'll consider voting for. I don't dislike the matchup though. I totally get why so many people want these two to go at it. I just felt there were more interesting matchups in the lineup. I would watch Dexter vs Jimmy when it happens. For me, it isn't going to be as exciting as Gru vs Megamind. Although, there will be some crazy situations.
I also prefer some matches that's similar submitted in. Such as Dr. Cortex vs Dr. Zomboss or Zim vs Crypto. People want another mad scientist theme episode. It also could be considered an spiritual successor to Eggman vs Wily episode. Zim vs Crypto is two aliens with some crazy technology. Not even Earth will be safe from their wrath!!!
I also more in favor of Dexter taking on Stewie Griffin. Both are boy geniuses that hide technology inside their own homes. Obviously, both are short smart characters with a lot of similar possibilities. For me, this matchup makes slightly more sense. It also would be the more entertaining matchup than Dexter vs Jimmy.
I am well aware Dexter vs Jimmy been an very huge request for the show for years. Maybe I prefer crazier technology battles. Which exactly would be Dexter vs Stewie. Also I do like both those characters. I never was much for Jimmy myself. I don't think Jimmy could truly handle either of them in a fight.
Update: Last night I was talking to a few people on their discord. It turns out there's another Cartoon Network vs Nickelodeon matchup being thrown around. As weird this following matchup possibly is, I actually wanna see this!!! Alright no more waiting it's time to reveal what the matchup in question is. Let's just say some of you won't see this coming!!!
Ren & Stimpy vs Cow & Chicken. The classic animal duos of rival cartoon channels from the 90s. I do remember both these shows as a kid. I already fully own The Ren & Stimpy Show on DVD, I absolutely loved it!!! Cow and Chicken is a weird cartoon show for it's time. It's a show that wouldn't happen by today's standards, I know not saying a lot.
The Ren & Stimpy Show was like the more risky, partly adult drunken cousin to the Looney Tunes. Cow and Chicken on the other day is simply an cartoon show that really doesn't make any sense. No really we got two farm animals that act somewhat human like. Their parents are virtually just lower half of people?
They also got a famous cousin named Boneless Chicken, get it? It's alright you don't it's a show filled with such weird concepts. Boneless Chicken always been my favorite character on the show. Obviously The Ren & Stimpy Show is way better. The real selling point of this matchup is both these duos are not in their right minds.
No really Ren is borderline psycho while Stimpy being more of the guy everyone wanna be around. Which kinda got ripped off by Dog from CatDog yes I'm calling you out!!! Anyway two got two farm animals that's really careless about anything. Other than them, the most recurring character. Trust me if you seen the show you already know who I'm talking about.
The Red Guy whose mostly pantless in his appearances. He's one of those characters that always seems to have different jobs. Indirectly Roger the Alien is technically ripping him off I guess. Roger still a way better character in comparison. It's mind blowing they actually allowed an half naked man in a kid's cartoon show.
Obviously I gotta mention a few more details regarding Cow and Chicken. Cow has an superhero alter ago named Super Cow, how original? Both these duos appeared in several crossovers over the years. The weird part is Ed, Edd n Eddy vs The Animaniacs makes more sense than this. Another crazy team theme cartoon matchup that's getting thrown around.
I'm already off track plus this is my blog. I also do enjoy cartoon shows to a degree. I may also quickly discuss Ed, Edd n Eddy vs The Animaniacs too. I actually grew up with both these shows. Yes I am well aware about The Animaniacs got a reboot show, I'm hearing it's not great. Indirectly thanks to another web show Fan War, I do have a few connections to Ed, Edd n Eddy characters.
I previously helped out in two particular episodes of the show. Ed, Edd n Eddy Battle Royale, I fully watched the show for this research. I later helped with Ed vs Heavy from Team Fortress series. I'm a huge fan of both these characters. I still say The Animaniacs are more broken characters that's widely known for being unpredictable.
Let's be honest Double D is going to be the first one eliminated. Thus being the smart guy, he does have some principals he won't easily break. Eddy is a coward there's no hiding that. I don't think he would last long either. Of course, this leaves us with Ed. Now Ed can lift an entire house. Which is among his more broken feats.
The Animaniacs are still way too much for anyone to handle. It's a recurring theme within their shows. Little to no one can handle being around them for very long. Why because they are more looney than the Looney Tunes characters. Now that's quite impressive if you think about it. A group of siblings being even crazier than the craziest Looney Tunes character, you know this won't end well.
To me, Dexter vs Jimmy just doesn't interest me. This particular cartoon duo matchup playing on the same rivalry yes please!!! Look I heavily grow up on classic cartoons as a kid. Of course, I love watching crazy animal characters doing all kind of stuff. Especially when slap stick involved. The Ren & Stimpy Show being among my favorites in that category.
I actually made my own Death Battle versus picture for that cartoon duo matchup down below...
Naruto vs Luffy, we really don't need pirate vs ninja episode. They do have some similar connections. Naruto previously fought Ichigo. Maybe I'm still salty it wasn't Ichigo vs Yusuke instead. I personally never liked Naruto, the character with an passion. To me, he comes off as this cheap Goku rip off character.
Someone had to said it, Naruto does have some similarities to Sun Wukong. Just not to the degree his opponent does with his Fifth Gear form. I'm an huge One Piece fan, I strongly felt both these characters has better matchups. I don't want Naruto to return to the show. I will confess I do like an handful of Naruto characters with Kakashi & Gaara.
Both of them previously loss their respective episodes. I really wanna see Orochimaru come to the show. I would really love to see Orochimaru vs Medusa Gorgon above this hands down. I also was kinda hoping for Kaido vs Acnologia would've shown up instead. Yes Kaido would lose but I still felt the toxicity from the fan bases won't be nearly as bad.
Another notable issue is they already done several Shonen Jump episodes. Most of them are all over the internet versus debates. Then again majority of Death Battle fights has that going for them. I just felt there's better anime theme matchups that easily could've filled the slot. To me, I simply don't find Luffy vs Naruto interesting.
Other Shonen Jump episodes they previously done down below...
1. Naruto vs Ichigo
2. Jotaro Kujo vs Kenshiro
3. Roshi vs Jiraiya
4. Sasuke vs Hiei
5. All Might vs Might Guy
6. Sanji vs Rock Lee
7. Madara vs Aizen
8. Tanjiro vs Jonathan Joestar
9. Deku vs Asta
10. Gogeta vs Vegito
Yes it's a major factor why I won't vote Naruto vs Luffy!!! If I could pick someone for Luffy to face I might vote for. A huge chance it's going to be Marvel's Mister Fantastic. Considering both are rubber men characters with a lot of different abilities. In all honestly, this is my least favorite matchup in the entire Tournament of Champions.
Yes there's a few Shonen Jump fights submitted to Tournament of Champions. I felt most of them are way better than Naruto vs Luffy. I will be brutally honest, this was too easy for me to not vote for. I even could argue reasons why Dexter vs Jimmy Neutron a more interesting fight. Let's not even compare it to the other two matchups in the same lineup, both are better than this!!!
One side is heavily going with Naruto due to his stats being on a notably higher level. The other side siding with Luffy because of Fifth Gear being broken classic cartoon style. I do felt if this were composite version, Luffy would win this fight. Obviously, this has to be strictly canon versions. I don't think these two's dialogue in the fight would be that entertaining either.
I know some crossover franchises especially Marvel vs DC is getting out of control. I'm not saying I'm not on board with more Shonen Jump fights. To be honest, there's a couple I really wanna see. Like Roronoa Zoro vs Kenpachi Zaraki being one of my big fights now. True fact, originally I was going to submit in this matchup but quickly changed to Chucky vs Slappy.
I also got a bone to pick with Kratos vs Asura. I have some major problems against this matchup. For starters, it previously loss in 3D Champions Poll last year. It actually was the second most voted matchup in it's respective poll. I really wish this didn't get into the polls. Oh don't worry I got bigger reasons than this.
I strongly felt there were better opponents for both characters. I prefer Kratos face War from Darksiders series. I really wanna watch Asura take on Atrocitus. Both those matchups has interesting connections. I can confirm the current status of both matchups. Kratos vs War quickly fell under not knowing who War is.
Therefore, it heavily affects the demand level of the matchup. Which means it's likely not happening, a real shame. As for Asura vs Atrocitus, people seem to be against the idea. Some of them don't understand some of their connections. Others felt Atrocitus would've been too unfair for Asura. Hey, Death Battle done plenty of unfair matches.
Kratos became the God of War in Greek mythology after killing his half brother Ares. War is one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse. Kratos killing most the Gods led to the apocalypse happening. Asura vs Atrocitus connects more directly than Kratos vs War. Both represent Wrath among all the connected, cosmic forces.
Thus, anger is one of many things that drives both characters. They constantly held their own with insanely powerful beings. Asura is mostly hand to hand fighter with some exceptions. Atrocitus uses an red lantern ring as well as his own blood. I do see why they are coming from being an unfair fight. At the same time, it also would make way more sense to do that fight instead.
Other popular opponents for Kratos includes Dante from Devil May Cry series. Also Doomslayer from Doom series, I would support either of those over Asura vs Kratos. Dante fought some powerful demons that's considered Gods. Doomslayer virtually destroyed Hell including his universe's God. I'm a huge fan of both those franchises as well.
Here is a link to an recent fight song for Kratos vs Doomslayer down below...
Parts of Kratos and Dante's game series mechanics are similar. All three of them escaped Hell before. Every enemy fallen to their insane tendency as well as skills. I already could imagine more interesting situations with either matchup. Even War would been an decent opponent for Kratos. Any of them I recommend above Asura to face Kratos.
I'll give you another great reason why I feel that way. Sure you may get an epic fight song for Kratos vs Asura. I felt Kratos vs War would've gotten an even better epic fight song. Either Dante or Doomslayer, you would get this sick rock theme fight song. I usually don't consider the possible fight song options when discussing matchups.
In this rare case, it truly would make an huge difference. Can you imagine a good mix of both their franchises' music into a fight song? Also we gotta talk about the sound effects. Even those would stand out more than Kratos vs Asura. I just can't stand an matchup that no longer makes sense neither two different scaling methods makes the entire comparison confusing as hell.
I almost forgot Kratos previously in an episode way back in season. Where he faced Spawn, I felt this one could be redone. Even this matchup made way more sense than Kratos vs Asura. Spawn also held his own against Gods. Considering his long list of abilities, he's an god like being. In a few cases, he was an God like in ending the apocalypse or became the Omega Spawn.
