I Am Your Beast (2025)
This is an indie fast pace FPS game. You play as a man with skills further confirm later on he was the best among them. A lot of the story centers on two major plot points. Your former employer an general kept trying to get Alphonse to take one more job. Of course, he kept declining while staying out in a forest. As expected the general kept doing whatever he could.
Eventually he decides you are better dead than alive. I won't spoil how the game ends but I didn't expect this outcome. The other plot point is an ally among the enemies giving you intel. You actually get to meet him in the most peaceful level of the entire game. You don't even get to kill anyone either. It's a purely story driven section of the game.
I also won't spoil what happens to that guy. I will say he's among my favorite characters behind Alphonse. When I hear that name I often think of Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist. Yeah just imagined this possessed armor attacking soldiers lol. Virtually every mission takes place in the same forest. I know what some of us might be thinking.
Just imagine if John Rambo kept declining Colonel Trautman's offers for jobs. Maybe we could've ended up with an Rambo movie like this. There's a notable thing I can't help shake off. Parts of the game felt a bit similar to Mullet Madjack. I never was going to label this as a rip off by any means. I do wanna explain why I felt that way though.
In both those games you gotta move fast adapting to situations on the fly. You could do a lot of similar stuff to enemies. Going by Steam release dates from last year. Mullet Madjack gotten release first by four months. On most platforms Mullet Madjack gotten released first including Game Pass. Unlike Mullet Madjack, you don't have aspects of an Rogue like game.
It's actually somewhat a bit more realistic. Oh okay you can survive long falls except down pits. You constantly got to pick up stuff. Weapons like traps or rocket launchers all share the same slot. But you can only take one at a time. To be fair, those are among my favorite weapons. There's a good variety of weapons including melee.
Even throwing weapons at enemies was strikingly similar. Yes I checked both were developed by different teams altogether. Neither sharing the same company either. I still prefer using melee weapons in Mullet Madjack more. You also don't get any actual power ups unlike Mullet Madjack. It's still satisfying to throw your weapons knocking down or killing enemies from longer distances.
You even could take a little longer by punching em out. But why do that if you could easily kick em then kill em with the same button? There's a little gore but not the kind that upsets people. You still could blow people's heads off. Literately giving a new meaning to blow their minds!!! The audio as a whole I strongly felt was one of the strongest aspects.
The music just gets you into playing the game more. The sound effects are quite amazing with rather interesting voice overs. You get cutscenes with voice overs but that's all you get. You mostly see these imagines of the forest moving in closer. Sometimes the texts changes color you might not notice though. I love how cocky some of these enemy soldiers are.
I felt most of my favorite voice overs are split between these cutscenes as well as from enemies within the levels. In that regard, it kept reminding me of UnMetal. In a few major ways it's similar to that. What triggers all this madness is a few soldiers killed a bird I'm not kidding. Alphonse gets upset to take em out.
It's meant to be a bit mess up but also as a joke. Some of the enemies' accuracy especially snipers is god like. Yes there's only one real boss fight in the entire game. As difficult of a pill to accept it's true. You get to face an helicopter with only rockets damaging it. All of a sudden I'm reminded of Duke Nukem Forever.
Almost every boss within two campaigns of that can only be harm by explosives. Then again it's an attack helicopter with a lot of enemy soldiers on the ground. I will try to explain roughly which types of levels you play. I will be saving my personal favorite for last. You get destroy satellites don't worry you don't go up in space.
Satellites are these smaller machines for their intel. You also gotta quickly make it to the hatch. Actually among my least favorites especially forced Bleeding condition ones. Kill all the enemies easily my second favorite by far. My personal favorite as surprisingly it may be is Surviving waves of enemies. Sorta like Resident Evil's The Mercenaries but done a bit differently.
You can't add time since those are point based levels. Which I recommend going for an S rank to unlock the last story missions. There's a set number of enemies that differs. The last of these actually the last level you get to play. I knew very early on playing that level it's going to end up as my favorite level. Yes I still think it is indeed.
Surviving waves of enemies has possibly the most set number of enemies in the entire game. Some levels enemies just keeps on coming. To end majority of them you do the objectives. Then escape through hatches it's as straight forward as it sounds. They made S ranks in most of the levels so little time to get em.
Suddenly I'm reminding of going for Gold in The Gentleman within Swords & Souls Legacy Collection. Yes it's roughly similar little amount of times you gotta finish em in. There's a few other modes I didn't play at this time. I'm sure I may enjoy em to a degree when I do. I didn't expect to have so much fun trying to beat this.
Yes it quickly becomes rather repetitive. But not the kind of repetitiveness that turns me off from playing em. You can tell they expect people to quickly get their game down. Snipers can be quite frustrating simply due to their placements. I gotta mention my new favorite usage of a beartrap within an video game.
You could place em on the ground giving you points. But the actual method I love using was throwing em at enemies. The animations all tie in to this is wow I wasn't expecting that!!! They are quite easy to use with that method. Plus I can quickly fire or swing my weapons afterwards. I hope you like a snowy forest because that's all you're getting with this game.
I know some won't like that because they felt the developers being lazy. Easily altering things to make it seem differently. A lot of games uses mostly one location for entire campaigns it's not a new concept. I will confess it's quite easy to die in this. There are some options to help your changes within the levels. Unfortunately activating any of those in particular prevents you from getting S ranks.
By the way, yes the game directly tells you this within the settings. We are talking taking less damage to the timer moving slower to auto aim. It's among the easiest head shotting FPS games I ever played!!! No I didn't use those options during my 1st playthrough. I did use always sprinting since it helps a lot in those style of games.
You also could do bonus objectives to spice things up. Some of which you gotta do to unlock more story missions. No you don't get any upgrades at all. There's twenty six levels despite it stating twenty seven of them. The last one is the final cutscene section with ending. I also felt the length of the levels may differ a little bit.
None of them truly over stayed their welcome. Some are just trickier to finish than others. All of this happening within a single day according to the story. I'm amazed Alphonse can still stand after everything. The controls are absolutely perfect for this. I Am Your Beast is a huge recommendation to play I loved the game a lot.