Another major problem is I felt people are very particular how they went they're god fights. Personally I'm more into Zeus vs Odin myself. I felt that would be more interesting as well as being a closer fight. Here, we got Kratos whose in a couple games against an god with mostly one game. I been noticing some of these matchups has an character mostly presented in one movie or game.
I strongly felt that's not fair since Kratos could've been giving everything. They also could limit him down to either Greek or Norse mythology arsenal. Also considering Kratos' history with fighting Gods. I don't think Asura has what it takes to put him down for good. I might watch the episode if it ever happens but that's it for me.
For me, the obvious matchup to vote for. Homer vs Peter, this actually one of my big adult dream fights. I'm an huge fan of both these shows with an huge passion. Like an handful of matchups within Tournament of Champions. You instantly know what you're possibly getting with these two. Yes the research will be a few decades worth.
At the same time, it helps add up to the creativity as well as the possible jokes they could go for too. This also has the potential being one of the most absolute funniest episodes they ever done!!! It's a very rare case I say these two are so similar, it's easy to confuse the two characters. Not only that, the differences would be unique perceptive.
Obviously, it's another joke episode with a very big demand from the audience. Virtually everyone wanna see these two go at it. Sure, a lot of these matchups are incredibly likely going to happen. Regardless, they win or loss Tournament of Champions. Homer vs Peter has everything you possibly could ever want in an Death Battle episode.
No more neither no less, they can do so much with this matchup. It's an long standing Fox animated sitcom rivalry. Both these shows are still airing episodes despite Family Guy got canceled twice. In all honestly, everyone would really love this episode. These two are the life of the party. Yes they previously fought before.
A lot of people including myself wants an actual winner this time. Homer vs Peter would be legendary among the funnier episodes. This matchup really means so much to me for years. I never thought I would get the opportunity to vote for it. Then again, I also could say the same about Zeus vs Odin too. This episode really needs to happen!!!
Considering the cartoon matchups in Tournament of Champions. This is among the most wanted among them. Someone did submit in Bob vs Hank, I don't support that. I mean come on it's Homer vs Peter. It's more of a modern variation of what Wile E. Coyote vs Tom is to people. Let's be honest, majority of Death Battle's audience really wants this.
You got an cartoon episode filled with plenty of surprises. Not to mention, both these animated sitcom shows are quite long. This isn't even considering adding in other shows within their universes either. Both of them had a lot of jobs through out their respective shows. Obviously, we gotta mention a lot of cameos over the years.
Even Seth MacFarlane himself admitted The Simpsons was inspiration for Family Guy. Simply doing this matchup Peter goes full circle. Everyone also would agree two of the funniest TV Dads ever!!! A lot of adult sitcom characters were inspired by them. Nostalgia is a rather powerful thing. The Simpsons is a strong candidate for being one of the greatest cartoon shows in history.
They also could do a quick drinking contest. Which actually would be entertaining to watch. There's also the possibility both their families fights each other this time. Last time on Family Guy's crossover episode with The Simpsons. Only the Dads fought each other in a similar style to Peter fighting Ernie the Giant Chicken.
They also previously fought a former president of the United States. Homer fought George H. W. Bush when the Bushes were neighbors in an episode. Peter fought Donald Trump again in a similar style to Ernie the Giant Chicken. A lot of situations, these two are incredibly similar people. They are both lucky to have their wives.
Not only we have history but also couch gags as well as cutaway jokes. The entire episode is going to literately be filled with jokes. Peter being closer to their mess up sense of humor would work perfectly. As much I love both these characters, I'm rooting for Homer in this fight. Sorry Family Guy, The Simpsons will always mean a lot more to me.
Another tradition I do every year is watch the newest episode of The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror. Ever since Season 2, they do an Halloween episode. They also done Thanksgiving of Horror, an Thanksgiving spin on the concept. Also a bonus Treehouse of Horror episode Not It, an full episode parody of IT.
There's also the solo canon Halloween episode, Halloween of Horror too. Clearly, The Simpsons loves Halloween with an huge passion. So does myself with a few relatives of mine. A real fact, there was a particular trivia Simpsons board game. Where the fans sent in questions. I was one of many to get two of my questions submitted into the game no lie.
My thoughts on Kratos vs Asura moving onto Week 10
I wouldn't say I'm disappointed. Just a little salty Homer vs Peter isn't moving on. Especially knowing both those characters has better matchups than this. I do think it's going to be done in 3D animation. They will make it an truly epic showdown. In all honestly, it just isn't the kind of epic I would want. Kratos vs Asura is moving on, I simply won't vote for it.
Week 6 lineup
Lucina (Fire Emblem) vs Grovyle (Pokemon Mystery Dungeon)
X (Mega Man X) vs Optimus Primal (Beast Wars: Transformers)
Percy Jackson (Percy Jackson) vs Zagreus (Hades)
Scott Pilgrim (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) vs Kazuma Sato (Konosuba)
I voted for X (Mega Man X) vs Optimus Primal (Beast Wars: Transformers)
My thought on Week 6 lineup
I will be brutally honest, I had to look some of these characters up. This almost felt like Week 1 lineup to me. Scott Pilgrim vs Kazuma Sato doesn't interest me. I do know a little about Scott from the movie that's it. Also they got Kazuma's last name wrong on the poll lol. I honestly don't get this matchup the most.
Update: some names are a little weird when it come to translating. In this particular case, depending where you are in the world. Either his name is Kazuma Satou or Sato. For someone this might be a little confusing. But some franchises are vastly confusing when it comes to translations. A great example of this is Soul Eater gets very confusing in that department.
Recently I found out some controversy with the matchup occurred on discord. Based on what I know on the situation. Parts of it is a lot of people disliked the matchup. Also someone who submitted the match in broke one of the rules by insulting other matches. You are allowed to criticize other people's matchups as long as you don't directly attack people over beliefs.
Lucina vs Grovyle was a huge surprise. Not long after the announcement, there's some trailers on YouTube. I'm still puzzled why an human against an pokemon? I know this is one of a few matches submitted in with that going for it. Goro vs Machamp made a lot more sense than this!!! I don't necessary dislike the matchup.
My second choice was Percy Jackson vs Zagreus, another matchup I didn't see coming. Two demigods that has an interesting arsenal that can handle anything. Sadly, Kratos vs Asura moved on does take away from this to a degree. Both these characters are in their own unique take of Greek mythology. I seen parts of the first Percy Jackson movie not much.
I had a few friends speaking highly of Hades, the game. Hades and Poseidon are two of my favorite Greek mythology Gods!!! It's still difficult to get my head around a major problem. We are comparing an RPG game character to another similar character from an novel series. Not a lot of people realizes both of those can get ridiculous.
Not only that, there's additional stuff to look for. Considering how much of the DB team likes to read. There's six particular books with Percy in them. Not only that, Zagreus himself only in one game. Although, it's an lengthy game that gotten a lot of praise. For me, I question how this matchup could work as an episode.
I also should point a few related thing for both franchises coming out. Percy Jackson getting a new show on Disney+ in December. Supposedly it's going to be better than the movies, I still haven't fully finished the first movie lol. Hades 2 which is centering on Zagreus' sister this time around coming out next year.
There's also the matter of majority really set on Pit vs Zagreus. I don't know who the most requested opponent for Percy Jackson is off hand. I actually felt Pit has more of a fighting chance against Zagreus. Pit had little to none against Sora in a previous episode. This also could've been an huge factor why it didn't win the week too.
X vs Optimus Primal quickly sold me on it. I previously recall watching Beast Wars: Transformers years ago. For a lot of people, the original Optimus Prime was their first. For me, I'm very sure Optimus Primal from this show was my first. These two robots got some strong similarities. Both got introduced in the 90s.
Both also are leaders among robots opposing evil robots that's animal/insect theme. Their arch enemies Sigma and Megatron being their leaders respectively. To clarify, this is a different Megatron as well. They also follow in the foot steps of a robot hero while taking on their mantle. Classic Mega Man and Optimus Prime that's done a little differently.
X was also created by Dr. Light who previously created classic Mega Man. Dr. Light wanted humanity to be safe in the distant future since he wasn't going to live not much longer. Optimus Primal leads a different somewhat connected robot group from the Auto Bots called The Maximals. For Optimus Primal, it's a more loose connection to the Autobots than X's connection to classic Mega Man.
I should point out, Optimus Primal does locate Optimus Prime's body. I actually want another robot episode especially with Transformers. I think it's about time, we get a different lineup of the characters onto the show. I also wanna say I really dislike Mega Man Battle Royale episode with an passion. Clearly, it was too unbalanced among other major problems.
I actually felt good knowing this will be an one on one fight. Obviously X does deserve redemption on the show. Yes it's a little questionable what Optimus Primal would be given. When they actually do the episode later down the road. Depending on that either X wins or loses. Honestly, I rather both robots has their full potential for the episode.
Optimus Primal gotten upgraded later on in the show. X has several ultimate transformations he can choose from. They also got some interesting ways to present this fight. Personally doing this in 3D would represent Primal's shows way better. Something tells me this is going to be a closer fight than expected.
I also need to point out both had particular not great entries. X has Mega Man X7, the less said the better. Primal has Beast Machines: Transformers. After watching Beast Wars: Transformers, what a letdown!!! Although, this show more directly connected the matchup together. Sigma was a virus capable of some scary situations within Mega Man X.
Beast Machines Megatron had control over Cyberton. Not Cyber whatever coughs Frieza lol. Their main enemies are strikingly similar too. X also fought Soldier Stonekong whose an ape humanoid robot character in Mega Man X7. In fact, both fought some dino robots as well as an spider robot too. Oddly Mega Man X had an OVA prequel while there actually was an Japanese Beast Wars show.
It's one of those matchups the more you look into. The more it makes sense, I actually love the idea a lot. They also could be given different forms. Which is trickier in Primal's case. "Well that's just prime!!!" LOL someone had to say it. We do need more unique robot fights on the show. I felt this is a surprisingly decent one.
I have a feeling some of you wanna know which I felt was worst out of X7 and Beast Machines: Transformers? Well X7 has much worst voice acting. Neither has stories to write home about. They were clearly attempting to spice things up. Which resulted in rather repetitive, boring stories. Beast Machines felt like an eternity despite being shorter than Beast Wars.
X7 even felt much worst with it's overall length. There's virtually little to nothing good I could possibly say about X7. The main Mavericks are among the absolute worst!!! Beast Machines made Primal more of a gru than anything else. I'm not saying he's on drugs but he does connect to the Matrix. Not that Matrix lol come on now.
God can you imagine Primal in the same Matrix as Neo? LOL still way better than replaying X7 in my opinion. Honestly, I rather watch something not great than playing an even worst video game. The decision was simply too obvious. X7 is flat out terrible while there's a handful of things I sorta liked about Beast Machines.
I do mean sorta because I almost don't like anything about Beast Machines. The main redesigns of the characters nearly made me wanna throw up. Especially when some of them had their best look while finishing out Beast Wars. Stick with Beast Wars as well as the first five Mega Man X games. I still do enjoy X8 myself it's up to you though.
In this case it's better to watch a not great animated show. Then to play such an lackluster sequel that always left a horrible taste in your mouth. Also is it so necessary for Flame Hyenard to repeatedly keep saying the famous line (sarcasm). "Burn it all to the ground!!!" Yeah I want that being played in a car's radio for hours sounds like fun right?
At least with Beast Machines they attempted something rather unexpected for the franchise. Not only that, we actually got to see how Primal's story ends as weird it may be. It's a rather ambitious concept to be forced taking on their own home planet for almost the entire show. I wish this show had more time to properly play out, it could've been among the greatest Transformers shows.
Speaking of Beast Wars, for the most part everything done incredibly well. Most CGI animated shows weren't as well received in comparison. Probably the one show I remembered best was ReBoot. Regardless, this was indirectly my entry into the Transformers franchise years ago. I also could say the same about Mega Man X series too.
Sometimes a related series you connect more to than the original respective series. This is likely the best matchup for these robot characters. Also the one I felt had the most solid connections. I really wanna see these two go at it someday. The hype for this is very huge. I do think the show could gain a lot from doing the actual episode.
Just knowing we got the successors of legendary robot characters facing each other. Already enough to sell people onto the matchup. They always done great with Transformers characters on their show. Also being an alternate version of those characters helps making this more interesting. Surprisingly going to be more balance than the original characters going at it too.
My thoughts on X vs Optimus Primal moving onto Week 10
I am very glad, X vs Optimus Primal could be one of the best episodes to date. These two are similar in many ways. At the same time, their differences are so unique to each other. There's a lot of potential depending if several additional stuff given to either character. This further proves people want more robot fights on the show.
Update: Lucina vs Groyvle will be the community fight on November 7th episode of their podcast show.
Week 7 lineup
Spike (Cowboy Bebop) vs Revy (Black Lagoon)
Hulk (Marvel) vs Godzilla (Godzilla)
Palpatine (Star Wars) vs Xehanort (Kingdom Hearts)
Ellie (The Last of Us) vs Clementine (The Walking Dead)
I voted for Spike (Cowboy Bebop) vs Revy (Black Lagoon)
My thoughts on Week 7 lineup
I will start with the one matchup I won't be voting for. As much I love Hulk, there's a few problems with this matchup. We already had Hulk in two episodes where he loss. Godzilla won his solo episode. Although through a weird loop hole we could technically say two victories. Mechagodzilla they used had the old Godzilla's ghost inside of it.
Obviously, they're both widely known radiated powerhouse characters with some truly ridiculous feats. There's no question this is going to be an epic showdown. At the same time, The Green Door further makes this more difficult to do. The Green Door is connected to anyone with radiation similar to Hulk. We could say Godzilla's isn't far off from that.
They could allow The Green Door to work with both these characters. Considering how broken their regeneration already is prior. This is close to being Doomsday vs SCP-682 but a fight with no real end. If this were Destoroyah vs Iris, it would've got closer of getting my vote here. Also The Avengers previously fought Godilla before in an crossover no joke.
Hulk already faced two of his biggest requests to date. Both were way more interesting than this!!! This too deeply impacted my decision in the poll. I can look past an giant monster facing another monster that's not his size concept. What I can't look past is two different kinds of ridiculousness these characters brings.
Let's be brutally honest here, these two are vastly broken characters stats wise. Some of their feats isn't even explained but somehow they pulled it off. I'm an huge Hulk fan myself yet I openly chose to not vote for this. I do have respect for Godzilla over the years. To me, this just isn't an matchup I wanna see happen.
Hulk can differ depending on his many personalities. Also depends on how angry he is too. The famous Hulk saying, "The angrier the Hulk is. The stronger he becomes!" Obviously all the different versions of Godzilla notably differ in stats too. Can you imagine how ridiculous an full composite fight would possibly be?
It's safe to say at best an universe possibly getting destroyed or comes close to. At worst, a few universes within the multiverse going be destroyed. Honestly, that's exactly doomed to happen with two insanely powerful, broken characters. They simply remove the safety net, only chaos will remove. There's no version of this fight going to be balanced period.
Who wouldn't want an match filled with destruction? But I don't think this could ever live up to the hype. These two are vastly different characters. We aren't even sure how many versions of both characters might be given. Which could greatly impacted this fight. Even with less than an decade apart from their original appearances.
There's a couple other characters they could've done. Like She-Hulk or some of Hulk's greatest enemies. The show does have a shortage in terms of using villain characters from both Marvel and DC. I am still amazed seven rounds in still not a single Marvel vs DC matchup. In a weird way, this ended up being surprisingly worst than any of those submitted into Tournament of Champions.
I am more in favor bringing back Godzilla. I just don't quite know who to put him against. Yes I am aware of Godzilla vs Cthulhu which is kinda interesting. When you really think about it after awhile. I'm not trying to say this is going to suck. It does technically have a few things going for the matchup. Sadly, it's the factors themselves that truly ruins such an iconic matchup.
I almost forgot to mention last year, one of the matchups up to voting was Ghidorah vs Deathwing. Which would've been an stomp in favor of Ghidorah. He's one of Godzilla's greatest enemies for crying out loud!!! I do know who Deathwing since a few relatives played World of Warcraft. I would say I'm more into seeing this over Hulk vs Godzilla too.
Now knowing Godzilla destroyed Superman in another crossover. I have even more reason to not wanna see this matchup. We got two broken powerhouse radiated monsters going at it. Some versions of Hulk does differ in their level of power. I'm not just saying the multiverse either. Hulk himself has a lot of multiple personalities as well.
There even exists Hanna-Barbera version of Godzilla. A full composite route would be incredibly ambitious to pull off. Both are wrathful creatures that usually wins majority of their fights. Neither is going to back down from a fight. It heavily plays off the animal kingdom domination concept. One of these two is ultimately superior.
The big issue is there's plenty of confusion with both characters. A major flaw in this famous matchup. I confess I'm a huge Hulk fan while I do respect Godzilla. I never wanted this particular matchup. You know it's bad when Not Death Battle done a variation of it. Not only that, there's even a slim chance it could end up being more ridiculous than Composite Ryu vs Composite Goku.
Next up is Palpatine vs Xehanort. Which was previously done as an DBX episode. I usually dislike majority of their fights on that show. This was one of a few exceptions I actually like. Sadly, this is a very unbalanced matchup continuing a similar tread Darth Vader vs Obito. Both are a follow up to hero characters facing each others episode.
The later episodes we bring in the villains to represent the opposing sides. This is more unbalanced than Vader vs Obito. Also considering Sora virtually destroyed Pit in a previous episode too. I strongly felt even doing an full composite Palpatine might not be enough here. I do have respect for Palpatine myself.
I felt Xehanort likely come out being stronger than King Mickey. But Palpatine may come out being surprisingly weaker than Vader. Which is a major concern I have about the matchup. Obviously, everyone hyping the hell out this matchup. It's virtually guarantee to move onto Week 10 with it's level of support.
It's almost as if either Palpatine or Xehanort maybe both of them had something to do with this. Of course, I always want more villain episodes myself. I always considered villains more interesting than heroes for a long time. The differences for these characters is very interesting. I actually believe this could be an massive hit for the show.
Another major reason I didn't vote for it. We're putting someone against an RPG game character. There's no question, Palpatine is a powerful character in his own universe. But Xehanort likely destroys him in stats. Also a more versal arsenal with magic that eventually refills. We're talking an gigantic negative bomb waiting to explode.
If you think about it, this matchup gives Disney, Star Wars and Final Fantasy. Another chance in Tournament of Champions. Kingdom Hearts has plenty of original characters including Xehanort. But it also has a lot of Final Fantasy characters as well as classic Disney characters too. I'm still surprised Star Wars got feature in two matchups now.
I will say I'm more in favor of this over Luke Skywalker vs Saber. This makes a lot more sense in comparison. Also having two central villain characters in such vast fan bases. I guess I shouldn't be surprised it's winning right now. It's like the famous saying, "It's good to be bad!!!" Maybe it's just me, there's also more direct depth to their abilities too.
There's virtually no question Palpatine vs Xehanort is not only the more popular matchup. But also among the matchups that makes the most sense among the entire roster too. Clearly, everybody really wanna see these two dark lords goes at it. This is going to be one truly epic showdown. Darkness will be filling everywhere like a void, which is fitting for such an matchup!!!
My runner up choice was Elli vs Clementine. I may not got to play any The Last of Us games neither seen the more recent TV show. I did look a lot into Ellie when I found out this was a match from discord. These two got a lot in common, I may check this episode out. I already fully played The Walking Dead games with Clementine.
I actually got a lot of respect for Clementine. She had quite an journey from being taught critical survival skills by Lee. Eventually, she ended up taking that role for AJ. We really get to see how much she's grown since Season 1. Based in what I looked into Ellie, she's strikingly similar to Clementine. I would even dare to say they virtually are the same character no joke.
Despite things, I fully get why a lot of people wanted this matchup. I do like the idea very much, sadly there's no way I wasn't going to support Spike vs Revy. I do wanna confirm I do also respect Ellie. I do see it's potential being a very inspiring episode. Of course, they could reference their respective game mechanics too.
I do felt this will be a close fight. Some prefer the undead being around during a zombie. Just like Leon vs Frank fight a couple years ago. I do like this more than that despite not being an fan of The Last of Us. I never claimed or stated to dislike the franchise, there's no need to cause drama by lying either. I do highly recommend those The Walking Dead games with an huge passion.
I already left The Walking Dead franchise behind. I am well aware both these game series are very heavily story driven. Obviously, a lot of people really want this matchup. It's one of the most submitted in matchups for Tournament of Champions. I actually do think this would be an great episode with everything considered.
Now for the matchup I voted for. I quickly knew I wanted to see it. I did take sometime to fully consider every matchup in this lineup. I kept coming back to Spike vs Revy. These two are strikingly similar characters. Both are skilled with guns making this an exciting gun battle. It would be very interesting to see the difference in their strategies.
Spike goes in more prepared while Revy with the right guns just doesn't care. Clearly, they're both my favorite characters in their respective franchises. I would love to see how Revy handles facing Spike's spaceship during a fight. Not only that, these two will very quickly take each other very seriously. Which means they are going to try taking out each other with every opportunity.
I personally was hoping to see The Punisher vs Judge Dredd show up on this. But to be fair, this would be the next best thing. Also this actually would've been the crazier fight. Revy got a variety of guns as shown in her shows. Spike brings in his close range fighting style. Both of them constantly held their own against the best in their respective franchises.
A lot of us are obviously going to be very curious who comes out the victory here!!! These two are legendary in their own right. They survived some tough situations. I could imagine these two meet smoking cigarettes. Suddenly both of them tried making a move on each other. Spike going after her bounty while Revy just wants to take care of her shipment.
This also has a few interesting ways to represent this fight too. Even in 3D, this could be one of the best close fights they ever done!!! In 2D it's going to be absolutely amazing work. If it happens in 2D, I really want some hand drawn portions to spice some moments up. This is a fight both are really hitting each other hard until one of them is dead period!!!
Spike vs Revy is a more fair matchup than Spike vs Gene Starwind from Outlaw Star. Gene has these rare black hole shells. Not to mention, an unusual spaceship with arms. Spike likely going to fly down to Earth. We get to see Revy taking a nap on her crew's ship. The intensity alone is already enough reason to watch it.
I just wanna point out they previously discussed Spike vs Gene on their podcast show a few years ago. I'm a huge fan of both anime series. I do wanna see Gene eventually show up on the show. I'm not sure who I would like to see him face. I kinda prefer giving him his crew as well as his spaceship. I really don't wanna see Gene vs Miroku in a strange battle of well black holes lol.
Yes I am talking about Miroku from Inuyasha. A curse passed down his family has this black hole in one of their hands. Oh god now I think about it how would this even work? Miroku prepares to use his wind tunnel. At the same time Gene swaps out for those rare black hole shells. He fires one at Miroku it makes you wonder what's going to happen the very moment these two black holes meets.
Also considering in a particular Inuyasha movie. An demon copied Miroku's curse. We actually got to see two wind tunnels going at it before. Yes this was non canon but the closest we seen to this. Not to mention in different ways using those will harm or kill the user. For Miroku, these poisonous demon insects can poison him when sucked into his wind tunnel.
When Gene uses those particular shells, a fraction of his life span is taken away. If Miroku doesn't stop using or worst pushing himself while using the wind tunnel. It could become unstable to suck him up as well. Which is exactly what happened to that demon in their fight. Look I know I'm getting off track but it's still an interesting what if battle situation.
Spike constantly held his own against Vicious. Revy isn't afraid to die after shown in her franchise. These two are virtually top tier characters with not much separating the two. In all honestly, this is even closer than James Bond vs John Wick. This actually could come down to one last move. This matchup is very well thought out chaos, where's my popcorn?
There's another major point not a lot of people considered. This episode would be a lot better than the canned Netflix live action Cowboy Bebop show, yes shots fired!!! I absolutely love everything about this matchup. Even the critical advantages aren't entirely game changing. Simply because they both have several ways to counter each other making it such an great fight.
Some could also argue Revy could be seen as an spiritual successor to Spike. I should point out Black Lagoon manga still isn't finished. It had a few anime shows while Cowboy Bebop mostly had an anime show as well as an movie. All of that is way better than that live action Cowboy Bebop show too. I really couldn't think of a better matchup for these two myself.
My thoughts on Palpatine vs Xehanort moving onto Week 10
Look I get it why so many people wants this matchup. Two evil masterminds representing the darkside facing each other has the potential of being truly epic. I never played any Kingdom Hearts games prior to the voting. I am much more familiar with Star Wars despite not being an fan. I actually do like Palpatine myself.
Two vastly different skill sets alone is already making this an fun, interesting matchup to watch. I rather see Spike vs Revy over this obviously. Also considering Legends getting added to Palpatine, this is going to be a closer fight. It's debatable how much though. In all honestly, I am happy for this matchup moving on.
Update: On November 28th episode of their podcast show. They will be discussing Hulk vs Godzilla. Personally this is one of those matchups best left forgotten. Not only that, most viewers have other interests over that entire discussion. Like the upcoming episode fight preview or they announce the final round for Tournament of Champions.
I will be brutally honest, from October to November 14th community fights were kinda interesting. Sadly I'm more in favor of muting my TV or computer when they discuss this matchup. What are they going to say to attempt peeking my interest in this abomination? Godzilla is nearly maxed already while Hulk virtually brings little to nothing regarding this show.
Quick note regarding Hulk vs Godzilla
After finding out in a comic book series Godzilla killed both Satan and God. I'm really convinced Godzilla would win that fight. Godzilla is simply the more broken character. Not to mention, his alternate versions are more vastly different from Hulks. This episode would be too insanely unbalanced to work.
Week 8 lineup
Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare on Elm Street) vs Pennywise (IT)
Skeletor (Masters of the Universe) vs Lord Zedd (Power Rangers)
Sans (Undertale) vs The Judge (OFF)
The Grinch (Dr. Seuss) vs Jack Skellington (Disney)
I voted for Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare on Elm Street) vs Pennywise (IT)
Short bonus section
This is one of those fifty fifty things. Either you're on the same side as me being very mind blown. But you might be on the other side not surprised at all. What I am talking about is Galactus vs Unicron didn't show up. Neither does any Marvel vs DC matchups either. I know how they select matchups for this is random.
With the possible exception of Larfleeze vs Annihilus. Most of them were obvious stomps. Although Larfleeze vs Annihilus also comes off being rigged since Annihilus can't be killed off for good. According to the rules, Annihilus is allowed to keep coming back. Regardless, I never was planning to vote for any Marvel vs DC matchups from the beginning.
I still wanna say thank you, I felt majority of this is more balanced out without those. I don't expect any Marvel vs DC matchups to make it the first round. Honestly, I'm even happier I took part in this masterpiece of an experience. I am feeling a bit sad this will conclude round 1 despite the process being two months long.
Prior to Week 8, some of us assumed. Any community fight wouldn't show up for Tournament of Champions. Then all of a sudden two recent community fights showed up. I also need to point out, they previously covered Skeletor vs Lord Zedd on their podcast show a few years ago. I guess the stars lined up.
Jack vs Grinch episode aired on October 24th, the same episode showed Week 7 lineup.
The more recent Skeletor vs Lord Zedd episode aired on Halloween showing Week 8 lineup.
You could say Week 8 ended up being the most interesting. I confessed I liked two of them cosplay as Skeletor and Lord Zedd respectively. To clarify, Chad brought out his full Skeletor costume from last night. Ben out of no where got out this Lord Zedd helmet. I always welcome an Halloween episode where people dress up to a degree.
Also Skeletor I voted against you last year too. I voted for Ghost Rider I'm not sorry lol.
My thoughts on Week 8 lineup
I'm mostly familiar with majority of these characters. I never played Undertale or OFF before. I actually never heard of OFF prior to the voting no lie. I was recently hearing people on discord talking about this matchup. I may consider giving it a watch if it happens. I'm sure a lot of people are very happy with these matchups in general.
I did looked into the matchup. My feelings didn't change much. I simply more into the other three matchups. Although I shall give it some credit. Indie video games is deeply underrated. I'm happy this matchup finally made it on. Sometimes these games is way better than mainstream ones. I mostly know Sans from Cartoon Fight Club.
I also like cats except for Blake from RWBY. In fact, I voted for Inuyasha not sorry lol. I'm also happy Zagreus from Hades happen it as well. I could imagine a lot of people on their discord were very happy with Sans vs The Judge showed up. I would say it's on I'll watch which is better than not interested or bad.
Honestly, we do need more indie game matchups. Some of my favorite indie games is Postal 2, Garry's Mod, AVGN series and UnMetal respectively. I especially love retro style indie games. Those will always mean something to me. This matchup does kinda grow on you overtime. If it wins, I hope more indie game matchups happens on the show too.
Quick honorable mentions
I recently gotten my hands on a few indie games. I'm not sure if Black Mesa counts since it's a mod remake of the original Half-Life on Source engine. A game I do wanna talk about it in a future review. An friend told me about an game called The Black Heart. This is like if Mortal Kombat was more Silent Hill nightmare fuel style, I absolutely love it!!!
I also felt Skullgirls does deserve some praise too. I really enjoying Puppet Master: The Game. Despite it's currently in Beta, one of my absolute favorite multiplayer games ever!!! Cultic is another truly amazing indie game I really enjoyed. I'm sure there's a few others I played that's worth mentioning too. In all seriousness, indie video games are some of the absolute greatest games I ever played!!!
Alright back to our original programming.
Skeletor vs Lord Zedd, I remembered when people used to want Skeletor taking on Mumm-Ra. But to be very honest, I really prefer him facing Lord Zedd more. I grew up with Power Rangers to a degree, of course I know who Lord Zedd is. I used to have a big toy of him back in the day. I do felt they could do a lot of these matchups to make it truly epic!!!
There's no question, I'll watch the episode the day it comes out. Two great iconic skeleton evil tyrants with different ways to destroy planets. I also recently heard Lord Zedd became among the most powerful beings in his universe. I would love to see how awesome the actual fight going to be. I simply love the idea way too much.
We have an evil tyrant that can transform anything into a monster. Including an woman's purse that so happened to belong to the pink ranger no joke. We're putting this guy against another evil tyrant who actually can fight on equal ground with He-Man. I would love to see Serpentera make an appearance. Just imagine Lord Zedd piloting Serpentera blowing up an planet.
At the same time, Skeletor using his wits somehow survived the planet explosion. Then Lord Zedd gets notify Serpentera being low on energy. Out of no where we see Skeletor lifting Serpentera. Obviously freaking Lord Zedd out in the process. Skeletor going to attempt throwing Serpentera into the sun. Lord Zedd might be given access to his Master Zedd form to help even things out.
I do wanna point out Lord Zedd was the first villain exclusive to Power Rangers. Most villains at the time were brought over from the original Japanese show, Super Sentai. Both shows are still ongoing with a lot of seasons. I strongly felt it's about time we get some of these amazing villain characters onto their show.
A good amount of this already way more interesting than Skeletor vs Mumm-Ra. Lord Zedd is a powerful being. But the same also can be said for Skeletor. They also use their staff during fights. Personally I may be a sucker for skeletons for the most part. Which does include Jack Skellington as well.
I do get why a lot of people prefer Skeletor vs Mumm-Ra. I do think that's a good fight as well. To me, it just isn't as crazy neither making as much sense in comparison. Also we aren't even sure if Mumm-Ra can die or not. I wouldn't mine a three way fight with these three myself. Now that would be even better making everyone happy in the long run.
We could easily get them from Freddy vs Pennywise too. I will say these two are truly iconic villains. Obviously everyone really wants this matchup to happen. Anywhere this fight takes place isn't safe. We even could get an war with their henchmen too. There's so many crazy, interesting possibilities to make it a great episode.
The Grinch vs Jack Skellington I know some people are partly struggling why these two. Everyone knows about Grinch's classic book as well as the Christmas special. The Nightmare Before Christmas movie is a holiday classic. Yes I'm also aware of the famous holiday debate. Is The Nightmare Before Christmas an Halloween or Christmas movie?
Here's my response to that debate can it be both? Some parts of the movie took place on Halloween. The ending portions took place on Christmas. Therefore I personally see it as an Halloween/Christmas movie. Not a lot of them knows about Grinch's Halloween special. Which means this matchup could actually happen either for Halloween or Christmas.
I actually rewatched Halloween is Grinch Night special. Then recently I finally got to watch The Grinch Grinches the Cat in the Hall special. Yes The Grinch took on The Cat in the Hat through technology. Although the dark house, Jack would deeply enjoy himself. This is a surprisingly interesting holiday matchup the more you think about it.
Obviously, it had to be one of the last episodes of the season for the timing to be done just right. Personally I really love this idea too. The Grinch wanted to ruin Christmas for the town. But he had a change of heart to celebrate the holiday with them instead. Jack's case, he simply wanted to celebrate Halloween more than once an year.
He never had bad intentions when he tried Christmas out with his Halloween tastes. A musical has to happen at some point in this fight too. Obviously sorry Liam no Kingdom Hearts baby lol. I often get stuff theme after these two for Christmas. This is quite an personal fight for me. I actually was close to vote for it no joke.
The crazy part is a lot of people get horror theme Christmas presents around the world. So the idea of an more horror theme Christmas is still surprisingly realistic. Can you imagine if Jack would've done other holidays like Easter or St. Patrick's Day? The Easter Bunny would've been nastier towards him. I am rather curious what about April Fools Day, my least favorite holiday?
They also can be a little creative but ambitious with how to present this fight too. You kinda want the classic Christmas special style with some clever touches to fit in The Nightmare Before Christmas. Which would made Grinch's Halloween special way better. These two are very different making how they go about things more interesting as well.
I recently learned there's more Grinch stuff I didn't know existed. The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss is a show with many classic characters including The Grinch. Which also involved the same company responsible for The Muppets as well as Sesame Street. Yes, The Grinch does have his own puppet figure on the show.
There's another rather interesting connection. It's more directly towards something both characters starred in. How the Grinch Stole Christmas! special with Boris Karloff. Along with The Nightmare Before Christmas movie, both were considered too scary for children. But both ended up becoming holiday classics everyone loved.
I will throw out how I would go about the fight presentation. Yes this will be incredibly ambitious. I would use stop motion for Jack Skellington with an Grinch puppet. Parts of the animation will closely appear a good mixture of both their franchises. Of course, at one point both characters gotta sing during the fight too.
Also clearly using the right coloring filters, we got the perfect recreation of both their franchises. Obviously, this would take a long time to pull off. Can you imagine the entire DB team pulled something like this off? I really do love the idea of these holiday figures going at it. The level of creativity it has is virtually mind blowing!!!
Freddy vs Pennywise, I'm virtually mind blown. This is among the most submitted matchups to actually made it to Tournament of Champions. This is a huge horror fight debate topic. It's nearly all over the internet, everyone really wants these two to face each other. Two god like horror icons that exploit fear of their victims.
They also both originally debut in the 80s, IT book before someone throws in the 90s IT mini series. Considering their powers, there's so much they possibly could do with this fight!!! Freddy always been my favorite slasher villain. Pennywise I always heavily respected for years. I couldn't think of a better, fitting opponent for them than each other.
They are strikingly similar villain characters. Obviously, this is going to be an very ambitious episode. At the same time, it could be one of the greatest they ever done!!! Freddy also brings in the comics like they previously done for Michael as well as Jason. Pennywise also appeared in a few other Stephen King stories.
To me, this is way more unique, interesting in comparison to Michael vs Jason. Freddy is such an rememberable horror movie villain. You know they have to get Freddy make a joke or two during the fight. Pennywise I felt is going to be down right terrifying. Both of them got parodied on The Simpsons through Treehouse of Horror episodes with Pennywise being an bonus Halloween episode.
Even considering Freddy vs Dr. Destiny. I strongly felt this out of all his known matchups makes the most sense. Both often prey on children or teens in a particular small town. They got a lot of the same powers making them god like beings. This would open the door to more horror theme matchups. It also would bring in Stephen King's multiverse as well.
Freddy can manipulate the dream world in so many ways. Pennywise terrorizes people in the real world. He just can't use his true form, a popular misconception. A lot of people thinks the spider form being his true form. However we actually know his true form could cause insanity or someone not capable of accepting it.
All we know about his true form is the dead lights being an actual part of that form. A lot of people also doesn't realize we mostly see his avatar. Which makes him similar to DC's Darkseid in that regard. They could alter fight presentation during the fight. They previously done so a handful of times. This would be a great one to be truly ambitious on.
I'm sure this episode is going to clear a lot of things up. It's the most complex out of all the matchups in this lineup by far. Freddy is like an God inside the Dream World. At the same time, Pennywise had to use an loop hole to exist in universes through his avatars. Despite limitations, these two are absolute monsters right down to their very core!!!
There's a couple horror matchups I really wanna see. Such as Ash Williams vs Frank West, hell yes!!! Chucky vs Slappy I loved so much I had to directly submitted it into Tournament of Champions. Sadly I was the only one to do so. I also wanna see Leprechaun vs Djinn. Not likely going to happen but it makes perfect sense to do.
I do have some interest in Pinhead vs Tall Man. Although, I rather see Tall Man face Vecna from Stranger Things more. Of course, there's Gremlins vs Critters. Who doesn't wanna see that? I actually have another Goosebumps childhood dream match too. Masked Mutant from Goosebumps taking on Ghastly Grinner from Are You Afraid of the Dark?
Another bigger scale horror matchup I'm really interested in. This one has the potential being one of the greatest comical horror episodes they ever done!!! Klowns vs Martians, two cult classic comical horror movies. To me, this was a very good idea. This virtually has everything going for it. We also haven't seen an army theme episode in a little while either.
I'm also an founding member for the Facebook group History of Horror. We do actually have real celebrities in the group no lie. I actually talked to one of the more recent actors to play Pinhead. To clarify, Paul T. Taylor who played the character in Hellraiser: Judgment. Honestly, we simply need more horror theme episodes on the show.
Horror is among the most creativity genre regardless movies, shows, songs, video games, etc... The entire point of watching horror movies is either get scared or watch people getting killed. Mostly in slasher horror movies. Not only that, they could also make these iconic characters their own too. As long it doesn't end up like some sequels and remakes I'm fine.
My thoughts on Sans vs The Judge moving onto Week 10
I'm still quite surprised with such an strong, Halloweenish lineup. Honestly, congratulations you blew my expectations away. I can only wish you luck for Week 10 since I'm going to vote for another matchup. I will say it's a well deserve respect for indie video games. The fact this barely made it then won the week is quite impressive indeed.
How is Halloweenish not an word? Especially when a lot of people use it especially close to or on Halloween. Then again quotes like D'oh from The Simpsons got inside dictionaries. I guess it depends whose saying it or how they're using the word. It was a good lineup for the holiday alright. It still my favorite overall lineup for round 1 hands down.
I will give more credit, I expected this to get crushed badly. I really didn't expected for this to crush the other three matchups in the voting. Also considering such an lineup, this earned respect from me. I kinda see the weirdness of it being a major factor why it won the votes. Maybe Sans was that incredibly popular who really knows.
What we do know is they earned an spot in the Week 10 lineup. Which is shaping up to be an solid lineup. To me, Week 9 lineup is slightly better. I do think this should do a little better than expected. I don't know what it's actual chances will be until the voting begins. Probably the most fair thing I possibly could say.
Sans vs The Judge is still likely something I'll watch. Which is saying a lot for some matchups I just don't like. Yes I am looking at you, Hulk vs Godzilla!!! Not only that, the fight presentation will be unique. The music should be a nice combination of their respective games as well. It's about time an episode about indie game characters happens!!!
Week 9 lineup
Monokuma (Danganronpa) vs Korosensei (Assassination Classroom)
Gru (Despicable Me) vs Megamind (Megamind)
Sailor Moon (Sailor Moon) vs Madoka (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)
Wile E. Coyote (Looney Tunes) vs Tom Cat (Tom & Jerry)
I voted for Wile E. Coyote (Looney Tunes) vs Tom Cat (Tom & Jerry)
My Vote Tom vs Wile Week 9 video (Death Battle)
I recreated both Wile and Tom to do an custom character match in Soulcalibur VI
What I'm about to say also applies to Week 10 lineup as well. It's kinda weird they labeled both these rounds as Semi Finals. Which it technically is but I would've prefer a more fitting name. What about It's Beginning of the End or Rounding Out? Look I get it both has four matches each up to voting. They simply can't call it Semi Finale for obvious reasons.
Now this is what you call an Champions lineup!!! All four of these episodes could be truly amazing for the show in different ways. I do believe there's going to be some emotions all over this discord that week. I also expect very high amount of votes too. We have the four previous winners facing each other.
Only one can move onto the final week. In other words, one step closer to happening next season for the show. This is actually a difficult lineup to decide. I could easily vote majority of them for a lot of reasons. It really came down to which matchup I had the most reasons to support. Also which ones came closest of being an dream fight.
I personally kept coming back to Wile E. Coyote vs Tom Cat. I really think this is too good of an idea to not vote against. It really has so much going for the matchup. Maybe it's a little bias to say I did grew up with both Wile & Tom. Sailor Moon being another character from my childhood. Ultimately those classic cartoons meant so much to me.
In all honestly, you really can't go wrong here. This lineup could be parts of an actual season of the show. Everyone would be very happy with that no question. I really wasn't kidding how solid of an lineup we got here. We the champions put this epic lineup together, we all should be very proud of ourselves.
I will confirm Monokuma vs Korosensei is technically my second choice. Gru vs Megamind not too far behind it. As much I would love to see one of them get an redemption through the show. We have two over the top educators that has rather different views within their education methods. For me, it comes closer to Wile vs Tom than the rest of them.
Not to add salt, I already knew Sailor Moon vs Madoka wasn't getting my vote. Yes Sailor Moon may helped introduced me to one of my biggest passions being anime. At the same time, most of this lineup is way more interesting in comparison. Not only that, there's absolutely no way I'm voting against Tom vs Wile E. Coyote period!!!
I knew the voting would get close between two matchups. Gru vs Megamind & Wile E. Coyote vs Tom respectively. Clearly both sides really wants their matchup to happen. It's somewhat more interesting than the last few weeks. I'm going full in with Wile vs Tom regardless. You never know for sure until the voting ends.
Update: I did look more into Gru vs Megamind. I recently place it among my bigger requests. It's not necessary among my top 10 requests though. I still would love to see these two go at it. I do agree this matchup does have a lot going for it. Easily, one of the most interesting matchups in Tournament of Champions.
My thoughts on Tom vs Wile E. Coyote moving onto Final Week
It truly deserves to win for the most reasons. Also for beating out Gru vs Megamind in a strong lineup here. This episode has so many ways to keep things interesting as well as entertaining. This was the one matchup I planned to support from the Semi Finals. You can only imagine how truly happy I was this made it to the final round.
I also expect it also has a very strong chance to win Tournament of Champions. Why shouldn't it is a great question? This would be the most ambitious research wise. At the same time, it also the most fun potentially episode out of the entire Semi Final lineups as well. In all honestly, I'm deeply proud to vote for this once again.
Oh we're not done yet, a few weeks ago on Teen Titans Go! show. There was the 100th Warner Brothers Anniversary special with so many characters. Yes both Tom and Wile are among the long list of characters. This is currently the closest we ever gotten to an crossover with both these characters. I don't know why it took so long to have both of them in anything together?
Here's a link to a video showing both characters are in this anniversary crossover event down below...
Quick note regarding Coyote vs. ACME movie situation
Yes I been hearing a lot about this movie. At one point, Warner Brothers canceled it. Then due to back lash from a lot of people, they reversed that decision. This actually sounds like a rather interesting Looney Tunes movie. Wrestler John Cena is in the movie, we don't know his role. For years, ACME inventions kept backfiring on Coyote.
This film was meant to finally give us an definitive answer on that. Which already more interesting than a lot of Tom and Jerry movies. Seriously, some of those crossovers are full blown cash in rip offs!!! Now this could be a work of art!!! There's a lot they can do with the concept. This could've became an exclusive stream film over the cancellation.
Before I found out they changed that decision. Of course, I was upset they weren't going to give us that movie!!! I mean who wouldn't know a long standing mystery centering the character right? The film will be portrayed similar to Space Jam series as well as Looney Tunes: Back in Action. Most of those are likely way better than a similar style Tom & Jerry movie!!!
I also wanna say for the record, I really dislike Space Jam: A New Legacy. The less said about it, the better. I do believe Wile truly deserves his spot light. He's so used getting shorts, shows and video games. This would be the first time he ever gotten his very own movie. Yes he appeared in several Looney Tunes films prior.
It just isn't the same!!! The test audience for this film were very positive. Which is a great sign this movie going to be well worth the wait. Unless Warner Brothers pulls well another ACME move lol. Maybe they're secretly ACME the entire time who really knows. I will be looking to see this movie when it comes out.
Week 10 lineup
Kratos (God of War) vs Asura (Asura's Wrath)
Just like Week 9 lineup, this is another truly solid, fitting lineup for Tournament of Champions. I do like majority of these matchups. No surprise I'm still not voting for Kratos vs Asura. Originally I would've voted for X vs Optimus Primal. The thing that kinda hurts it is people don't fully know what may be considered for him.
So we actually question if he has a shot at beating X or not on the show. I already went out of my way to watch two of Optimus Primal's shows. I do heavily recommend Beast Wars show. Stay away from it's sequel show, Beast Machines. It's virtually how X7 was to it's own franchise I'm not kidding. Indirectly those are also hurting the matchup too.
I'm still not that interested into Sans vs The Judge. I may pull an Palpatine move here. Yes I'm going to the dark side!!! Palpatine vs Xehanort surprisingly got my vote. Despite it's major problems, it's still going to be an great episode for the show. If it's DBX fight surprisingly decent for fights on that show. I would imagine the Death Battle version of the same fight going to be way better in comparison.
I do feel the Force is strong with this one!!! Who wouldn't wanna two evil masterminds going at it? Personally, I'm a bigger fan of Skeletor vs Lord Zedd myself. Unfortunately it got eliminated, I had to do the next best thing instead. In all honestly, this is going to be an heavily hype episode. Virtually everyone wants these two evil lords to go at it, I'm loving it!!!
There isn't many villain theme episodes on the show. A lot of them are actually among my favorite episodes. Such as Sauron vs Lich King and Black Adam vs Apocalypse to name a few. After awhile you kinda start getting tired of seeing hero characters very often on the show. I'm not seeing I'm against more heroes we haven't had before coming to the show either.
Sometimes, villains is simply more interesting than their hero counterparts. Am I right Captain Planet? LOL someone had to knew that was coming. On a more serious note, villain matchups works even better for this show. There isn't much they need to change in comparison to the heroes. Not only that, some of these villain characters are virtually timeless too.
Palpatine vs Xehanort also would make a full cycle from Yoda vs King Mickey. Sadly when it does happen, there's no more room for related matches. Assuming there are some anyway. I do think in a few ways it could out do Yoda vs King Mickey. It's debatable how much it's going to live up to insane hype. I still think it's going to be an great episode.
I just can't believe it, Kratos vs Asura getting allowed to move on. It already had it's chance last year, Wile vs Tom should win!!! I'm not going to hide how upset this made me. The matchup changed so much it isn't worth doing anymore. I'm even more in favor of Kratos vs Dante at this point. There's no way there's enough people to beat Wile vs Tom either.
Both characters been to Hell before. I hope this matchup goes there. It's almost like they wanna make it happen so it never shows up again in the future polls. Which is kinda sad when you think about it. I strongly felt the true matchup to win is one majority really wants. Not to give it to an matchup that previously loss another poll out of guilt.
In all honestly, I do sorta get why so many people wants it. I personally prefer a few matches with either character much more. But hey who am I to tell you how to vote? If that's what you really want then vote for it. Personally it took out Homer vs Peter, I refuse to vote for it period. In the end, it better lose against Wile vs Tom or I'll be very unhappy.
I am heavily disappointed the last Semi Finals round isn't going to be as heated as a few previous rounds. I do expect one to end it all on. Kratos vs Asura is simply an match I refuse to support. I could wish the supporters good luck. You may actually need it for the final round. Until then, enjoy what may be your last victory in Tournament of Champions!!!
Update: Due to Thanksgiving the team took a break to celebrate the holiday with their families. Week 11 aka the final round now begins on November 28th. Tournament of Champions officially ending on December 25th. I hope this clears up any confusion. Also the podcast episode on November 28th will be prerecorded before they took their break.
Update: A post on November 27th they made on their YouTube account. They said they gave people an extra week of voting. When in truth, it was previously confirmed to end on my birthday November 21st. Not to mention, very early on disapprovingly Kratos vs Asura already won the voting. The previous poll was meant to be taken down prior to their Thanksgiving break.
Wile E. Coyote (Looney Tunes) vs Tom (Tom & Jerry)
I voted for Wile E. Coyote (Looney Tunes) vs Tom (Tom & Jerry)
Here's an meme I made during the final voting period down below...
I think this is my favorite vote Wile vs Tom meme I made down below...
I also made a meme to help kick this off down below...
The trailer announcement weirdly labeled this as Grand Finals. Maybe it's referencing the final two matchups up to voting. I'm not fully sure at this point. Still way better than Semi Finals, I don't know it quite doesn't work to me. The final lineup isn't one I expected to see. At the same time, I'm feeling surprisingly great Wile vs Tom got this in the bag.
This is an strangely interesting showdown we got here. On one hand we got two legendary cartoon characters dating back to the 1940s. On the other we have Gods that held their own against other Gods. Honestly, for me the vote was too easy to make. Wile vs Tom has a lot more to offer than this. Not only that, everyone going to really enjoy this much more as well.
How is Gods going to compete with toon forcing cartoon characters? Oh wait it can't, these two with their long histories going to make a very fun episode from start to finish. The entertainment level is through the roof. It also doesn't help Asura only in one game!!! Seriously I don't see enough people backing that up against this!!!
These two cartoon characters can really take punishment. The debate how much they could endure is rather interesting. Plenty of interesting situations that could be played out in the fight too. It's an more equal level fight in comparison to an stomp in favor of Kratos don't you agree? Wile vs Tom simply offers a lot more in every sense of the word.
For me, it would come off being rigged if Kratos vs Asura wins. At least someone said it, there's no way it's going to beat out Wile vs Tom!!! Majority of the community really knows these two characters. How many of them knows either Kratos or Asura? Probably not nearly as many right? I may come off being bias but it's also the more realistic take on this too.
If you really want an fight with much more limited content compared to the insane amount Wile vs Tom has. By every mean vote for Kratos vs Asura. We got a joke character capable of doing anything!!! More recently weirdly enough on an special for Teen Titans Go! coughs garbage. Both Wile and Tom showed up in the two part special is very mind blowing.
A lot of people heavily grew up on classic cartoons. A major factor why this matchup gotten as far as it did. It's an strong competitor to win Tournament of Champion. Kratos vs Asura is mostly being supported by people that for some odd reason wants these two to go at it. Especially when both has better matchups that makes more sense.
Yes you get to understand how the Death Battle community works. There's a lot of interesting opinions on a lot of matchups on their discord group. I know I'm sorta directly attacking Kratos vs Asura supporters. Look Wile vs Tom offers so much more. In fact, you could go in knowing majority what to expect to still end up being very surprise how it plays out.
Last I checked, you can't say that about Kratos vs Asura. Yes I really want Kratos vs Asura to lose. If it does, Homer vs Peter you been avenged!!! I really do mean lose Tournament of Champions by all means. Obviously when Kratos vs Asura beating out Homer vs Peter suddenly became the lone exception.
I will confess, I recently gotten my hands on Asura's Wrath. I actually loved the game with an passion. Sadly, it will never match up to hours of enjoying these classic cartoons as a kid. I previously been around the first two God of War games back in the day. For me, the obvious choice that majority going to love always will be Wile vs Tom.
Another major thing Wile vs Tom got is a lot of movies. Not to mention, a lot of shows as well. Even video games to a degree. There's plenty of interesting ideas just piling up fast for Wile vs Tom. In comparison Kratos vs Asura heavily leans towards a more repetitive route. Let's be honest, they won't have the needs to make it stand out the way most Kratos vs Asura blindly believes.
Obviously Kratos and Asura can die as shown in their own games. Death is a rather questionable topic for Wile vs Tom. This is miles even more ridiculous than Scooby-Doo vs Courage. For such an iconic cartoon matchup, I really can't criticize it. Believe me I tried, it's such a damn great idea!!! Wile vs Tom I predict going to win Tournament of Champions.
I would be deeply over joyed if Wile vs Tom wins in the end. The stars are literately lining up for it. Also considering either character lacks an main canon, they got to look at everything. Even the Death Battle team really wanna do it over Kratos vs Asura. I say let's make it happen, vote for Wile vs Tom please?
A lot of people really wants Wile vs Tom to happen. Let's be honest why shouldn't it happen? This matchup is packed with more than enough to make it an truly timeless classic. This would be the closer fight out of the two. What's good is Gods? If we got two legendary toon forcers going at it? The list of stuff that could happen is piling up high at an insane rate.
The winning matchup of Tournament of Champions is Wile E. Coyote vs Tom
My thoughts on Wile E. Coyote vs Tom won Tournament of Champions
This really felt like a dream come true. Also that's for taking out Homer vs Peter, Kratos vs Asura!!! In all honestly, majority picked the right matchup to make happen on their show. This was the one matchup that had virtually everything. It also had the biggest reasons to happen over the rest. Wile vs Tom is going to be an episode everyone dying to see.
Look I am well aware of many people heavily against the matchup. We all have different taste you are allowed to voice your opinions. Just don't do anything crossing the line we will be fine. A few people on Twitch are openly hating on Wile vs Tom with an passion. They fail to see how this actually makes themselves look bad rather than forcing down their visions onto others.
Back to Wile vs Tom, it's guarantee to be an timeless classic. One of the biggest research required matchups in Tournament of Champions by far. We are going all the way back to the 1940s for this particular matchup. Not only that, what's good are Gods? If we have two toon forcers with similar abilities with questionable durability.
Not only that people really wants these two to get quite looney!!! Which I do think this is the ideal classic cartoon matchup to do so. The level of support this matchup got is ridiculous. I would say any week I get to talk to fellow supporters for this matchup is always been a lot of fun. I really can't say that about some of the matchups I voted for on discord wise.
Wile vs Tom in every sense of the word packed with some rather interesting choices. Virtually the entire Death Battle team going to love working on this episode. Obviously for all the right reasons. This is how you know we chosen the right matchup to make happen on their show. I strongly felt Wile vs Tom was the ideal matchup that should win Tournament of Champions above many others.
I almost left because of Goku vs Superman 3 episode announcement. I will stay to watch this episode. After that, we will see what happens afterwards. I will say this Wile vs Tom is such an great idea for an episode. This would open the insane cartoon possibilities that could happen on their show. Wile vs Tom is easily too looney for the other matchups to handle.
A lot of people probably doesn't even know this fact. An user named Lofty started supporting Wile vs Tom last year. Some point mid last year, a lot of people got on board with the matchup. Kratos vs Asura has been popular for a long time. So the fact it's losing to a surprisingly recent huge request is mind blowing.
Sadly I won't be celebrating Wile vs Tom winning Tournament of Champions on their discord. I actually planned to leave it behind not long following this. I am really excited, I can not wait to see Wile vs Tom next year!!! Already the one episode I'm looking forward to next season. In all honestly, the list of reasons kept piling up making it even better in the long run.
We all can agree this is going to be an really great episode. There's so many ways to keep the episode entertaining. It's quite rare when their episodes being really entertaining from start to finish. I strongly felt this could be among the best of them they ever done!!! Wile vs Tom fully deserves to happen on their show for all the right seasons.
This matchup virtually has something for everyone. I don't think Kratos vs Asura going to ever live up to the hype. Although we are asking the Death Battle team to fully cover both these classic cartoon characters. They gotta do it within an year is going to be quite an challenge. But considering some recent episodes with some long legacy characters, I felt it's in good hands.
Here is a long post I made to celebrate Wile vs Tom's victory down below...
I will give my speech right now since I'm leaving tomorrow. When I found out about this matchup. I also felt like I can relive my childhood. I heavily grew up with these cartoons. I can't name a matchup with more great reasons to happen over this one. It virtually has something for everyone to possibly enjoy it.
The level of creativity alone is going to be truly mind blowing. I am deeply proud to support and helped got Wile vs Tom to happen. Of course I couldn't do something this amazing alone. Every single one of you came together to make this an reality. Wile vs Tom is something too special to let pass through our finger tips.
The world truly deserves happiness especially laughter. Plenty of cartoon history to make one of the funniest episodes they ever done!!! Also Lofty thank you so much for submitting this matchup into Tournament of Champions, I deeply appraise it.
Just in case anyone was wondering yes Lofty who submitted Wile vs Tom into Tournament of Champions not only seen my long post. He also had a nice response as well. I do still wanna to personally thank every single Wile vs Tom supporter. We all came together to make this an reality, I really can't wait to see this myself.
Update: The video in question got removed. I ended up getting an copyright strike from YouTube, I deeply apologize for the inconvenience.
This is me sharing my thoughts on the last community fight during Tournament of Champions
Originally I wasn't going to discuss the community fight for the upcoming podcast show. Considering they will be ending Tournament of Champions while discussing it I may as well give my quick thoughts on it. Here's a particular matchup including myself they should've done. Also considering one of these characters currently an guest character in Mortal Kombat 1, I felt the timing was perfect.
They will be discussing Bardock vs Omni-Man. Which is essentially similar to Goku vs Superman. At the same time, I actually felt this one would be somewhat more balanced. We are the respective fathers of famous heroes in those universes that were originally villains. Both came from warrior alien races, no we aren't talking about Predators lol.
Eventually both turned against their races that led to their respective deaths. I am not entirely sure if Bardock might be given his super saiyan form. This might come as a huge surprise, I actually wanna see this matchup. No really, it does have some appeal to be something truly great. Which Goku vs Superman in my opinion will never be!!!
It's more fair than Piccolo vs Martian Manhunter. I still can't believe a lot of people prefer that over Silver Surfer vs Martian Manhunter. I really don't want the stomp being Piccolo vs Martian Manhunter. Yes I'm well aware about Orange Piccolo but not game changing enough. Back to Bardock vs Omni-Man, it's already more interesting than a few Gohan matchups I know of.
Not only that, we get to more directly see the old ways of their respective alien races in an episode. Yes they previously done another stomp with Omni-Man owning Homelander. I am a huge fan of the episode because I really don't like Homelander. I actually came to respect Omni-Man prior to that episode.
I figure someone would like to know who I think going to win this fight right? In all honestly, Bardock's super saiyan form isn't game changing enough. It may delay the inevitable to a degree. I will be honest Omni-Man likely trumps in stats. He has a lot more overall experience in comparison. His race is so durable, they don't even need armor.
Saiyan armor isn't that durable. Hell beings like Goku is insanely powerful proves the saiyans wouldn't need em either. Sadly most of them around their planet destruction weren't bright as well as very arrogant. They didn't even listen to Bardock about Frieza about to destroy their planet. Omni-Man simply has too much over Bardock, he wins.
I will say this would be more of an actual fight in comparison to owning Homelander with ease. The connections I felt will be more direct as well. The entire fight animation going to be some amazing stuff. Especially if it comes off being like Frieza vs Megatron. I felt this would be both characters' most ideal matchup for the show, let's make it happen!!!
I confess I may was very hard on Kratos vs Asura. I do sorta feel bad for it's supporters. You guys indirectly got the same matchup to become the runner up twice. Your matchup should been given a spot in Season 11 just for being the runner up both those times. I do think there's some parts that could work. I just felt as an matchup, it needs more in the long run especially against Wile vs Tom.
I do imagine the 3D animation for this would be truly sick. The fight song should be among the best of the season. I do actually like both these characters myself. I know I shouldn't made things personal when Homer vs Peter loss to it. For those willing to hear me out I am truly sorry for the stuff I said about Kratos vs Asura.

Dr. Seuss
I didn't include Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series because it's an alternate series within an series. Like Mega Man X up to Legends for Mega Man series. Also it's quite rare when they use alternate canons instead of the main ones. Regardless, I figured someone probably going to think about asking why. Also other Mega Man series are within one long shared canon for the record.
Wile E. Coyote
Monkey D. Luffy
Lucina
I wanna rank every match I voted for from worst to best. But I do want to make it very clear. Even the bottom matchup is still an decent one. I'm very proud to had voted for every single one. Obviously, everyone got their own opinions. We all have matchups we absolutely love as well as matches we aren't much for or strongly dislike in general.
9. X vs Optimus Primal
8. Palpatine vs Xehanort
7. Zeus vs Odin
6. Freddy Krueger vs Pennywise
5. Korosensei vs Monokuma
4. Spike vs Revy
3. Scorpion vs Wolf
2. Homer Simpson vs Peter Griffin
1. Wile E. Coyote vs Tom
I'm sure some people may get the idea to create an season with their votes. I already felt my votes would make a rather interesting, entertaining season. Which somehow made me even happier I'm doing this concept for fun. Honestly, I would like to see other people do this too. Trust me, it's a lot of fun to do.
1. X vs Optimus Primal (Season Premiere)
2. Homer Simpson vs Peter Griffin
3. Korosensei vs Monokuma
4. Scorpion vs Wolf
5. Palpatine vs Xehanort
6. Freddy Krueger vs Pennywise (Halloween episode)
7. Spike vs Revy
8. Zeus vs Odin
9. Wile E. Coyote vs Tom (Season Finale)
Considering I'm talking about the matchups I absolutely love. Sadly you only get one vote. Yes you are allowed to swap out votes, personally I see that as cheating. There's a few matchups if the lineups were different. I would love to vote for instead. No one ever said voting was going to be easy. Especially when some of your big dream fights are on the line.
I figured another fun, interesting idea I wanna see from other people. What are the matchups you really came close to voting for during Tournament of Champions? I'm sure a lot of people really wanted one or two matchups even in the same lineup. But for different reasons had to vote for the matches they wanted most.
5. Ellie vs Clementine
4. Percy Jackson vs Zagreus
3. Gru vs Megamind
2. Skeletor vs Lord Zedd
1. The Grinch vs Jack Skellington
I want to help give you an idea how close the top 2 matchups were to me. I absolutely loved the idea of Skeletor vs Lord Zedd. There's just something for everyone in The Grinch vs Jack Skellington. It also would be the most unique episode out of the entire list as well. I was really close to vote for it in Week 8, sadly it received the fewest votes.
I also wanna reveal which matchups I'm not a huge fan of. There's a couple I absolutely loved. There's a good amount of them I just wasn't interested in. Then we have a few matchups I dislike a lot. Obviously, this will be my controversial thoughts section. Everyone has different taste, this is my personal view in what I look for in a fight.
7. Luke Skywalker vs Saber
6. Peacemaker vs Soldier Boy
5. Scott Pilgrim vs Kazuma Sato
4. Kratos vs Asura
3. Composite Ryu vs Composite Goku
2. Naruto vs Luffy
1. Hulk vs Godzilla
True fact the announcement of Goku vs Superman alone. I decided to move Composite Ryu vs Composite Goku slightly higher than it originally was. I still have plenty of reasons why my two disliked matchups are higher than that by a long shot. I will say this though I'm starting to wonder who picks these matchups in the more recent seasons of their show?
I also wanna confirmed the top four matches are filled with toxicity. No body going to win end of the day a lot of people are going to be upset.. I do wish a lot of people reconsider some of their biggest requests. Some characters should get better matchups. Although some of them are incredibly strict in how they're done limiting their options in the long run.
I personally wanna throw out some awards regarding Tournament of Champions. Trust me, some of these I could see people doing as well. This is clearly for fun but I still would like to see other people do this. I will be giving out awards that should be rememberable in some way. I never said it was all good awards either lol.
Yes there were several matches that came close. Either being insanely powerful or simply being broken characters doing impossible things with ease. Ryu vs Goku would've crossed over more franchises than any other matchup in history. Not only that, the power scaling would be mind blowing. Ryu also being an power ranger no joke.
They also have to fully give both characters virtually everything. Including every non material stuff with both characters. The show already gave us a large chunk of that with Goku. Scaling with trying to fill in the gaps mostly for Ryu will be an challenge. Don't forget both of them are also in Fortnite. Which means they could be bringing in guns too.
I imagine Ryu possibly by close to Galactus level. On the other hand, Goku going to be truly insanely powerful. He might be too powerful for the multiverse maybe beyond that. They also got additional moves from several appearances as well. Which further adds up to how truly insane this matchup actually is.
Composite Ryu vs Composite Goku in every sense of the word ridiculous. It's a matchup that doesn't make sense anymore. They also reusing stuff from terrible versions. Let's be brutally honest, this episode alone is beyond what most possibly imagine. All the possible stuff both characters could be given makes it something you may never see ever again!!!
The lowest overall percentage in the entire voting process now that's pathetic!!!
It previously was an community fight before officially making it to Tournament of Champions. Also it was among the last matchups added making this an even bigger surprise.
I guess the Force is strong with this one!!! Technically through a weird loop hole Composite Ryu vs Composite Goku does as well. Star Wars also crossed over with Fortnite. Two of other matchups has an Star Wars character. If people allows Composite Ryu vs Composite Goku into that, Star Wars showed up three times.
There's so little regarding the matchup online in comparison to the other thirty one matchups. I will say I would like to see this matchup happen eventually.
By now, you already knew Week 3 had to win this. Two of these matchups kept getting tied for a few days. Also between two ridiculous matchups makes it even crazier.
Zeus dates back a few thousand years. Even throwing in Odin whose the closest to that, it's not even close.
Peacemaker is the most recent from a movie in 2021. He is newer than a handful of characters that came close.
These two are surprisingly realistic video game characters.
To clarify, this is determined by default height. It was very obvious Godzilla was going to win.
The Judge is around average cat height. Which is even shorter than Monokuma minus his army.
They likely composite the movies as well as the mini series with the book. Pennywise has more confirmed forms than anyone in Tournament of Champions.
In all honestly, even parts of Naruto vs Luffy is better than this. There's a lot of versions for both characters. Considering Hulk been on the show twice. We don't know if they have to fully composite both characters or not. If they go the full distance, you can expect a truly ridiculous episode. Personally, I already see plenty of ways it's falling apart.
People rather have new characters get on the show. Constantly bringing some of the old ones back gets old fast. Although for a good number of them I felt it was necessary. I still can't get my head around how unbalance of an matchup we got here. I'm not saying it's an stomp to clarify. There's a huge chance most of an universe going to be destroyed.
Even scaling this to their previous episodes. Sure there's still some stuff they could do with Godzilla. Unfortunately, they virtually maxed Hulk out. A lot of people loss interest in the character for future episodes. I slightly would watch this over Goku vs Superman 3. I do mean slight because I really don't wanna see that either.
A lot of people including myself were really surprised Sans vs The Judge won Week 8. Considering the other matchups in the same lineup that was rather impressive.
I really went out of my way to cover this further than anyone else. I felt I should be allowed to discuss the very matchup I submitted into Tournament of Champions. Not many people are doing that. Although some of them did make their own trailers, I did make my own as well. More recently, I got more reason to want my last remaining childhood dream fight to happen.
We got an possessed doll taking on an possessed dummy in a fight. They got a lot of major similarities. At the same time, they got some big differences as well. This year, Chucky show started it's season 3. A new Goosebumps show that has Slappy aired. There's also some related Goosebumps books. This year felt too perfect to not submit this matchup in.
This matchup meant so much to me as a kid. I compared a lot of characters especially these two. I also compared Venom vs Spawn, no longer an match I want. They previously done that as an DBX episode. Cartoon Fight Club already done Metal Mario vs Metal Sonic. One of my more unusual childhood dream fights.
I'm a huge fan of both these characters. Chucky coming to Dead by Daylight. Which is similar to a few appearances of Slappy commanding the other Goosebumps monsters. Not only that, the dialogue alone would be one of the very best horror episode wise. I still want this over Freddy vs Pennywise truthfully. Both are still way more interesting than Michael vs Jason.
Honestly, it would mean the world to me. The day Death Battle finally does this matchup. This has so much going for it, I'm still puzzled why it haven't happened yet. I already have confirmation, this is both characters' most requested matchup. This would even be better than Leprechaun vs Djinn. Another horror dream matchup I have.
Chucky is one of my personal favorite slasher villains. I'm a bigger fan of Freddy above all of them though. Slappy always been my favorite Goosebumps villain. This guy is great at manipulation as well as some of the scary stuff he could do within his stories. I could even argue Slappy may be actually scarier than Chucky as difficult it might be for some to believe.
Here is my submission trailer for Chucky vs Slappy down below...
This is notably better than last year's two Champion polls they done. Yes a lot more chances to vote is nice. But making the voting period an week each kinda makes people a little repetitive after awhile. The majority of matchups I say are mostly decent. This actually felt like an true tournament people wanna see play out.
I don't think they would consider doing something like this again. I would be very surprise otherwise. The Death Battle community came together to decide which matchup happens next season. In all honestly, this turned out to be something truly beautiful at it's core. Suddenly, every single one of us matters.
Over thirty matchups submitted in by champion members. I really wish to know their random selection method. Some of these lineups were truly amazing stuff. They really out done themselves with this. Death Battle should've done this years ago. I'm kinda glad they are finally doing it. There's plenty of matchups people really wanna see.
I'm sure once maybe twice, some of you looked at some of these lineups. All of a sudden you became emotional. Not because you are sad but you're truly happy. One or more of your biggest dream fights gets a chance at happening in the next season of their show. I will be honest, that's exactly how I felt with Homer vs Peter.
I do have some major criticisms. They allowed Kratos vs Asura that previously loss an champion poll last year in. To me, that's not fair it's given an second chance when majority of them only had one. I do wish swapping votes wasn't allowed. Swapping dramatically affected the entire voting process. I never swap a single vote, I sticked with every vote I casted.
Some rounds people were so quick to jump ship. I do consider swapping votes cheating. You originally voted for one of the losing matchups. Then they can easily swap to the winning matches isn't right!!! I hope if they do this again, swapping gets removed. More than that, I would like an penalty for swapping to be done for fairness reasons.
More recently Goku already had an matchup in the current season. Why didn't they exclude any of his matchups that were submitted into Tournament of Champions. Simply out of fairness alone is truly mind blowing to me. I don't mind they talked about two matchups that ended up in Tournament of Champions.
Obviously that's incredibly different. We get more of an idea how both those matchups are viewed by the DB team. Sadly, Goku vs Superman 3 would've hurt Composite Ryu vs Composite Goku chances. If it had moved on from round 1 lineup. I don't even it would do well in the Semi Finals either. All of a sudden that Goku hype train crashed badly over that one announcement.
Indirectly, they are making Goku an cheater. An Saiyan who rather fight people on equal footing dislikes cheating. So in an way, Death Battle you are disgracing one of the most beloved anime characters. For the love of Grand Zenos, stop using Goku already!!! I think we had enough Goku on the show it's time to let him rest.
Tournament of Champions is something that meant surprisingly so much to us. We really want more matches to happen. Hell a handful of these matchups could make up a great season or more for the show. I'm thankfully to take part in something like this. I stayed true to my very guidelines right up to the end.
